¹⁴ I have said to the pit, Thou art my father; to the worms, my mother, and my sister.

²⁸ And man, is as a rotten thing that is being consumed, as a garment that is moth eaten.

²⁶ and afterward from this, my stricken skin and from my own flesh, I must see God:

²⁶ They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

³² He shall yet be brought to the grave and shall remain in the tomb. ³³ The clods of the river valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall be drawn after him, as there were innumerable before him.

²⁰ The Merciful One shall forget them; the worm shall feed sweetly on them; they shall never be remembered again; and iniquity shall be broken as a tree.

³⁰ My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.

¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thy Merciful One to see corruption.

⁹ that he should still live for ever and not see corruption.

¹¹ Thy pride is brought down to Sheol, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

²⁷ because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. ²⁹ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. ³⁰ Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne; ³¹ he, seeing this before, spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul was not left in Hades, neither did his flesh see corruption.

³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said this, I will give you the sure mercies promised to David. ³⁵ Therefore he also says in another place, Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption. ³⁶ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was gathered unto his fathers and saw corruption; ³⁷ but he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it shall be raised in incorruption;

⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the word that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
