¹¹ And the Lord said unto him, Arise and go into the street which is called Straight and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus; for, behold, he prays

²⁹ But if from there, thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

¹² And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ and when he prayed unto him, he was heard; for he heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.

¹⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the acts of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ His prayer also and how he was heard, and all his sins, and his trespass, and the places upon which he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he humbled himself; behold, these things are written among the words of the seers.

¹⁸ Thus he keeps back his soul from the pit and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ ¶ He is chastened also upon his bed with strong pain in all his bones, ²⁰ so that his life abhors bread and his soul dainty food. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out. ²² His soul shall draw near to the grave, and his life to those that would bury him. ²³ If there is a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show unto man his uprightness; ²⁴ to tell him that God had mercy on him, that he delivered him from going down to the pit; that he found a ransom; ²⁵ his flesh shall become more tender than a child’s; and he shall return to the days of his youth. ²⁶ He shall pray unto God, and he will love him; and he shall see his face with shouts of joy; for he will render unto the man the recompense of his righteousness. ²⁷ He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it did not profit me; ²⁸ God will ransom his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

³ When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my green growth is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. ⁵ I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and I have not hid my iniquity. I said, I will confess (against myself) my rebellions unto the LORD, and thou shalt forgive the iniquity of my sin. Selah. ⁶ For this shall every one that is merciful pray unto thee in the time when thou may be found; surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come near unto him.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ I waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. ² He brought me up also out of the pit of hopelessness, out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock and straightened my steps.

¹⁵ and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Out of the depths I cry unto thee, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. ³ If thou, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall endure?

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

⁶ ¶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹² Then ye shall call upon me, and ye shall walk in my ways and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. ¹³ And ye shall seek me, and find me, for ye shall seek me with all your heart.

¹⁸ ¶ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast afflicted me, and I was chastised as an indomitable bullock: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth. ²⁰ Peradventure is Ephraim a precious son unto me? Peradventure is he unto me a delightful child? With all this since I spoke of him, I have remembered him constantly. Therefore my bowels are troubled for him; in tenderness I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.

¹ ¶ Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, ² and said, I cried by reason of my tribulation unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice. ³ For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about; all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will see thy holy temple again.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of prayer, and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn over him as one mourns for his only son, afflicting themselves over him as one afflicts himself over his firstborn.

⁷ ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; ⁸ for every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

⁷ And shall not God avenge his own elect who cry day and night unto him though he bears long regarding them? ⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth? ⁹ ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast two meals every sabbath; I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁴² And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. ⁴³ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

²¹ and it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness and pray God, if perhaps this thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

²⁶ ¶ And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying, Arise and go toward the south unto the way that goes down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

³⁰ which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him forth to Tarsus.

⁵ And now send men to Joppa and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter; ⁶ he lodges with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side; he shall tell thee what it behooves thee to do.

¹³ And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said unto him, Send to Joppa and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter,

²⁵ Then Barnabas departed to Tarsus to seek Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch.

³⁹ But Paul said, I am certainly a Jew, a citizen of Tarsus, a city known in Cilicia; and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

³ ¶ I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel and taught according to the truth of the law of the fathers, zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
