²⁵ neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

²² And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

¹⁶ Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

² Can a man be profitable unto God? surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself.

³ (For my life is yet whole in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;)

⁴ The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.

¹⁴ If he set his heart upon man, [if] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

⁶ If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against him? and if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him. ⁷ If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

² I have said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: I have no good beyond thee.

⁸ I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices; and thy burnt offerings are continually before me. ⁹ I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he-goats out of thy folds. ¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. ¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. ¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

²⁷ These wait all upon thee, that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. ²⁸ That thou givest unto them they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are satisfied with good. ²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their breath they die, and return to their dust. ³⁰ Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the ground.

⁵ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

²⁰ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. ²¹ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat ye flesh. ²² For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: ²³ but this thing I commanded them, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies. ²² Yea, though ye offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. ²³ Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

¹ The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. [Thus] saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him:

⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

¹³ But go ye and learn what [this] meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

¹⁷ And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

²⁸ for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

³⁵ or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
