¹ ¶ After these things the Lord appointed another seventy also and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself would come. ² Therefore he said unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. ³ Go; behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse nor provision bag nor shoes, and greet no one on the way. ⁵ And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if indeed there is a son of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, it shall turn to you again. ⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatever city ye enter and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you ⁹ and heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come near unto you. ¹⁰ But into whatever city ye enter and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your city which cleaves on us we do wipe off against you; notwithstanding be ye sure of this that the kingdom of God is come near unto you. ¹² But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which have been done in you, they would have repented a long while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ Therefore it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. ¹⁵ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto the heavens, shalt be thrust down to Hades. ¹⁶ He that hears you hears me, and he that despises you despises me, and he that despises me despises him that sent me. ¹⁷ ¶ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ²⁰ Notwithstanding, rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in the heavens. ²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. ²² All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, and who the Father is, but the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal him. ²³ And he turned him unto his disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see, ²⁴ for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see those things which ye see and did not see them and to hear those things which ye hear and did not hear them. ²⁵ ¶ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou? ²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy understanding, and thy neighbour as thyself. ²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right; do this, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? ³⁰ And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment and wounded him and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And it so happened that a certain priest came down that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he came near the place and looked on him, he passed by on the other side. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion ³⁴ and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two denarius and gave them to the host and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. ³⁶ Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? ³⁷ And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go and do thou likewise. ³⁸ ¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was cumbered about in much serving and came to him and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things; ⁴² but only one thing is necessary, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

¹⁶ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be elders of the people, and their princes; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the testimony that they may stand there with thee.

²⁴ ¶ And Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and set them round about the tabernacle. ²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. ²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp.

¹ ¶ Then calling his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of weakness. ² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: the first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; ⁴ Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

⁷ ¶ And he called unto him the twelve and began to send them forth by two and two and gave them power over the unclean spirits ⁸ and commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except a staff only: no provision bag, no bread, no money in their purse; ⁹ but be shod with sandals and not put on two coats. ¹⁰ And he said unto them, In whatever place ye enter into a house, there abide until ye depart from that place. ¹¹ And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city. ¹² And they went out and preached that men should repent. ¹³ And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious to the prudence of the just, to make ready a prepared people for the Lord.

⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called prophet of the Most High, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,

⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make his paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; ⁶ and all flesh shall see the saving health of God.

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, Weep not.

¹ ¶ Then he called his twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

⁵² and sent messengers before his face; and they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him.

² As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work unto which I have called them. ³ And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they released them. ⁴ ¶ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

³ ¶ And I will give my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. ⁵ And if anyone desires to hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone desires to hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. ⁶ These have power to shut the heaven, that it not rain in the days of their prophecy and have power over the waters to turn them to blood and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them and shall overcome them and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the streets of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. ⁹ And those of the peoples and kindreds and tongues and Gentiles shall see their dead bodies three days and a half and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. ¹⁰ And those that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them and make merry and shall send gifts one to another because these two prophets tormented those that dwelt on the earth.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

²⁹ And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? It would be good that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

²² Then Elijah spoke again unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

⁶ Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king. ⁷ And Jehoshaphat said, Is there even yet a prophet of the LORD here that we might enquire of him? ⁸ And the king of Israel replied unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah, the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

¹¹ The Lord shall give a word; great shall be the host of the evangelists thereof.

⁹ ¶ All ye beasts of the field, all ye beasts of the forest; come to devour. ¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs; they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, they love to slumber. ¹¹ And these anxious dogs are insatiable, and even the shepherds did not know enough to understand: they all look to their own ways, each one for his gain, from his quarter. ¹² Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day, or much more excellent.

¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to my heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say unto the pastors, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? ³ Ye eat the milk, and ye clothe yourselves with the wool, ye kill those that are fat; but ye do not feed the flock. ⁴ Ye have not strengthened the weak, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty ye have ruled them; ⁵ and they are dispersed because there is no shepherd; and they became food to all the beasts of the field, and they were scattered. ⁶ My sheep were lost and wandered through all the mountains and upon every high hill; my flock was dispersed upon all the face of the earth, and there was no one to search for them or to require anything of them.

⁵ whose buyers slayed them and held themselves not guilty; and he that sold them said, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and not even their own shepherds had compassion on them.

¹⁷ Woe to the useless pastor that leaves the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm and upon his right eye; his arm shall be completely dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

³⁶ And when he saw the multitude, he was moved with compassion on them because they fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. ³⁷ Then he said unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; ³⁸ pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

¹ ¶ For the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, the husband of a house, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

³⁴ As the man who, taking a far journey, left his house and gave his estate to his slaves and to each one his responsibility and commanded the porter to watch.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

²⁰ And they, going forth, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word with the signs which followed them. Amen.

¹ ¶ Then he called his twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases.

³⁵ Do ye not say, There are yet four months and then comes harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, for they are white already to harvest. ³⁶ And he that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. ³⁷ And herein is that saying true, One sows and another reaps. ³⁸ I have sent you to reap that upon which ye bestowed no labour; others laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.

⁴ ¶ But those that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word of the gospel.

¹⁹ ¶ Now those who were scattered abroad by the tribulation that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice and Cyprus and Antioch, preaching the word to no one except only unto the Jews.

² As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work unto which I have called them.

⁴ ¶ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁹ And a vision was shown to Paul in the night: There stood a man of Macedonia, asking him, saying, Come over into Macedonia and help us. ¹⁰ And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel unto them.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart, for I will send thee far from here unto the Gentiles.

¹⁵ And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou dost persecute. ¹⁶ But rise and stand upon thy feet, for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen and of those things in which I will appear unto thee; ¹⁷ delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee ¹⁸ to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters, but God that gives the increase. ⁸ Now he that plants and he that waters are one although each one shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ⁹ For we are labourers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

²⁸ And God did set certain ones in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}: first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that faculties, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am; and his grace towards me was not in vain, for I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

¹ ¶ We then, as workers together with him, exhort you also that ye have not received the grace of God in vain.

⁷ But unto each one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ. ⁸ Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.) ¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers, ¹² for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto the edifying of the body of the Christ

²¹ For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

²⁵ Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and companion in labour and fellowsoldier, but your messenger and he that ministered to my needs.

³⁰ because for the work of the Christ he was near unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

²⁹ in which I continue to labour, contending according to his operation, which he works in me mightily.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ, salutes you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand firm, perfect and fulfilled in all the will of God.

⁹ For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail, for labouring night and day, not to be a burden unto any of you, we preached among you the gospel of God.

¹² And we beseech you, brethren, to recognize those who labour among you and preside over you in the Lord and admonish you

¹ ¶ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified, even as it is with you,

¹² ¶ And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, ¹³ who was before a blasphemer and a persecutor and injurious, but I was received unto mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. ¹⁴ And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ For this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

¹⁵ Occupy thyself in these things with care, for in this is everything, that thy profiting may be manifest unto all. ¹⁶ Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

¹⁷ ¶ Let the elders that govern well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine. ¹⁸ For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

³ Thou, therefore, work hard as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ⁴ No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier. ⁵ And also if anyone contends in public contest, he is not crowned, except he contends legitimately. ⁶ The husbandman, in order to receive the fruits, must first work hard.

⁵ But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry.

¹ ¶ Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy, our brother, unto Philemon, our dearly beloved and fellowlabourer,

⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, which house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the glorious hope firmly until the end.

¹ ¶ Unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Ephesus write; These things, saith he that holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:

² But leave out the court which is within the temple and measure it not, for it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty-two months. ³ ¶ And I will give my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.

¹² Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round about. ¹³ They opened their mouth upon me as a ravening and a roaring lion. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. ¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

²¹ Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the unicorns.

³ And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the sons of Israel, to rebellious Gentiles that have rebelled against me: they and their fathers have rebelled against me, even unto this very day. ⁴ And to sons that have hard faces and strong hearts do I send thee; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said. ⁵ And they will not hear nor forbear (for they are a rebellious house), but they shall know that there has been a prophet among them. ⁶ ¶ And thou, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, for they are rebels; though thou find thyself among thorns and thy dwelling be with briers, do not be afraid of their words, nor fear before them, for they are a rebellious house.

³ Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not leave a bone for tomorrow.

¹⁵ ¶ Keep yourselves also from the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

¹⁶ ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore prudent as serpents and innocent as doves.

²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name, but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

¹² But the hireling, who is not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches them and scatters the sheep.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues, and the hour will even come when whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.

² and asked him for letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

¹⁶ for I will show him how much it behooves him to suffer for my name.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

³³ And they set food before him to eat, but he said, I will not eat until I have told my errand. And he said unto him, Speak on.

⁵⁶ And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.

⁸ And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand a spear or a sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the king’s business required haste.

²⁴ Then she caused the ass to be saddled and said to her servant, Lead and go forward; slack not the pace for me except I bid thee.

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins and take my staff in thy hand and go; if thou meet anyone, salute him not; and if anyone salutes thee, answer him not again, and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

²⁵ Let thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee.

⁹ Provide neither gold nor silver nor money in your girdles, ¹⁰ nor bag for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes nor a staff, for the workman is worthy of his food. ¹¹ And into whatever city or town ye shall enter, search out with diligence who in it is worthy; and there abide until ye go from there. ¹² And entering into the house, salute it. ¹³ And if the house is worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it is not worthy, your peace shall return to you. ¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear your words, depart out of that house or city and shake off the dust of your feet.

⁵⁹ And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father. ⁶⁰ Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead, but go thou and declare the kingdom of God.

⁶ And thus shall ye say to him, May thou live and peace be unto thee and peace be unto thy house and peace be unto all that thou hast.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off and to him that is near, said the LORD; and healed him.

¹² And entering into the house, salute it. ¹³ And if the house is worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it is not worthy, your peace shall return to you.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, This day saving health is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

³⁶ The word which God sent unto the sons of Israel, preaching the gospel: peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),

¹⁸ And all this by God, who reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; ¹⁹ for certainly God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them and having placed in us the word of reconciliation. ²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did exhort you by us; we beseech you in Christ’s name, be ye reconciled to God.

¹⁷ and he came and preached peace unto you who were afar off and to those that were near.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer rose up in my bosom.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

¹⁵ For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in those that are saved and in those that perish; ¹⁶ to the one we are the savour of death unto death and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

² in which in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the will of the prince of the power of this air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience, ³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

⁶ Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

¹⁶ ¶ Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by every means. The Lord be with you all.

¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.

¹⁴ as obedient sons, not conforming yourselves with the former desires that you had before in your ignorance,

¹² and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye and your sons and your daughters and your menslaves and your maidslaves and the Levite that is within your gates because he has no part nor inheritance with you.

¹⁸ But thou must eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall have chosen, thou and thy son and thy daughter and thy manslave and thy maidslave and the Levite that is within thy gates; and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all the work of thy hands. ¹⁹ Keep thyself that thou not forsake the Levite in all thy days upon thy land.

¹⁰ nor bag for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes nor a staff, for the workman is worthy of his food. ¹¹ And into whatever city or town ye shall enter, search out with diligence who in it is worthy; and there abide until ye go from there.

¹⁰ And he said unto them, In whatever place ye enter into a house, there abide until ye depart from that place.

⁴ And whatever house ye enter into, abide there and depart from there.

¹⁵ And when she was baptized, with her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide there. And she constrained us.

³⁴ And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

⁴⁰ And leaving the prison, they entered into the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them and departed.

⁴ Do we not have authority to eat and to drink? ⁵ Do we not have authority to bring with us a sister, a wife, as also the other apostles and as the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? ⁶ Do only Barnabas and I not have authority to forbear working? ⁷ Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? or who feeds a flock and does not eat of the milk of the flock? ⁸ Do I say this only according to men? or does not the law say the same also? ⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads out the grain. Does God take care for oxen? ¹⁰ Or does he say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that plows should plow in hope, and that he that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. ¹¹ If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap material things from you? ¹² If others are partakers of this authority over you, why not us? Nevertheless we have not used this authority, but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do ye not know that those who work with sacred things live of the things of the sanctuary? and those who serve at the altar partake of the altar? ¹⁴ Even so the Lord has ordained that those who preach the gospel should live of the gospel. ¹⁵ ¶ But I have used none of these things, neither have I written these things that it should be so done unto me; for it were better for me to die than that anyone should make this my glory void.

⁶ Let the one that is taught in the word communicate unto the one that teaches in all good things.

¹⁷ Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. ¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

¹³ And reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

⁶ The husbandman, in order to receive the fruits, must first work hard.

⁵ Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatever thou doest regarding the brethren and with the strangers, ⁶ who have borne witness of thy charity before the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, whom if thou wilt help them as is convenient according to God, thou shalt do well; ⁷ because for his name’s sake, they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. ⁸ We, therefore, ought to receive such, that we might be fellow workers to the truth.

⁴⁰ He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

⁴⁸ and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me; for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

¹⁰ But into whatever city ye enter and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same and say,

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

²⁷ If any of those that do not believe bid you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you asking no questions for conscience sake.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall raise up a kingdom which eternally shall never become corrupted, and this kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

² and saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁷ From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand.

⁷ And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has come. ⁸ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons; freely ye have received, freely give.

³⁰ He also said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we compare it?

¹³ And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.

² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

¹¹ Even the very dust of your city which cleaves on us we do wipe off against you; notwithstanding be ye sure of this that the kingdom of God is come near unto you.

²⁰ ¶ And when he was asked of the Pharisees when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation; ²¹ neither shall they say, Behold it here! or, Behold it there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

³ Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a person be born again from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

⁷ In the same quarters were possessions of a principal man of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and lodged us three days courteously. ⁸ And it came to pass that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of dysentery, to whom Paul entered in and prayed and laid his hands on him and healed him. ⁹ So when this was done, others also, who had diseases in the island, came and were healed, ¹⁰ who also honoured us with many gifts; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

²⁸ Be it known, therefore, unto you that this saving health of God is sent unto the Gentiles and that they will hear it.

³¹ preaching the kingdom of God and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all liberty, without hindrance.

¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear your words, depart out of that house or city and shake off the dust of your feet.

⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them and came unto Iconium.

⁶ And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook his raiment and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from now on I will go unto the Gentiles.

¹¹ ¶ For this commandment which I command thee today is not hidden unto thee, neither is it far off. ¹² It is not in heaven, that thou should say, Who shall go up for us to heaven and take it for us and recite it unto us, that we may fulfil it? ¹³ Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou should say, Who shall go over the sea for us and take it for us and recite it unto us, that we may fulfil it? ¹⁴ But the word is very near unto thee, in thy mouth and in thy heart that thou may fulfil it.

¹¹ And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city.

⁹ and heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come near unto you.

²⁶ Men and brethren, sons of the lineage of Abraham, and whosoever among you fears God, unto you is this word of saving health sent.

⁴⁰ Beware, therefore, lest what is spoken of in the prophets come upon you:

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas speaking with freedom, said, It was necessary indeed that the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁸ But what does it say? The word is near thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach,

²¹ And against Israel he says, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

⁶ Vau For the iniquity of the daughter of my people has increased more than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and companies did not camp upon her.

⁴⁸ As I live, said the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister has never done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the afflicted and needy. ⁵⁰ And they filled themselves with arrogance and committed abomination before me, and when I saw it, I took them away.

¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of those of Sodom and those of Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for thee.

⁶ Therefore, I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹ ¶ The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in; from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. ² Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou mart of Zidon, that by passing over the sea thou wert replenished. ³ Her provision was from the plantings that grow with the many waters of the Nile, of the harvest of the river. She was also the mart of the Gentiles. ⁴ Be thou ashamed, O Zidon, for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I have never travailed nor brought forth children, neither did I nourish up young men nor bring up virgins. ⁵ When the report comes unto Egypt, they shall be sorely pained at the news from Tyre. ⁶ Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle. ⁷ Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? Her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. ⁸ Who has decreed this against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honourable of the earth? ⁹ The LORD of the hosts has purposed it to stain the pride of all glory and to bring down all those who are exalted in the earth. ¹⁰ Pass by as a river from thy land, O daughter of Tarshish; for thou shalt have no more strength. ¹¹ He stretched out his hand over the sea; he shook the kingdoms; the LORD commanded upon Canaan that her strength should be weakened. ¹² And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon; arise, pass over to Chittim, and even there thou shalt have no rest. ¹³ Behold the land of the Chaldeans. This people was not until the Assyrian founded it for those that dwell in the wilderness; they set up its towers; they raised up its palaces, and he brought it to ruin. ¹⁴ Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, for your strength is laid waste. ¹⁵ ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years according to the days of one king; after the end of seventy years Tyre shall sing as a harlot. ¹⁶ Take a harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing the song again that thou may be remembered. ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire and shall commit fornication again with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. ¹⁸ But her profit and her hire shall be consecrated unto the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up for her profit shall be for those that dwell before the LORD, to eat until they are filled and to dress honourably.

³ to order in Zion those that mourn, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

⁶ not to many peoples of profound speech nor of hard language, whose words thou can not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee. ⁷ But the house of Israel will not desire to hear; for they do not desire to hear me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ² Son of man, because Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, Aha, it is well that she is broken who is the gate of the peoples; she is turned unto me; I shall be filled; and she shall be deserted: ³ therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said; Behold, I am against thee, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against thee as the sea causes its waves to come up. ⁴ And they shall demolish the walls of Tyre and destroy her towers; I will also scrape her dust from her and make her like the top of a rock. ⁵ It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spoken, said the Lord GOD, and it shall be spoiled by the Gentiles. ⁶ And her daughters who are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD. ⁷ For thus hath the Lord GOD said; Behold, I bring upon Tyre Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses and with chariots and with horsemen and companies and many people. ⁸ He shall slay with the sword thy daughters who are in the field; and he shall make a fort against thee and cast a mount against thee and lift up the buckler against thee. ⁹ And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his hammers he shall break down thy towers. ¹⁰ By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee; thy walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen and of the wheels, and of the chariots when he shall enter into thy gates as men enter through breaches into a destroyed city. ¹¹ With the hoofs of his horses he shall tread down all thy streets; he shall slay thy people by the sword, and the statues of thy strength shall fall to the ground. ¹² And they shall steal thy riches and make a spoil of thy merchandise; and they shall ruin thy walls and destroy thy precious houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the waters. ¹³ And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall no longer be heard. ¹⁴ And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt never be built again; for I the LORD have spoken, said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD said to Tyre: Certainly the isles shall shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded shall cry, when the slaughter shall be made in the midst of thee. ¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones and lay away their robes and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground and shall tremble at every moment and be astonished at thee. ¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for thee and say to thee, How didst thou perish, that wast inhabited in the seas? The renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be on all those that dwell therein. ¹⁸ Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be terrorized at thy end. ¹⁹ For thus hath the Lord GOD said: I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; I shall cause the abyss to come up over thee and the many waters shall cover thee. ²⁰ And I shall bring thee down with those that descend into the grave, with the people of the age, and shall set thee in the lowest part of the earth, as the deserts of old, with those that go down to the grave, that thou not be inhabited again; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; ²¹ I will turn thee into nothing, and thou shalt be no more; though thou be sought for, yet thou shalt never be found again, said the Lord GOD.

¹ ¶ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, ² Now, thou son of man, raise up lamentations upon Tyre. ³ And say unto Tyre, O thou that dwelleth at the ports of the sea, who art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; O Tyre, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty. ⁴ In the heart of the seas are thy border; thy builders have completed thy beauty. ⁵ They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir; they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee. ⁶ Of the oaks of Bashan they have made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim. ⁷ Of fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was thy curtain, that it might serve to be thy sail; {Heb. banner}; of blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thy pavilion. ⁸ The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy rowers; thy wise men, O Tyre, were in thee; they were thy pilots. ⁹ The elders of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee to repair thy breaches: all the galleys of the sea with their rowers were in thee to negotiate thy business dealings. ¹⁰ Those of Persia and of Lud and of Africa were in thine army, thy men of war: they hung the shield and helmet in thee; they extolled thy beauty. ¹¹ The sons of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hung their shields upon thy walls round about; they completed thy beauty. ¹² Tarshish was thy market by reason of the multitude of all thy riches in silver, iron, tin, and lead; they traded in thy fairs. ¹³ Greece, Tubal, and Meshech, thy merchants, with the soul of men and with vessels of brass; they traded in thy fairs. ¹⁴ Those of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules. ¹⁵ The sons of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles took merchandise from thy hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and peacocks. ¹⁶ Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they traded in thy fairs with rubies and purple and broidered work and fine linen and coral and pearls. ¹⁷ Judah, and the land of Israel; they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market with wheat, Minnith and Pannag and honey and oil and balm. ¹⁸ Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the abundance of all riches, with wine of Helbon and white wool. ¹⁹ Dan also and Greece and Mozel traded in thy fairs bright iron, cassia, and calamus. ²⁰ Dedan was thy merchant in precious cloth for chariots. ²¹ Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, merchants of thy strength in lambs and rams and he goats: in these they were thy merchants. ²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah; they were thy merchants: they traded in thy fairs with the chief of all spices and with all precious stones and gold. ²³ Haran and Canneh and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad were in thy market. ²⁴ These, thy merchants, negotiated with thee in all sorts of things: in blue robes and broidered work and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords and made of cedar, among thy merchandise. ²⁵ The ships of Tarshish, thy squadrons, went forth on thy behalf: and thou wast full, and wast multiplied greatly in the midst of the seas. ²⁶ ¶ In many waters they overcame thy rowers; the east wind has broken thee in the midst of the seas.

¹ ¶ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, ² Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because thy heart has lifted thee up and thou hast said, I am God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas (yet thou art man, and not God); and thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God: ³ behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee: ⁴ with thy wisdom and with thine intelligence thou hast gotten thee riches and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures: ⁵ by the greatness of thy wisdom in thy trafficking thou hast multiplied thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches: ⁶ therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God, ⁷ behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the strong ones of the Gentiles, and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness. ⁸ They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die of the death of those that are slain in the midst of the seas. ⁹ Wilt thou yet say before him that slays thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and not God, in the hand of him that slays thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken, said the Lord GOD. ¹¹ ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ¹² Son of man, raise up lamentations upon the king of Tyre and say unto him, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Thou dost seal up the sum of perfection, full of wisdom, and completed in beauty. ¹³ Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering: the sardius, topaz, diamond, turquoise, onyx, and beryl, the sapphire, ruby, and emerald, and gold; the works of thy tambourines and of thy pipes were prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. ¹⁴ Thou, great cherubim, wast covered, and I placed thee; thou wast in the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked among stones of fire. ¹⁵ Thou wast perfect in all thy ways from the day that thou wast created, until iniquity was found in thee. ¹⁶ Because of the multitude of thy trafficking thou wast filled with violence, and thou hast sinned; and I cast thee out of the mountain of God, and I cast thee unto evil from among the stones of fire, O cherubim that wast covered. ¹⁷ Thine heart lifted thee up because of thy beauty; thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness; I will cast thee to the earth; I will expose thee before the kings, that they may behold thee. ¹⁸ Thou hast defiled thy sanctuary by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy trafficking; therefore I brought forth fire from the midst of thee, which has consumed thee, and I brought thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all those that behold thee. ¹⁹ All those that knew thee from among the peoples shall marvel over thee; thou hast been greatly disturbed, and thou shalt not exist again forever. ²⁰ ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ²¹ Son of man, set thy face against Zidon and prophesy against her ²² and say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her and shall be sanctified in her. ²³ For I will send into her pestilence and blood into her streets; and the dead shall fall in the midst of her, by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD. ²⁴ And there shall no longer be a pricking brier unto the house of Israel, nor any thorn that causes him pain, round about them of those that despise them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD. ²⁵ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered and shall be sanctified in them in the eyes of the Gentiles, then they shall dwell in their land that I have given to my slave Jacob. ²⁶ And they shall dwell safely therein and shall build houses and plant vineyards; and they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments in all those that spoil them round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.

³ And I turned my face unto the Lord God, seeking him in prayer and supplication, in fasting and sackcloth, and ashes:

⁴ Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? will ye render me a recompense? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense upon your own head; ⁵ because ye have taken my silver and my gold and have carried into your temples my precious and beautiful things ⁶ and ye have sold the sons of Judah and the sons of Jerusalem unto the Grecians that ye might remove them far from their border. ⁷ Behold, I will raise them out of the place where ye have sold them and will return your recompense upon your own head: ⁸ and I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD has spoken it.

²⁰ Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done because they repented not: ²¹ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ²² But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to Hades, for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in those of Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

²² ¶ And he came to Bethsaida, and they bring a blind man unto him and beseech him to touch him. ²³ So, taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the town; and spitting into his eyes and putting his hands upon them, he asked him if he saw anything. ²⁴ And looking, he said, I see men; I see that they walk as trees. ²⁵ After that, he put his hands again upon his eyes and caused him to see; and he was whole and saw everyone, far away and clearly. ²⁶ And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

¹⁰ ¶ And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. ¹¹ And the people, when they knew it, followed him, and he received them and spoke unto them of the kingdom of God and healed those that had need of healing. ¹² And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve and said unto him, Send the multitude away that they may go into the towns and country round about and lodge and get victuals, for we are here in a desert place. ¹³ But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fishes, unless we should go and buy food for all these people. ¹⁴ For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down in companies of fifty. ¹⁵ And they did so and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them and broke and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they ate and were all filled, and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ And when they did not agree among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken this word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, ²⁶ saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and not perceive; ²⁷ for the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and should be converted and I should heal them. ²⁸ Be it known, therefore, unto you that this saving health of God is sent unto the Gentiles and that they will hear it.

²⁹ And as Isaiah said before, Except the Lord of the hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom and been made like unto Gomorrha. ³⁰ ¶ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, that is to say, the righteousness which is by faith, ³¹ and Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. ³² Why? Because they followed it not by faith but, as it were, by the works (of the law); therefore, they stumbled on the stumblingstone; ³³ as it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock that will cause some to fall, and whosoever believes in him shall not be ashamed.

⁸ (according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always. ¹¹ I say then, Have they stumbled in such a manner that they should fall completely? No, in no wise; but rather through their fall, saving health is come unto the Gentiles to provoke them unto jealousy.

² that in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron;

³ ¶ And I will give my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore, I will visit all your iniquities against you.

⁴⁷ And that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil.

²² If I had not come and spoken unto them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He that hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other man has done, they would not have sin; but now they have seen them and hate both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this comes to pass that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

¹ ¶ Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest; for in that which thou dost judge another, thou dost condemn thyself; for thou that judgest others doest the same things.

²⁷ And that which is by nature foreskin, but keeps the law perfectly, shall judge thee who with the letter and with the circumcision art rebellious to the law.

⁴ And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

²⁸ Where shall we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, This people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

¹⁴ Therefore Sheol has enlarged himself and opened his mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude descended into it and their pomp and he that rejoiced in him.

¹³ Thou who said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven; upon high next to the stars of God I will exalt my throne: and I will sit upon the mount of the testimony and in the sides of the north; ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. ¹⁵ Yet thou shalt be cast down to Sheol, to the sides of the pit.

⁵³ Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify her strength upon high, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, said the LORD.

²⁰ And I shall bring thee down with those that descend into the grave, with the people of the age, and shall set thee in the lowest part of the earth, as the deserts of old, with those that go down to the grave, that thou not be inhabited again; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;

¹² Son of man, raise up lamentations upon the king of Tyre and say unto him, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Thou dost seal up the sum of perfection, full of wisdom, and completed in beauty. ¹³ Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering: the sardius, topaz, diamond, turquoise, onyx, and beryl, the sapphire, ruby, and emerald, and gold; the works of thy tambourines and of thy pipes were prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. ¹⁴ Thou, great cherubim, wast covered, and I placed thee; thou wast in the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked among stones of fire.

¹⁸ To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet thou shalt be cut down with the trees of Eden unto the lower parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his people, said the Lord GOD.

¹⁸ Son of man, lament over the multitude of Egypt and cast him down and the habitations of the strong Gentiles into the lower parts of the earth with those that go down into the grave.

²⁰ They shall fall in the midst of those that are slain by the sword; he is delivered to the sword; bring him and all his peoples.

²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who are gone down to Sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their sins shall be upon their bones because they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

² Though they dig unto Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down; ³ and though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out of there; and though they hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.

¹³ and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,

²⁸ And fear not those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to Hades, for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in those of Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

¹ ¶ Now when he had ended all his words in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. ² And a certain centurion’s slave, who was dear unto him, was sick and ready to die.

²⁸ In that place shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

²³ and in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁴ For if God did not forgive the angels that sinned, but cast them down into the deepest abyss {Gr. Tartarus} and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

¹¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? How long will it be before they believe me, with all the signs which I have done among them?

¹¹ For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD, for what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

⁶ ¶ The son honours his father and the slave his master; if then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? said the LORD of the hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?

⁵ And whosoever shall receive one such little child in my name receives me.

³⁷ Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receives me; and whosoever shall receive me, receives not me, but him that sent me.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him.

⁴⁴ ¶ But Jesus cried and said, He that believes in me, believes not in me, but in him that sent me,

⁴⁸ He that rejects me and does not receive my words has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

⁸ He therefore that despises us, does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

¹⁷ And these signs shall follow those that believe: In my name they shall cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues;

¹ ¶ After these things the Lord appointed another seventy also and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself would come.

²⁰ And let the God of peace bruise Satan under your feet quickly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

¹² How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, who didst claim the Gentiles as an inheritance!

¹⁰ Then Jesus said unto him, Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

¹¹ of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹⁴ ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the empire of death, that is, the devil,

⁸ He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, that he might undo the works of the devil.

¹ ¶ And the fifth angel sounded the trumpet, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth; and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

⁷ And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, ⁸ and did not prevail; neither was their place found any more in heaven. ⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, the serpent of old, which is the Devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years

¹³ Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

⁸ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

⁶ ¶ And thou, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, for they are rebels; though thou find thyself among thorns and thy dwelling be with briers, do not be afraid of their words, nor fear before them, for they are a rebellious house.

¹⁸ they shall take away serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands upon the sick, and they shall be healed.

¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. ¹⁸ But not a hair of your head shall perish.

⁵ And he shook off the beast into the fire and felt no harm.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us? ³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also give us all things with him? ³³ Who shall accuse the chosen of God’s? God is he that justifies them. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns them? Christ, Jesus, is he who died and, even more, he that also rose again, who furthermore is at the right hand of God, who also makes entreaty for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the charity of Christ? shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ (As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. ³⁸ Therefore I am certain that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come ³⁹ nor height nor depth nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the charity of God, which is in Christ, Jesus our Lord.

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

⁵ And if anyone desires to hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone desires to hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

³² that thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me now out of thy book which thou hast written.

²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of the living and not be written with the righteous.

³ And it shall come to pass that he that is left in Zion and he that remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem,

⁹ And my hand shall be against the prophets that see vanity and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the book of the house of Israel, neither shall they return to the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

¹ ¶ And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who is for the sons of thy people, and it shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there were people until now, but in that time thy people shall escape, all those that are found written in the book.

²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

¹ ¶ Then calling his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of weakness.

²⁴ The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.

⁵ And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed and went and hanged himself.

² And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. ³ And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity, it profits me nothing.

³ And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women who laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also and with my other fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

²³ to the congregation of the called out ones of the firstborn, who are registered in the heavens and to God the Judge of all and to the spirits of just men made perfect

⁵ He that overcomes shall likewise be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.

⁸ And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship it, whose names are not written in the book of the life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened; which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

²⁷ And there shall in no wise enter into it anything unclean or that works abomination or makes a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own prudence, and the counsel of his adversaries is turned to folly. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope in the noonday as in the night.

² Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.

¹⁴ Nun The secret of the LORD is for those that fear him, and he will show them his covenant.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvellous work among this people with a fearful miracle: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the prudence of their prudent men shall fade away.

¹⁸ And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see in the midst of darkness, and of gross darkness. ¹⁹ Then the humble shall grow in joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

⁸ And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities.

⁵ For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee; and as the bridegroom rejoices with the bride, so shall thy God rejoice with thee.

¹ ¶ Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where shall remain this house that ye built unto me? and where shall remain this place of my rest?

¹⁷ The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children. ²⁶ Even so, Father, for thus it was pleasing in thy sight. ²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has. ¹³ Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive; ¹⁵ for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them. ¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

¹⁶ and said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus said unto them, Yes; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of children and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

⁵ And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

⁹ And when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

²⁴ ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am, that they may behold my clarity, which thou hast given me, for thou hast loved me from before the foundation of the world. ²⁵ O righteous Father, the world has not known thee; but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. ²⁶ And I have manifested unto them thy name and will manifest it still, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

⁹ God is faithful, by whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. ¹⁰ ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfect, joined together in the same understanding and in the same perception. ¹¹ For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by those of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. ¹² In other words, that each one of you says, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ. ¹³ Is the Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul? ¹⁴ ¶ I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius, ¹⁵ lest any should say that ye were baptized into my name. ¹⁶ And I baptized also the household of Stephanas; besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. ¹⁷ ¶ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of Christ should be made void. ¹⁸ For the word of the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} is foolishness to those that perish, but unto us who are saved, it is the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For in the wisdom of God, since the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe. ²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom, ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, {Gr. Stauroo – hung on a stake}, unto the Jews a stumblingblock and unto the Gentiles foolishness; ²⁴ but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ For that which is foolish of God is wiser than men, and that which is weak of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For look upon your vocation, brothers, that ye are not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, ²⁷ but rather God has chosen that which is the foolishness of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen that which is the weakness of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and that which is vile of the world and that which is despised God has chosen, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are, ²⁹ that no flesh should glory in his presence.

⁶ ¶ For we speak perfect wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this age nor of the princes of this age, that come to nought, ⁷ but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages unto our glory, ⁸ which none of the princes of this age knew (for had they known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory).

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness. ²⁰ And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

³ But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those that are lost,

⁵ having marked out beforehand the way for us to be adopted as sons by Jesus Christ in himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

¹¹ in him in whom likewise we have obtained an inheritance, having had the way marked out beforehand according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will,

² that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in charity and in all the riches of the fulfilled understanding to know the mystery of the God and Father and of the Christ; ³ in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings, ² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself ²⁷ and has also given him power and authority to execute judgment because he is the Son of man.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who has sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard from the Father and has learned comes unto me. ⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.

¹⁵ As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down my soul for the sheep.

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

¹⁰ And all my things are thine, and thine are mine; and I have been clarified in them.

²⁶ And I have manifested unto them thy name and will manifest it still, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

²⁴ Then comes the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²¹ far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come,

⁹ Therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not see yet that all things are put under him.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ Whosoever rebels and does not abide in the doctrine of the Christ, does not have God. He that abides in the doctrine of the Christ, the same has the Father and the Son.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. ¹⁷ For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but seeing them afar off and believing them and embracing them and confessing that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

³⁹ And these all, approved by testimony of faith, received not the promise,

¹⁰ ¶ Of which saving health the prophets, (who prophesied of the grace that was to come in you) have enquired and searched diligently; ¹¹ searching when and in what point of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, which announced beforehand the afflictions that were to come upon the Christ, and the glory that should follow them. ¹² Unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us they did administer the things, which are now announced unto you by those that have preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, which things the angels desire to look into.

¹⁶ ¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? ¹⁷ And he said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. ¹⁸ He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, ¹⁹ Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

³⁴ ¶ Then the Pharisees, hearing that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered together. ³⁵ And one of them, who was an interpreter of the law, asked him a question, tempting him and saying, ³⁶ Master, which is the great commandment in the law? ³⁷ Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered and said unto him, Master, saying these things, thou dost reproach us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

¹⁸ ¶ And a certain prince asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

³⁰ and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? ³¹ And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

¹⁸ For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

¹⁹ ¶ Now we know that all that the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may submit themselves unto God.

¹⁴ For if those who are of the law are the heirs, faith is in vain, and the promise annulled, ¹⁵ because the law works wrath; for where there is no law, there is no rebellion either. ¹⁶ Therefore by faith, that it might be by grace, to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to that which is of the law, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

⁵ For Moses describes the righteousness which is by the law, That the man who does those things shall live by them.

¹² And the law is not of faith, but The man that does the commandments shall live by them. ¹³ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree),

²¹ Is the law then against the promises of God? No, in no wise, for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. ²² But the scripture has concluded all under sin that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to the believers.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the sons of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. I am the LORD.

⁵ And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.

¹² ¶ And now, Israel, what does the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways and to love him and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

⁶ And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul, that thou may live.

¹⁹ Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

³⁷ Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy thought and with all thy strength: this is the principal commandment. ³¹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

³³ and to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the soul and with all the strength and to love his neighbour as himself is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. ³⁴ Then Jesus, seeing that he responded wisely, said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that dared ask him any question.

⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and if there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

¹³ ¶ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only do not use liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by charity serve one another.

¹⁰ For this is the testament that I will ordain to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their soul and write them upon their hearts, and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

⁸ ¶ If ye truly fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well;

¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

⁵ Therefore you shall keep my rights and my statutes, of which the man doing them, shall live in them. I am the LORD.

²⁹ and didst protest unto them, that they return unto thy law; yet they dealt proudly and did not hearken unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments (which if a man shall do, in them he shall live) and withdrew the shoulder and hardened their neck and would not hear.

¹¹ and I gave them my statutes and declared unto them my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they did not walk in my statutes, and they despised my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted; therefore I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness to consume them.

²¹ Notwithstanding, the sons rebelled against me: they did not walk in my statutes, nor keep my rights to do them, by which the man that does them shall live by them; they polluted my Sabbaths; then I said: I would pour out my fury upon them to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And he said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

³⁴ Then Jesus, seeing that he responded wisely, said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that dared ask him any question.

⁴³ Simon answered and said, I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, to give righteousness to every one that believes.

¹² And the law is not of faith, but The man that does the commandments shall live by them.

³⁴ But the stranger that dwells with you shall be as the natural of yourselves, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. I AM your God.

² Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was kindled; against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

⁴³ ¶ Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you;

³⁶ Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

⁹ ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

² For if Abraham were justified by works, he has reason to glory in himself, but not before God.

³ For they, being ignorant of God’s righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

¹¹ But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident, for The just shall live by faith.

²⁴ Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

⁴ I am counted with those that go down into the pit; I am as a man that has no strength:

⁵² Therefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will visit her graven images; and through all her land the wounded unto death shall groan.

¹² Lamed They said to their mothers, Where is the wheat and the wine? fainting as the dead in the streets of the city, pouring out their souls into their mothers’ bosom.

²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a man wounded unto death.

³¹ ¶ Then he took unto him the twelve and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

²⁸ ¶ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

³ And she went and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and it came to pass that her lot was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

⁶ And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear, and the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

¹⁴ ¶ He that is afflicted deserves mercy from his friend; but he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty. ¹⁵ My brethren have lied to me as a brook; they passed away as an impetuous stream, ¹⁶ which was hidden by ice and covered by snow. ¹⁷ Which in the time of heat, they vanish; when they are heated, they disappear out of their place; ¹⁸ they turn aside out of the paths of their way; they go to nothing and perish. ¹⁹ The travelers of Tema looked; the traveling companies of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰ They were put to shame because of their hope; they came there and found them confused. ²¹ Now ye are certainly as they; ye have seen the torment and are afraid.

¹⁰ My heart pants, my strength fails me; as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me. ¹¹ My friends and my companions stand aloof from my sore, and my kinsmen stand afar off.

²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness, and I looked for some to take pity, but there was no one, and for comforters, but I found none.

⁴ ¶ I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no one that would know me; I had no refuge; no one cared for my soul.

¹³ ¶ Whosoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself but shall not be heard.

¹¹ ¶ If thou forbear to deliver those that are drawn unto death and those that are ready to be slain, ¹² if thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand it? and he that keeps thy soul, does he not know it? and shall he not render to every man according to his works?

¹¹ ¶ I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of prudence, nor yet grace to men of eloquence; but time and chance happens to them all.

³¹ The prophets prophesied falsely, and the priests bore rule by their hands; and my people love to have it so. What will ye do in the end thereof?

¹ ¶ Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ear, O house of the king because the judgment is for you, for ye have been a snare in Mizpah and a net spread over Tabor.

⁹ And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the council of priests murder in the way by common accord; for they put the abomination into effect.

¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors or tend the fire on my altar for free? I have no pleasure in you, said the LORD of the hosts, neither will the offering from your hand be agreeable unto me.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment. ¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

¹⁶ In this we have known the charity of God because he laid down his life for us; we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

²⁵ I have become a reproach unto them; when they looked upon me they shook their heads.

¹⁰ Do not forsake thine own friend and thy father’s friend, neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity, for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

¹⁷ Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

² For there shall be men who are lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, evil speakers, disobedient to their parents, unthankful, impure,

⁶ And when she had opened it, she saw the child, and, behold, the babe wept. And having compassion on him, she said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

⁵⁰ and forgive thy people that have sinned against thee and all their rebellions by which they have rebelled against thee and cause those who carried them captive to have mercy on them,

⁷ Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king was then sitting in the gate of Benjamin, ⁸ Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying, ⁹ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is, for there is no more bread in the city. ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from here thirty men with thee and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies. ¹¹ So Ebedmelech took the men with him and went into the house of the king under the treasury and took from there old cast clouts and old rotten rags and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. ¹² And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so. ¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with cords and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

¹⁶ Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. ¹⁷ But I will deliver thee in that day, said the LORD, and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. ¹⁸ For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee, because thou hast put thy trust in me, said the LORD.

⁵ ¶ These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans,

³³ was it not also expedient unto thee to have mercy on thy fellowslave even as I had mercy on thee?

⁵² and sent messengers before his face; and they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him. ⁵³ And they did not receive him because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? ¹⁸ Were there not found any returning to give glory to God, except this stranger?

⁹ Then said the Samaritan woman unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

⁴⁸ Then the Jews answered, and said unto him, Do we not say well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

²⁷ And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass fodder in the inn, he saw his money; for, behold, it was in his sack’s mouth.

²⁴ ¶ And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him and sought to kill him.

⁴ If thou should encounter thine enemy’s ox or his ass astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If thou see the ass of him that hates thee lying under his burden, will thou forbear to help him? Thou shalt surely help him to raise it up.

³ He heals the broken hearted, and he binds up their wounds.

¹⁷ ¶ Do not rejoice when thy enemy falls, and do not let thy heart be glad when he stumbles ¹⁸ lest the LORD see it and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

²¹ ¶ If thy enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, ²² for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

⁵ Why should I chastise you any more? Ye will revolt more and more; every head is sick, and every heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in him; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

⁴³ ¶ Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father who is in the heavens, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

⁸ She has done what she could, for she has anticipated anointing my body for the burial.

⁷ And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.

²⁰ Therefore, if thine enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

¹⁵ See that no one renders evil for evil unto anyone, but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

¹⁷ ¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

² And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

¹³ But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,

²³ Gaius my host, and of the whole congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, salutes you. Erastus, the chamberlain of the city, salutes you, and Quartus, a brother.

²⁵ He said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus spoke unto him first, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own sons or of strangers?

²⁸ ¶ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not, but afterward he repented and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I will go, Lord, and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go ahead of you into the kingdom of God.

⁴² saying, What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

⁴² And when they had nothing to pay, he released them both from their debt. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

²¹ ¶ The sinner despises his neighbour, but he that has mercy on the poor is blessed.

⁶ For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

⁸ He has declared unto thee, O man, what is good and what the LORD requires of thee: only to do right judgment, and to love mercy, and to humble thyself to walk with thy God.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

²³ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have omitted that which is more important of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith; these were expedient for ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

³² For if ye love those who love you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. ³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

¹⁵ For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord; neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, ye shall be blessed if ye do them.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.

¹⁸ may be able to well comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height ¹⁹ and to know the charity of the Christ, which passes all knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings. ¹¹ For both he that sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God has given me. ¹⁴ ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the empire of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to slavery.

²¹ Because for this were ye called: for the Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps

²³ ¶ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he has commanded us. ²⁴ And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.

¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

² and certain women, who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, ³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who ministered unto him of their substance.

¹ ¶ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. ² (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair whose brother Lazarus was sick.) ³ Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. ⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. ⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

¹⁹ and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother. ²⁰ Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him; but Mary sat still in the house.

¹ ¶ Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. ² There they made him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those that sat at the table with him. ³ Then Mary took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

¹⁰ ¶ If anyone comes unto you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house neither say unto him, Welcome:

³ Yea, he loved the peoples; all his saints are in thy hand; they also united at thy feet; they received thy words.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

⁴⁶ And it came to pass that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them and asking them questions.

³⁵ Then they went out to see what was done and came to Jesus and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

³ ¶ I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel and taught according to the truth of the law of the fathers, zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

³² But I would have you without worry. He that is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord; ³³ but he that is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. ³⁴ There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit; but she that is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. ³⁵ And this I speak for your own profit, not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is honourable and that ye may attend upon the Lord without impediment. ³⁶ ¶ But if anyone thinks it uncomely regarding his daughter, if she passes the bloom of life, and need so requires, let him do what he will, he does not sin: let them marry. ³⁷ Nevertheless, he that stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has liberty regarding his own, and has so determined in his heart that he will keep his daughter, does well. ³⁸ So then he that gives her in marriage does well, but he that does not give her in marriage does better. ³⁹ ¶ The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is free and may be married to whom she will, if it is in the Lord. ⁴⁰ But she shall be more blessed if she so abides, after my counsel, and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

¹ ¶ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. ² And he prayed unto the LORD and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was this not what I said when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hastened to flee unto Tarshish, for I knew that thou art a gracious God and full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy, and dost repent when thou art come to take punishment. ³ Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me, for I would rather die than live. ⁴ Then the LORD said, Art thou so angry?

¹⁵ And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.

²² Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Lord, be it far from thee; in no wise shall this happen unto thee.

²¹ And when his friends and family heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him; for they said, He is beside himself.

⁵⁵ But he turned and rebuked them and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

²⁹ And seek not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, neither be ye high minded.

²⁷ Labour not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him has God the Father sealed.

¹¹ ¶ Certainly the many words multiply vanity, what more does man have?

²⁵ ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment? ²⁶ Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they? ²⁷ Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? ²⁸ And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; ²⁹ and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed? ³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the affliction thereof.

¹⁹ and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are those who when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection.

²² ¶ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

¹⁹ I call the heavens and the earth to witness today against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life that both thou and thy seed may live,

¹⁵ ¶ And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

²² And Joshua said unto the people, Ye shall be witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We shall be witnesses.

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; thou dost maintain my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

⁴ One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the LORD and to enquire in his temple.

²⁵ Whom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire.

³⁰ ¶ I have chosen the way of truth; I have laid thy judgments before me.

¹¹¹ ¶ I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage for ever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁷³ ¶ Let thine hand help me, for I have chosen thy precepts.

⁵ I cried unto thee, O LORD; I said, Thou art my hope and my portion in the land of the living.

¹³ ¶ The conclusion of the entire sermon is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole happiness of man.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?

¹⁸ Take heed therefore how ye hear, for whosoever has, to him shall be given; and whosoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up?

³³ Sell what ye have and give alms; {lit. do acts of mercy}; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches neither moth corrupts.

² And he called him and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for thou may no longer be steward.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime didst receive thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted here, and thou art tormented.

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.

¹⁴ but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; ²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

³ And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity, it profits me nothing.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith which works by charity.

¹⁰ and ye are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and power. ¹¹ In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of the Christ; ¹² buried together with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead. ¹³ ¶ And you, being dead in sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he has quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses, ¹⁴ blotting out the bill of the decrees that was against us, which was contrary to us and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross {Gr. stauro – stake}, ¹⁵ and having spoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. ¹⁶ ¶ Let no one therefore judge you in food or in drink or in respect of a feast day or of the new moon or of the sabbath days, ¹⁷ which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of the Christ. ¹⁸ Let no one govern you according to their own will under pretext of humility and religion of angels, intruding into those things which they have not seen, vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind, ¹⁹ and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, fed and united by its joints and bonds, grows in the increase of God.

³ For ye are dead and your life is hid with the Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also be manifested with him in glory.

⁴ unto the incorruptible inheritance that cannot be defiled and that does not fade away, conserved in the heavens for you, ⁵ who are kept in the virtue of God by faith, to attain unto the saving health which is made ready to be manifested in the last time.

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.
