¹⁸ And with these words they scarcely restrained the people, that they not sacrifice unto them.

⁶ And the LORD said, Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and they begin to do this, and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do.

⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This fellow came in to sojourn and is he to lift himself up as judge? Now will we deal worse with thee than with them. And they did great violence to the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

²¹ ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people do unto thee that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them? ²² And Aaron answered, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot; thou knowest the people that they are inclined to evil. ²³ For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us, for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth to burn incense unto the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁵ ¶ Jesus therefore knowing that they would come and take him by force to make him king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
