Psalms 44 Cross References - EJ2000

1 To the Overcomer
for the sons of Korah, Maschil.
¶ We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days in the times of old. 2 How thou didst drive out the Gentiles with thy hand and plant them in their place; how thou didst afflict the peoples and cast them out. 3 For they did not get the land in inheritance by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance because thy delight was in them. 4 Thou art my King, O God; command saving health unto Jacob. 5 Through thee will we push down our enemies; through thy name will we tread under those that rise up against us. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. 7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies and hast put to shame those that hated us. 8 In God we boast all the day long and praise thy name for ever. Selah. 9 ¶ But thou hast cast us off and put us to shame and doth not go forth with our armies. 10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy, and we are spoiled by those who hate us. 11 Thou hast given us over like sheep appointed for food and hast scattered us among the Gentiles. 12 Thou hast sold thy people for nothing and dost not increase thy wealth by their price. 13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to those that are round about us. 14 Thou makest us a byword among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the people. 15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face has covered me, 16 for the voice of him that reproaches and blasphemes by reason of the enemy and of the avenger. 17 ¶ All this is come upon us; yet we have not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. 18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way 19 though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons and covered us with the shadow of death. 20 If we have forgotten the name of our God or stretched out our hands to a strange god, 21 shall not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart. 22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. 23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, do not cast us off for ever. 24 Why dost thou hide thy face and forget our affliction and our oppression? 25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaves unto the earth. 26 Arise for our help and ransom us for thy mercies’ sake.

6 He has made me a byword of the peoples; and before them I have been as a tambourine.

Job 30:29

29 I have become a brother to dragons and a companion to owls.

Job 31:4

4 Does he not see my ways and count all my steps? 5 If I have walked with falsehood or if my foot has hastened to deceit, 6 let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know my integrity. 7 If my step has turned out of the way and my heart walked after my eyes and if any blot has cleaved to my hands, 8 then let me sow, and let another eat, and let my offspring be rooted out. 9 ¶ If my heart has been deceived regarding a woman, or if I have laid in wait at my neighbour’s door, 10 then let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her. 11 For this is lewdness and iniquity that is proven. 12 For it is a fire that consumes unto hell and would root out all my increase. 13 If I had despised the right of my manslave or of my maidslave, when they contended with me; 14 what then would I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what would I answer him?

Job 31:14

14 what then would I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what would I answer him? 15 Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb? 16 ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; 17 or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; 18 (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb) 19 if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; 20 if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; 21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw that they would all help me in the gate; 22 then let my back fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from its joint. 23 For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power. 24 ¶ If I have made gold my hope or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; 25 if I rejoiced because my wealth was being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much; 26 if I beheld the sun when it shone or the moon walking in beauty; 27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth kissed my hand; 28 this would also be a proven iniquity; for I should have denied the God that is sovereign. 29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of the one that hated me or lifted up myself when evil found him; 30 for I have never even suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse upon his soul; 31 when the servants of my tent said, Oh that we had of his flesh! We would never be satisfied. 32 The stranger did not lodge in the street, but I opened my doors to the traveller. 33 ¶ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom; 34 if I feared a great multitude or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door? 35 Oh that someone would hear me! Behold, my mark is, that the Almighty will testify for me, even though my adversary had written down the charges. 36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder and bind it as a crown to me. 37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince I would go near unto him. 38 If my land cries against me and all its furrows likewise complain; 39 if I ate of its strength without money or have afflicted the soul of its owners; 40 let thistles grow up unto me instead of wheat and stinkweed instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

Job 34:21-22

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. 22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

1 To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me. 2 Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up, thou dost understand my thoughts from afar. 3 Thou hast girded my walk and my rest, and hast prepared all my ways. 4 For the word is not even upon my tongue, and, behold, O LORD, thou dost know it altogether. 5 Thou hast formed my face and my insides and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Thy knowledge is wonderful beyond my ability to comprehend; it is high, I cannot understand it. 7 ¶ Where shall I go from thy spirit? or where shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend to the heavens, thou art there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the dawn and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall shine because of me. 12 Even the darkness does not hide from thee; but the night shines as the day; the darkness is as the light. 13 For thou hast possessed my kidneys: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works, and that, my soul knows right well. 15 My body was not hid from thee, even though I was made in secret and brought together in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance yet being imperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which were then formed, without lacking one of them. 17 ¶ Therefore, how precious are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with thee. 19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God; depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. 21 Do I not hate all those, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them mine enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts 24 and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way eternal.
