² but I beseech you that I need not be bold when I am present with that confidence, with which I am esteemed to use against some who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh.

¹ ¶ So that now, there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ, Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

⁵ For those that are according to the flesh know the things that are of the flesh; but those that are according to the Spirit, the things that are of the Spirit.

¹⁸ Now some are puffed up as though I will never come to you. ¹⁹ But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and will know not the words of those who are puffed up, but the virtue. ²⁰ For the kingdom of God is not in words, but in virtue. ²¹ What will ye? Shall I come unto you with a rod or in charity and in the spirit of meekness?

⁹ And when I was present with you and had need, I was not a burden to any of you, for that which was lacking to me was supplied by the brethren which came from Macedonia; and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. ¹⁰ It is the truth of Christ in me that this glory shall not be sealed up unto me in the regions of Achaia. ¹¹ Why? because I do not love you? God knows. ¹² But what I do, I will continue to do that I may take away the occasion from those who desire it to be found like unto us in that in which they glory. ¹³ For these false apostles are deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

¹³ For what is it in which ye were inferior to the other congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} except in that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong. ¹⁴ Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be burdensome to you, for I seek not your things, but you; for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be utterly spent for your souls though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved. ¹⁶ But be it so, I did not burden you; nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. ¹⁷ Did I make a gain of you by any of those whom I sent unto you? ¹⁸ I besought Titus and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus defraud you? Did we not walk in the same Spirit and in the same steps? ¹⁹ Again, do ye think that we excuse ourselves unto you? We speak before God in Christ, but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying. ²⁰ For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I desire and that I shall be found unto you such as ye desire not, lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, rumours, tumults,

² I told you before and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now, I write to those who until now have sinned and to all others that, if I come again, I will not spare,

¹⁰ Therefore I write these things being absent lest being present I should treat you with more severity, according to the power which the Lord has given me for edification, and not for destruction.

¹⁶ This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. ¹⁷ For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other, so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. ¹⁸ But if ye are led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. ¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is this: Charity, joy, peace, tolerance, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ For those that are of the Christ have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
