² For if Abraham were justified by works, he has reason to glory in himself, but not before God.

¹² therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee that they shall say, This is his wife, and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. ¹³ Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

¹⁸ And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

²⁰ Then Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away and his wife with all that he had.

⁹ Then Abimelech called Abraham and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us and in what have I sinned against thee that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom such a great sin? Thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done. ¹⁰ And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What didst thou see that thou hast done this thing? ¹¹ And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wife’s sake. ¹² And yet indeed, she is also my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. ¹³ And it came to pass when God caused me to wander from my father’s house that I said unto her, This is the mercy which thou shalt show unto me: at every place where we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

² And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Long ago your fathers dwelt on the other side of the river, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nachor, and they served other gods.

²³ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands me and knows me, that I am the LORD who does mercy, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.

⁹ And he said unto me, Go in and see the wicked abominations that they do here.

²⁰ For by the deeds of the law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight; for by the law is the knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now, without the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets: ²² the righteousness, that is, of God by the faith of Jesus, the Christ, for all and upon all those that believe in him, for there is no difference; ²³ for all have sinned and are made destitute of the glory of God, ²⁴ being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Jesus, the Christ, ²⁵ whom God purposed for reconciliation through faith in his blood for the manifestation of his righteousness, for the remission of sins that are past, by the patience of God, ²⁶ manifesting in this time his righteousness that he only be the just one and the justifier of him that is of the faith of Jesus. ²⁷ Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? No, but by the law of faith. ²⁸ Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

¹⁷ ¶ Therefore I have something to boast of in Christ Jesus, with regard to God.

²⁹ that no flesh should glory in his presence.

³¹ that, according as it is written, He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

¹⁶ For though I preach the gospel, I have no reason to glory, for it is an obligation laid upon me; for woe is me, if I do not preach the gospel!

¹² ¶ For we do not commend ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf that ye may have something to answer those who glory in appearance, and not in heart.

¹² But what I do, I will continue to do that I may take away the occasion from those who desire it to be found like unto us in that in which they glory.

³⁰ If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern my weakness.

¹ ¶ Certainly it is not expedient for me to glory, but I will come to the visions and the revelations of the Lord. ² I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows) was caught up to the third heaven. ³ And I know such a man (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows) ⁴ who was caught up into paradise and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. ⁵ Of such a one I will glory, yet of myself I will not glory, except in my weaknesses. ⁶ Therefore if I should desire to glory in these things, I should not be a fool; for I would say the truth, but now I forbear lest anyone should think of me above that which he sees me to be or that he hears of me. ⁷ And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me above measure, there is given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. ⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might be taken from me. ⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

²² But the scripture has concluded all under sin that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to the believers.

¹³ For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law, but desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. ¹⁴ But in no wise should I glory, except in the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

⁹ ¶ and be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
