¹ And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD [dwelleth] under curtains. ² And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee. ³ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, ⁴ Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: ⁵ for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from [one] tabernacle [to another]. ⁶ In all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedar? ⁷ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel: ⁸ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. ⁹ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first, ¹⁰ and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house. ¹¹ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² He shall build me an house, and I will establish his throne for ever. ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: ¹⁴ but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁵ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David. ¹⁶ Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? ¹⁷ And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. ¹⁸ What can David [say] yet more unto thee concerning the honour which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. ¹⁹ O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all [these] great things. ²⁰ O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ²¹ And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, which thou redeemedst out of Egypt? ²² For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. ²³ And now, O LORD, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken. ²⁴ And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee. ²⁵ For thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore hath thy servant found [in his heart] to pray before thee. ²⁶ And now, O LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant: ²⁷ and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O LORD, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.

¹⁹ And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses. ²⁰ And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark: ²¹ and he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹⁷ And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

¹ And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies round about, ² that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. ³ And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee. ⁴ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, ⁵ Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in? ⁶ for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. ⁷ In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedar? ⁸ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel: ⁹ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. ¹⁰ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, ¹¹ and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover the LORD telleth thee that the LORD will make thee an house. ¹² When thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; ¹⁵ but my mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. ¹⁶ And thine house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David. ¹⁸ Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? ¹⁹ And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of men, O Lord GOD! ²⁰ And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord GOD. ²¹ For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it. ²² Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ²³ And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee out of Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods? ²⁴ And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. ²⁵ And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken. ²⁶ And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is God over Israel: and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee. ²⁷ For thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. ²⁸ And now, O Lord GOD, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good thing unto thy servant: ²⁹ now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

¹ And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

²⁵ and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he called his name Jedidiah, for the LORD’S sake.

⁸ But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

²³ And they told the king, saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

⁴⁴ and the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule:

¹ And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him an house.

¹ And [David] made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

¹ And they brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

⁵ for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from [one] tabernacle [to another].

²⁹ Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer;

⁴ But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to [the place] that David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

⁷ Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. ⁸ But the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart: ⁹ nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

⁵ Until I find out a place for the LORD, a tabernacle for the Mighty One of Jacob.

¹⁵ Shalt thou reign, because thou strivest to excel in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice? then it was well with him.

⁴ I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace.

²⁹ At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon. ³⁰ The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

⁴ Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your cieled houses, while this house lieth waste?

⁹ Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house.

⁴⁶ who found favour in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

¹⁴ And the men took of their provision, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.

⁷ And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

⁷ But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

³ And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.

⁷ And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God.

² Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: as for me, it was in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.

⁴ Grant thee thy heart’s desire, and fulfill all thy counsel.

²³ Thus saith the LORD of hosts: In those days [it shall come to pass], that ten men shall take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, shall even take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

²⁸ And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part:

⁶ And he said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream.

¹ In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. ² Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, ³ Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. ⁴ And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle part of the city, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ⁵ Turn again, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

²¹ and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand and when e turn to the left.

⁷ Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

⁴ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, ⁵ Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

¹⁹ nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

⁷ And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God. ⁸ But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight:

² Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: as for me, it was in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building. ³ But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.

⁸ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! ³⁴ For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

² On the first day of the first month shalt thou rear up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. ³ And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and thou shalt screen the ark with the veil.

⁶ for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

⁴ And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these did the priests and the Levites bring up.

¹⁶ Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

²⁷ But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded!

⁶ But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn incense before him?

¹⁸ But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have builded!

¹ Thus saith the LORD; The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: what manner of house will ye build unto me? and what place shall be my rest? ² For all these things hath mine hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.

⁴⁴ Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he appointed who spake unto Moses, that he should make it according to the figure that he had seen. ⁴⁵ Which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered on the possession of the nations, which God thrust out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; ⁴⁶ who found favour in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob. ⁴⁷ But Solomon built him a house. ⁴⁸ Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in [houses] made with hands; as saith the prophet, ⁴⁹ The heaven is my throne, And the earth the footstool of my feet: What manner of house will ye build me? saith the Lord: Or what is the place of my rest? ⁵⁰ Did not my hand make all these things?

¹⁴ And he said, My presence shall go [with thee], and I will give thee rest. ¹⁵ And he said unto him, If thy presence go not [with me], carry us not up hence.

³⁵ And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. ³⁶ And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys: ³⁷ but if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. ³⁸ For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and there was fire therein by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. ¹² And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

³³ And they set forward from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them. ³⁴ And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. ³⁵ And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, O LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee. ³⁶ And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.

¹⁴ for the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.

¹⁶ And the LORD raised up judges, which saved them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. ¹⁷ And yet they hearkened not unto their judges, for they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves down unto them: they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of the LORD; [but] they did not so. ¹⁸ And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

¹¹ And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled in safety.

⁷ In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedar?

² In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over my people Israel.

⁷¹ From following the ewes that give suck he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

⁴ And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking, saith the LORD.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, even to the shepherds, Thus saith the Lord GOD: Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the sheep?

⁴ And he shall stand, and shall feed [his flock] in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God: and they shall abide; for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

⁶ And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Which shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

²⁰ and after these things he gave [them] judges until Samuel the prophet.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹ To the angel of the church in Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, he that walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks:

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb. ² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. ⁵ And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. ⁷ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; ⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. ⁹ And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. ¹⁰ Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

¹¹ And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. ¹² And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

¹⁵ Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Beth-lehem.

²¹ And David said unto Michal, [It was] before the LORD, which chose me above thy father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.

⁸ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel:

⁷⁰ He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: ⁷¹ From following the ewes that give suck he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

¹⁴ Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a dresser of sycomore trees: ¹⁵ and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

¹⁸ And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. ¹⁹ And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. ²¹ And going on from thence he saw other two brethren, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. ²² And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

¹⁰ and so were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹⁵ And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

¹⁴ And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

²⁸ And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David; and Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.

¹⁰ And David said, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle, and perish.

¹ Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. ² And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. ³ And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers. ⁴ Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it. ⁵ And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died with him. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

⁹ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

⁶ Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought presents. And the LORD gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

⁸ And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

¹³ And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men. ¹⁴ And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the LORD gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

¹ And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

³⁸ I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; neither did I turn again till they were consumed. ³⁹ And I have consumed them, and smitten them through, that they cannot arise; yea, they are fallen under my feet. ⁴⁰ For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. ⁴¹ Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, that I might cut off them that hate me.

² And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

¹⁷ And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all [the country] beyond the river; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid unto them.

¹³ And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: ¹⁴ and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field, all their service, wherein they made them serve with rigour.

²³ And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

² Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand, and plantedst them in; thou didst afflict the peoples, and didst spread them abroad.

²² The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

¹³ They that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

⁶ For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

³ The LORD appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. ⁴ Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry. ⁵ Again shalt thou plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy [the fruit thereof]. ⁶ For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God. ⁷ For thus saith the LORD, Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. ⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, [and] with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall they return hither. ⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. ¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off; and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. ¹¹ For the LORD hath ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. ¹² And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together unto the goodness of the LORD, to the corn, and to the wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

⁴¹ Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

⁴ by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:

¹³ And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them upon the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited places of the country.

¹⁴ therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nation any more, saith the Lord GOD; ¹⁵ neither will I let thee hear any more the shame of the heathen, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the peoples any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nation to stumble any more, saith the Lord GOD.

²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, for ever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever.

¹⁵ And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.

² wherein aforetime ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—

⁶ Let no man deceive you with empty words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience.

⁴ and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away.

²¹ And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. ¹⁵ Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had spoken, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were sore distressed.

⁸ Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.

³ And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east; they came up against them; ⁴ and they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance in Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. ⁵ For they came up with their cattle and their tents, they came in as locusts for multitude; both they and their camels were without number: and they came into the land to destroy it. ⁶ And Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

⁵ And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven. ⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in holds, and in pits.

¹⁹ Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears: ²⁰ but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;

¹¹ and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover the LORD telleth thee that the LORD will make thee an house.

⁴⁰ Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, that I might cut off them that hate me. ⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. ⁴² Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the mire of the streets. ⁴³ Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; thou hast made me the head of the nations: a people whom I have not known shall serve me. ⁴⁴ As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me. ⁴⁵ The strangers shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their close places. ⁴⁶ The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation: ⁴⁷ Even the God that executeth vengeance for me, and subdueth peoples under me. ⁴⁸ He rescueth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me: thou deliverest me from the violent man. ⁴⁹ Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the nations, and will sing praises unto thy name. ⁵⁰ Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth lovingkindness to his anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore.

⁸ Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. ⁹ Thou shalt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger. The LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

²³ And I will beat down his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD saith unto my lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

¹ A Song of Ascents; of Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

²⁵ For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.

¹⁵ But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

¹⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

¹² When thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

²⁴ And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the LORD loved him; ²⁵ and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he called his name Jedidiah, for the LORD’S sake.

²¹ Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

¹⁰ And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

²⁰ And the LORD hath established his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.

²⁸ And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

¹¹ The LORD hath sworn unto David in truth; he will not turn from it: of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute judgment and justice in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The LORD is our righteousness.

²⁹ Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.

³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead; [even] Jesus Christ our Lord,

⁵ And, behold, I purpose to build an house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for my name.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days: ¹⁰ he shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

⁶ And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. ⁷ And I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day. ⁸ Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you for ever. ⁹ And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ¹⁰ Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

¹ Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where [the LORD] appeared unto David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. ² And he began to build in the second [day] of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign. ³ Now these are the foundations which Solomon laid for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits. ⁴ And the porch that was before [the house], the length of it, according to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

¹¹ And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and finished.

⁴ Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah

²⁹ His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established for ever as the moon, and [as] the faithful witness in the sky. Selah

⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with judgment and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall perform this.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

¹² and speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold, the man whose name is the Branch; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: ¹³ even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. ²⁰ The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days? ²¹ But he spake of the temple of his body.

⁴⁷ But Solomon built him a house. ⁴⁸ Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in [houses] made with hands; as saith the prophet,

⁹ for in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said, The kingdom of the world is become [the kingdom] of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; ¹⁵ but my mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. ¹⁶ And thine house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

¹² Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father’s sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. ¹³ Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.

³⁶ And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a lamp alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.

¹⁴ and inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee.

¹² Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

²⁶ He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. ²⁷ I also will make him [my] firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. ²⁸ My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. ²⁹ His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; ³¹ If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; ³² Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ But my mercy will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴ My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ Once have I sworn by my holiness; I will not lie unto David;

³ Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

¹⁸ And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

⁵ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee? and again, I will be to him a Father, And he shall be to me a Son?

⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him happy.

³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: ³³ and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

⁶ but Christ as a son, over his house; whose house are we, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope firm unto the end.

¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

²⁸ The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith the LORD.

²⁷ For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two companies.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which hath fed me all my life long unto this day, ¹⁶ the angel which hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

¹⁵ And he said unto him, Oh Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

¹² Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

²¹ And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou to me after this manner?

¹⁸ Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

³ LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him? or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?

²² Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come;

¹⁰ who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

¹⁹ And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of men, O Lord GOD!

⁸ and I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added unto thee such and such things.

¹³ And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour, so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee, all thy days.

¹⁸ And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.

⁷ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel: ⁸ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² He shall build me an house, and I will establish his throne for ever. ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: ¹⁴ but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for ever. ¹⁵ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

¹⁹ Then thou spakest in vision to thy saints, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. ²⁰ I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: ²¹ With whom my hand shall be established; mine arm also shall strengthen him. ²² The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. ²³ And I will beat down his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him. ²⁴ But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him; and in my name shall his horn be exalted. ²⁵ I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.

⁶ yea, he saith, It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

²⁰ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient [even] unto death, yea, the death of the cross. ⁹ Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; ¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven and [things] on earth and [things] under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

³⁰ Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

²⁰ And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord GOD. ²¹ For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it. ²² Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ²³ And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee out of Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods? ²⁴ And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

¹⁷ He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

²¹ For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it.

¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth [is thine]; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. ¹² Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou rulest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

³ His work is honour and majesty: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

⁶ He hath shewed his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

¹ Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

³ and he said unto me, Thou art my servant; Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

⁵ And now saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered unto him: (for I am honourable in the eyes of the LORD, and my God is become my strength:) ⁶ yea, he saith, It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord’s sake.

²⁶ yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

⁹ having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him ¹⁰ unto a dispensation of the fulness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth; in him, [I say], ¹¹ in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his will;

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: yea, in the thing wherein they dealt proudly against them.

²⁴ O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy strong hand: for what god is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy mighty acts?

³⁵ Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.

³⁹ Know therefore this day, and lay it to thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

²⁶ There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heaven for thy help, And in his excellency on the skies.

² There is none holy as the LORD; for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

³ Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done.

⁸ There is none like unto thee among the gods, O Lord; neither [are there any works] like unto thy works.

⁶ For who in the skies can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty is like unto the LORD,

⁸ O LORD God of hosts, who is a mighty one, like unto thee, O JAH? and thy faithfulness is round about thee.

¹⁸ To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

²⁵ To whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal [to him]? saith the Holy One.

¹⁰ Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he; before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD, the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

⁵ I am the LORD, and there is none else; beside me there is no God: I will gird thee, though thou hast not known me:

²² Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

¹² that caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses? that divided the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?

⁶ There is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. ⁷ Who would not fear thee, O King of the nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like unto thee.

⁷ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; ⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

⁴ Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. ⁵ Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: ⁶ and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

⁷ For what great nation is there, that hath a god so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is whensoever we call upon him?

³² For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been [any such thing] as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? ³³ Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live? ³⁴ Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

¹ When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before thee, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; ² and when the LORD thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

¹⁵ And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing today.

²⁶ There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heaven for thy help, And in his excellency on the skies. ²⁷ The eternal God is [thy] dwelling place, And underneath are the everlasting arms: And he thrust out the enemy from before thee, And said, Destroy. ²⁸ And Israel dwelleth in safety, The fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of corn and wine; Yea, his heavens drop down dew. ²⁹ Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, a people saved by the LORD, The shield of thy help, And that is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall submit themselves unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places.

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

⁴³ So the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. ⁴⁴ And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. ⁴⁵ There failed not aught of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

¹¹ And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand. ¹² And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

¹⁰ and shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land; for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them; and didst get thee a name, as it is this day.

² Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand, and plantedst them in; thou didst afflict the peoples, and didst spread them abroad. ³ For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

⁵ By terrible things thou wilt answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation; thou that art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

³ Say unto God, How terrible are thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee. ⁴ All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah ⁵ Come, and see the works of God; [he is] terrible in his doing toward the children of men. ⁶ He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the river on foot: there did we rejoice in him. ⁷ He ruleth by his might for ever; his eyes observe the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. ¹⁵ Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

² Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary;

⁹ He hath sent redemption unto his people; he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

³ The sea saw it, and fled; Jordan was driven back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like young sheep. ⁵ What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleest? thou Jordan, that thou turnest back? ⁶ Ye mountains, that ye skip like rams; ye little hills, like young sheep? ⁷ Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; ⁸ Which turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

²⁰ He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

⁹ For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

³ When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

⁹ But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.

⁶ For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth. ⁷ The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all peoples: ⁸ but because the LORD loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

¹⁸ and the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be a peculiar people unto himself, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; ¹⁹ and to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

²² For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you a people unto himself.

³¹ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: ³² not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD. ³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the LORD; I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: ³⁴ and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

⁴ who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises; ⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. ⁶ But [it is] not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

²⁵ As he saith also in Hosea, I will call that my people, which was not my people; And her beloved, which was not beloved. ²⁶ And it shall be, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, There shall they be called sons of the living God.

¹ I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God did not cast off his people which he foreknew. Or wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he pleadeth with God against Israel, ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have digged down thine altars: and I am left alone, and they seek my life. ⁴ But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have left for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. ⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. ⁷ What then? That which Israel seeketh for, that he obtained not; but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened: ⁸ according as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this very day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, And a stumblingblock, and a recompense unto them: ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, And bow thou down their back alway. ¹¹ I say then, Did they stumble that they might fall? God forbid: but by their fall salvation [is come] unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. ¹² Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God’s] own possession, that ye may shew forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹² And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

⁴⁹ Remember the word unto thy servant, because thou hast made me to hope.

⁵ that I may establish the oath which I sware unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, O LORD.

³⁸ And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

³³ then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built, is called by thy name.

¹³ Be thou exalted, O LORD, in thy strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever; and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen.

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

¹ At that time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

⁹ After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

¹³ And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil [one].

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, [saying], I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

¹ These things spake Jesus; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the Son may glorify thee:

¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, And on their heart also will I write them: And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people:

¹⁶ But now they desire a better [country], that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

¹¹ if any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

³ And I heard a great voice out of the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall dwell with them, and they shall be his peoples, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God:

¹⁵ Now the LORD had revealed unto Samuel a day before Saul came, saying,

¹⁷ LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the meek: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

³⁷ Thus saith the Lord GOD: For this moreover will I be inquired of by the house of Israel; to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.

¹⁴ And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, the LORD, a God full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy and truth; ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin: and that will by no means clear [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

² in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before times eternal;

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us;

³³ And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who then is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, [and] he shall be blessed.

²⁹ For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance.

³ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly [places] in Christ:
