²⁸ And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

⁴⁹ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. ⁵⁰ But Jesus said unto him, Forbid [him] not: for he that is not against you is for you. ⁵¹ And it came to pass, when the days were well-nigh come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, ⁵² and sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. ⁵³ And they did not receive him, because his face was [as though he were] going to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them?

³ For I verily, being absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as though I were present, judged him that hath so wrought this thing, ⁴ in the name of our Lord Jesus, ye being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, ⁵ to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? ⁷ Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our passover also hath been sacrificed, [even] Christ:

⁶ Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was [inflicted] by the many; ⁷ so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow. ⁸ Wherefore I beseech you to confirm [your] love toward him. ⁹ For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things. ¹⁰ But to whom ye forgive anything, I [forgive] also: for what I also have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes [have I forgiven it] in the person of Christ; ¹¹ that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

¹⁴ And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.

²² And on some have mercy, who are in doubt; ²³ and some save, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
