¹ So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. ² Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God. ³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job. ⁴ Now Elihu had waited to speak unto Job, because they were elder than he. ⁵ And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled. ⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I held back, and durst not shew you mine opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty giveth them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged that understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say. ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none that convinced Job, or that answered his words, among you. ¹³ Beware lest ye say, We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not man: ¹⁴ For he hath not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your speeches. ¹⁵ They are amazed, they answer no more: they have not a word to say. ¹⁶ And shall I wait, because they speak not, because they stand still, and answer no more? ¹⁷ I also will answer my part, I also will shew mine opinion. ¹⁸ For I am full of words; the spirit within me constraineth me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; like new bottles it is ready to burst. ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be refreshed; I will open my lips and answer. ²¹ Let me not, I pray you, respect any man’s person; neither will I give flattering titles unto any man. ²² For I know not to give flattering titles; [else] would my Maker soon take me away.

²⁹ Return, I pray you, let there be no injustice; yea, return again, my cause is righteous.

² I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.

⁷ Although thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand?

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet will I wait for him: nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.

⁷ There the upright might reason with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

⁴ Surely my lips shall not speak unrighteousness, neither shall my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me. ⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach [me] so long as I live.

¹¹ For when the ear heard [me], then it blessed me; and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness unto me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy: and the cause of him that I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I brake the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹ I MADE a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid? ² For what [is] the portion of God from above, and the heritage of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with vanity, and my foot hath hasted to deceit; ⁶ (Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity;) ⁷ If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any spot hath cleaved to mine hands: ⁸ Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out. ⁹ If mine heart have been enticed unto a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door: ¹⁰ Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her. ¹¹ For that were an heinous crime; yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges: ¹² For it is a fire that consumeth unto Destruction, and would root out all mine increase. ¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me: ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have been her guide from my mother’s womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate: ²² Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I could do nothing. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence; ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much; ²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; ²⁷ And my heart hath been secretly enticed, and my mouth hath kissed my hand: ²⁸ This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges: for I should have lied to God that is above. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him; ³⁰ (Yea, I suffered not my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse;) ³¹ If the men of my tent said not, Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his flesh? ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street; but I opened my doors to the traveller; ³³ If like Adam I covered my transgressions, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom; ³⁴ Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door— ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! (lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me;) and [that I had] the indictment which mine adversary hath written! ³⁶ Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown. ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him. ³⁸ If my land cry out against me, and the furrows thereof weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life: ⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

⁹ I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me:

²¹ Uz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram;

³ Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

² As God liveth, who hath taken away my right; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;

⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me.

²¹ Thou art turned to be cruel to me: with the might of thy hand thou persecutest me.

⁵ For Job hath said, I am righteous, and God hath taken away my right: ⁶ Notwithstanding my right I am [accounted] a liar; my wound is incurable, [though I am] without transgression.

¹⁷ Shall even one that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is just [and] mighty? ¹⁸ Is it [fit] to say to a king, [Thou art] vile? [or] to nobles, [Ye are] wicked?

² Thinkest thou this to be [thy] right, [or] sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God’s,

⁸ Wilt thou even disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

⁹ For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.

⁵ And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored.

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

⁶ If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

³⁴ For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

⁵ Is not thy wickedness great? neither is there any end to thine iniquities. ⁶ For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man, he dwelt in it. ⁹ Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee, ¹¹ Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee. ¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou sayest, What doth God know? can he judge through the thick darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Wilt thou keep the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream: ¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us; and, What can the Almighty do for us? ¹⁸ Yet he fired their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad; and the innocent laugh them to scorn: ²⁰ [Saying], Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off, and the remnant of them the fire hath consumed. ²¹ Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. ²³ If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up; if thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents. ²⁴ And lay thou [thy] treasure in the dust, and [the gold of] Ophir among the stones of the brooks; ²⁵ And the Almighty shall be thy treasure, and precious silver unto thee. ²⁶ For then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee; and thou shalt pay thy vows. ²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and light shall shine upon thy ways. ²⁹ When they cast [thee] down, thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; and the humble person he shall save. ³⁰ He shall deliver [even] him that is not innocent: yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thine hands.

²⁵ And if it be not so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?

² Dominion and fear are with him; he maketh peace in his high places. ³ Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise? ⁴ How then can man be just with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? ⁵ Behold, even the moon hath no brightness, and the stars are not pure in his sight: ⁶ How much less man, that is a worm! and the son of man, which is a worm!

² How hast thou helped him that is without power! how hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength! ³ How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge! ⁴ To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came forth from thee?

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

¹³ Neither can they prove to thee the things whereof they now accuse me.

¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say. ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none that convinced Job, or that answered his words, among you.

¹³ He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

¹⁹ And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

³² Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? ³⁰ And he turned away from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

⁷ Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou brought forth before the hills?

¹⁰ With us are both the grayheaded and the very aged men, much elder than thy father.

⁷ Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

¹ Rebuke not an elder, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brethren:

⁶ the younger men likewise exhort to be soberminded:

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁶ And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? ⁷ And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever. ⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.

⁸ For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and apply thyself to that which their fathers have searched out: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) ¹⁰ Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

¹² With aged men is wisdom, and in length of days understanding.

¹¹ Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. ¹² What man is he that desireth life, and loveth [many] days, that he may see good?

¹ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: ² To know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding; ³ To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness and judgment and equity; ⁴ To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion:

³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, it shall be found in the way of righteousness.

¹² For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou:

¹² behold, I have done according to thy word: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

²⁹ And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

¹² Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof. ¹³ In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, ¹⁴ Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. ¹⁵ Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up. ¹⁶ It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes: [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying], ¹⁷ Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his Maker? ¹⁸ Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; and his angels he chargeth with folly: ¹⁹ How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth! ²⁰ Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: they perish for ever without any regarding it. ²¹ Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? they die, and that without wisdom.

⁴ The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.

¹⁶ Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

¹¹ Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

³⁶ Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the mind?

⁶ For the LORD giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding:

²⁶ For to the man that pleaseth him [God] giveth wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that pleaseth God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

¹⁷ Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

²¹ And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

¹⁰ But unto us God revealed [them] through the Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who among men knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the things of God none knoweth, save the Spirit of God. ¹² But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God.

⁸ For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit:

¹⁶ Every scripture inspired of God [is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness:

⁵ But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

²⁰ He removeth the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the elders.

¹³ Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth not how to receive admonition any more.

⁵ I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God. But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bands.

²⁵ At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:

⁴⁸ Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

²⁶ For behold your calling, brethren, how that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, [are called]: ²⁷ but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;

⁷ but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, [even] the [wisdom] that hath been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory: ⁸ which none of the rulers of this world knoweth: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory:

⁶ But ye have dishonoured the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme the honourable name by the which ye are called?

²⁵ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

²⁷ Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

²¹ Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

⁴ Now Elihu had waited to speak unto Job, because they were elder than he.

¹⁷ He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

⁹ And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, [and] set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written uprightly, [even] words of truth.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.

²³ that I will not take a thread nor a shoelatchet nor aught that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

² And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

²¹ and he said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger are they consumed.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof my spirit drinketh up: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

² No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

⁸ Hast thou heard the secret counsel of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself? ⁹ What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us? ¹⁰ With us are both the grayheaded and the very aged men, much elder than thy father.

⁶ Know now that God hath subverted me [in my cause], and hath compassed me with his net.

²¹ Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

²¹ Woe unto them that are wise their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

⁵ therefore I have declared it to thee from of old; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.

⁷ They are created now, and not from of old; and before this day thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.

²³ Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

³ behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

⁷ The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem be not magnified above Judah.

¹¹ Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the prudence of the prudent will I reject. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? ²¹ For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.

²⁷ but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; ²⁸ and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, [yea] and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are: ²⁹ that no flesh should glory before God.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinketh that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred. ²⁵ How forcible are words of uprightness! but what doth your arguing reprove?

²² After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²² And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went their way.

²⁶ in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

³⁴ But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁵ Oh that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

²⁸ Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: when he shutteth his lips, he is [esteemed as] prudent.

¹³ Therefore he that is prudent shall keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time.

¹⁹ Ye know [this], my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

¹² Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just; for God is greater than man.

³ That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? [and], What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned? ⁴ I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

³ My heart was hot within me; while I was musing the fire kindled: [then] spake I with my tongue:

⁹ And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in mine heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot [contain].

¹⁴ So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away: and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of the LORD was strong upon me. ¹⁵ Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river Chebar, and to where they dwelt; and I sat there astonied among them seven days. ¹⁶ And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ¹⁷ Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. ¹⁸ When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood wilt I require at thine hand. ¹⁹ Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. ²⁰ Again, when a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. ²¹ Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning; and thou hast delivered thy soul. ²² And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee. ²³ Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river Chebar: and I fell on my face. ²⁴ Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet; and he spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house. ²⁵ But thou, son of man, behold, they shall lay bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: ²⁶ and I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house. ²⁷ But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD: He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.

²⁰ for we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard.

¹³ For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you. ¹⁴ For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;

¹⁷ Neither do [men] put new wine into old wineskins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what wilt.

¹⁹ Who is he that will contend with me? for now shall I hold my peace and give up the ghost.

² Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.

³ Suffer me, and I also will speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall utter truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons: neither shalt thou take a gift; for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

¹⁷ Then thine handmaid said, Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: and the LORD thy God be with thee.

²⁰ to change the face of the matter hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

⁸ Will ye respect his person? will ye contend for God?

¹⁰ He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly respect persons.

¹⁹ [How much less to] him that respecteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

²³ These also are [sayings] of the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.

¹⁶ And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men.

²² And the people shouted, [saying], The voice of a god, and not of a man. ²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

² And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy much peace, and that by thy providence evils are corrected for this nation, ³ we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

⁵ He that denounceth his friends for a prey, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

² They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak. ³ The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh great things:

⁵ A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.

¹⁰ For am I now persuading men, or God? or am I seeking to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ.

⁵ For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness, God is witness;
