¹ ¶ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that also those who do not obey the Word, may be won without a word by the conversation of their wives,

¹⁶ ¶ Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth sons; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

¹⁶ And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti, the queen, has not only committed iniquity against the king, but also against all the princes and against all the people that are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus. ¹⁷ For this deed of the queen shall be known abroad unto all the women so that they shall despise their husbands, saying, King Ahasuerus commanded Vashti, the queen, to be brought in before him, but she did not come. ¹⁸ And now the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the deed of the queen shall say this unto all the king’s princes, and there shall be much contempt and wrath. ¹⁹ If it pleases the king, let there go forth a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it not be altered, That Vashti come no more before King Ahasuerus, and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she. ²⁰ And this sentence which the king shall make shall be heard throughout all his empire, although it is great, and all the wives shall give their husbands honour, from the greatest to the least.

³⁰ ¶ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁹ ¶ A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city, and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

¹⁵ ¶ Therefore if thy brother shall sin against thee, go and reprove him between thee and him alone; if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

¹⁷ Thank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;

² For the woman who is subject to a husband is obligated to the law so long as the husband lives; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law of the husband.

¹⁶ But not everyone hearkens unto the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our report?

¹⁶ For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or what knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law; ²¹ to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some.

³ But I would have you know that the head of every man is the Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

³⁴ ¶ Let your women keep silence in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law.

²² Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife even as the Christ is head of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and it is he who gives saving health to the body. ²⁴ Therefore, as the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

³³ Nevertheless, let each one of you do likewise, let each one so love his wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she reverences her husband.

¹⁸ ¶ Wives, be subject to your own husbands as it is fit in the Lord.

⁵ ¶ Walk in wisdom towards outsiders, winning the occasion.

⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹¹ Let the woman learn, becoming silent in all subjection. ¹² For I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over a mature man, but to be at rest.

³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of honesty; ⁴ that they may teach the young women to be prudent, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed. ⁶ Young men likewise exhort to be temperate;

⁹ and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal saving health unto all those that hearken unto him,

⁸ By faith Abraham, being called, hearkened to go out into the place which he should afterwards receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he went.

¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone should convert him; ²⁰ let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

⁷ Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them wisely, giving honour unto the woman, as unto a more fragile vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers not be hindered.

¹⁷ For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God?
