¹ ¶ Now regarding spiritual things, brothers, I would not have you ignore them. ² Ye know that when ye were Gentiles, ye went, even as ye were led, unto the dumb idols. ³ Therefore I give you to understand, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus anathema and that no one can call Jesus Lord but by the Holy Spirit. ⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills. ¹² ¶ For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also the Christ. ¹³ For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Greeks, whether we are slaves or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. ¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear shall say, Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be? ¹⁸ But now God has set the members each one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where would the body be? ²⁰ But now they are indeed many members, yet but one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. ²² For those members of the body, which seem to be weaker, are much more necessary; ²³ and those members of the body which we think to be more vile, these we dress with more abundant honour; and those in us who are more indecent have more honesty. ²⁴ For those in us who are more honest need nothing, but God has ordered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that one which lacked, ²⁵ that there should be no contradiction in the body, but that the members should have the same care one for another. ²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice together. ²⁷ ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ and members in particular. ²⁸ And God did set certain ones in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}: first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that faculties, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? do all have faculties? ³⁰ Do all have gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? ³¹ But earnestly pursue the best gifts, and yet I show unto you a more excellent way.

²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves girdles.

¹¹ ¶ And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee not to eat?

²¹ ¶ Then the LORD God made coats of skins for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? ³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

³ and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and in intelligence and in science and in all manner of workmanship,

³¹ And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; for thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. ³² And it shall be, if thou go with us, that when we come into the goodness that the LORD shall do unto us, that we will do thee good.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. ²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp. ²⁷ And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp. ²⁸ Then Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. ²⁹ And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? It would be good that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

²³ his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt without fail bury him that same day (for he that is hanged is accursed of God) that thy land not be defiled, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

⁸ The trees went forth to anoint a king over them, and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us. ⁹ But the olive tree replied, Should I leave my fatness, which because of me, God and man are honoured, to go and sway over the trees? ¹⁰ And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou and reign over us. ¹¹ But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness and my good fruit to go and sway over the trees? ¹² Then the trees said unto the vine, Come thou and reign over us. ¹³ And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheers God and man, to go and sway over the trees? ¹⁴ Then all the trees said unto the bramble, Come thou and reign over us. ¹⁵ And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and confide under my shadow; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

¹⁰ And when they came there to the hill, behold, the company of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God prospered him, and he prophesied among them. ¹¹ And it came to pass when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets? ¹² And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore, it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets? ¹³ And he ceased prophesying and came to the high place.

²⁰ And Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. ²¹ And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. ²² Then he also went to Ramah and came to a great well that is in Sechu, and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah. ²³ And he went there to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. ²⁴ And he stripped off his clothes also and prophesied before Samuel in like manner and lay down naked all that day and all that night. From here it was said, Is Saul also among the prophets?

³² ¶ Then David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel who sent thee this day to meet me;

¹ ¶ Now these are the last words of David. David, the son of Jesse, said, and the man who was raised up high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet cantor of Israel, said, ² (The Spirit of the LORD has spoken by me, and his word has been in my tongue.

⁵ ¶ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, Ask what you wish that I shall give thee. ⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy slave David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment, ¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

⁹ And Jehoash, the king of Israel, sent to Amaziah, king of Judah, this reply, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife. And the wild beasts that were in Lebanon passed by and trode down the thistle.

¹ ¶ Now as Ezra prayed and confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children; and the people wept very sore. ² Then Shechaniah, the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have rebelled against our God and have taken strange women of the peoples of the land, but there is yet hope for Israel concerning this thing. ³ Now, therefore, let us make a covenant with our God to send away all the women and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord and of those that fear the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. ⁴ Arise; for this matter belongs unto thee; we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it. ⁵ Then Ezra arose and made the princes of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, swear that they should do according to this word. And they swore.

¹⁶ ¶ And it came to pass from that time forth that half of the young men wrought in the work, and the other half of them held spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail; and the princes were behind all the house of Judah. ¹⁷ Those that built on the wall and those that bore burdens and those that laded wrought with one hand in the work and with the other held a weapon. ¹⁸ For the builders, each one had his sword girded by his side, and so they built. And he that sounded the shofar was by me. ¹⁹ And I said unto the principals and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. ²⁰ In whatever place that you hear the voice of the shofar, join us there; our God shall fight for us. ²¹ So we laboured in the work, and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning until the stars appeared.

²⁰ Thou didst give thy good spirit to teach them and didst not withhold thy manna from their mouth and didst give them water for their thirst.

¹¹ When the ears that heard me, called me blessed; and when the eyes that saw me, gave witness to me:

⁸ Certainly there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.

²⁹ ¶ Behold, God does all these things two and three times with man,

⁹ He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

³ Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauty of holiness; as the dew which falls from the womb of the morning, thus shall those who are thine be born unto thee.

⁵ They have mouths, but they shall never speak; they have eyes, but they shall never see:

⁷ they have hands, but they shall never touch; they have feet, but they shall never walk; they shall never speak through their throat.

⁶ Whatever the LORD desired, he did in the heavens and in the earth, in the seas and in all the deep places.

¹⁶ They have a mouth, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

¹³ For thou hast possessed my kidneys: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. ¹⁴ I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works, and that, my soul knows right well. ¹⁵ My body was not hid from thee, even though I was made in secret and brought together in the lowest parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Thine eyes did see my substance yet being imperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which were then formed, without lacking one of them.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

²⁸ ¶ In the multitude of the people is the king’s glory, but in the failure of the people is the weakness of the prince.

¹² ¶ The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the LORD has made both of them.

⁹ Two are better than one because they have a better reward for their labour. ¹⁰ For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falls, for he has not another to help him up. ¹¹ Again, if two sleep together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone? ¹² And if one prevails against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

⁹ ¶ And there is higher authority in all of the things of the earth, but he who serves the field is king.

¹⁴ There was a little city and few men within it; and a great king came against it and besieged it and built great bulwarks against it; ¹⁵ now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no one remembered that same poor man.

¹ ¶ I came into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh and my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey; I have drunk my wine and my milk: eat, O friends; drink, beloved, drink abundantly.

² And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD, ³ and shall make him of quick olfaction in the fear of the LORD; and he shall not judge according to the sight of his eyes, neither reprove according to the hearing of his ears:

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek the waters that are not; their tongue fails for thirst; I the LORD will hear them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers in high places and fountains in the midst of the plains; I will turn the wilderness into pools of water and the dry land into springs of water.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thine offspring: ⁴ And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. ⁵ One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD and surname himself by the name of Israel.

⁷ They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him and set him in his place. There he is; he does not move from his place; they cry unto him, and neither does he answer, nor save from the tribulation.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

⁴ ¶ The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the wise that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakes up early, early shall he awaken my ear, that I might hear, as the wise.

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

²¹ And this shall be my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words, which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from now on and for ever.

⁵ They compare them to the palm tree, and they do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither do they have power to do good.

²⁵ ¶ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. ²⁶ And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my commandments, and ye shall keep my rights, and do them.

²¹ and it is he that changes the times and the opportunities; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise and knowledge unto those that know understanding:

³⁵ and all the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing; and in the army of heaven and in the inhabitants of the earth, he does according to his will; nor is there anyone who can interfere with his hand and say unto him, What doest thou?

²⁸ ¶ And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

¹⁴ And they cried unto the LORD and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for the soul of this man, and do not lay upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

¹⁸ Of what profit is the graven image that its maker has sculpted; the molten image, that teaches lies, so that in making dumb images the maker trusts in his work? ¹⁹ Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise! Can it ever teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.

¹⁵ The LORD of the hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink and make a noise as though drunk with wine; and they shall be filled like bowls and as the corners of the altar. ¹⁶ And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as a flock of his people, for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land. ¹⁷ For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! The wheat shall make the young men cheerful, and the wine the maids.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

⁸ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons; freely ye have received, freely give.

²⁶ Even so, Father, for thus it was pleasing in thy sight.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus apart and said, Why could not we cast him out? ²⁰ And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unfaithfulness; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

²¹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith and doubt not, ye shall not only do this to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.

⁴³ He said unto them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,

¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters, for one is your Master, the Christ.

¹⁴ ¶ For it is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own slaves and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each one according to his faculty, and straightway took his journey. ¹⁶ And after he was gone, he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same and made another five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he that had received two, he also gained another two. ¹⁸ But he that had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord’s money. ¹⁹ And after a long time the lord of those slaves came and reckoned accounts with them. ²⁰ And so he that had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, Lord, thou didst deliver unto me five talents; behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. ²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²² He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou didst deliver unto me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. ²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown and gathering where thou hast not scattered; ²⁵ therefore, I was afraid and went and hid thy talent in the earth; behold, thou hast what is thine. ²⁶ His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful slave, thou knewest that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered; ²⁷ therefore, it was expedient for thee to have put my money to the bankers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with interest. ²⁸ Take, therefore, the talent from him and give it unto him who has ten talents. ²⁹ For unto every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance, but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has. ³⁰ And cast ye the unprofitable slave into the outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

¹³ And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.

³⁹ But Jesus said, Forbid him not, for there is no one who does a miracle in my name that can then speak evil of me.

²² And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Remove thyself and cast thyself into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that what he says shall be done whatsoever he says shall be done unto him.

¹⁷ And these signs shall follow those that believe: In my name they shall cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; ¹⁸ they shall take away serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands upon the sick, and they shall be healed.

²⁰ And they, going forth, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word with the signs which followed them. Amen.

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you in water, but one mightier than I comes, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose; he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire;

¹⁴ Simon (whom he also named Peter) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

⁹ and heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come near unto you.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

⁴² but only one thing is necessary, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

³² Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁵ And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. ⁶ And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamore tree, Pluck thyself up by the root, and plant thyself in the sea, and it would obey you.

⁴⁹ And, behold, I shall send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye are endued with power from on high.

¹⁶ And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

³³ And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

⁸ The wind blows where it desires, and thou hearest the sound of it, but canst not tell from where it comes or where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹⁴ but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

¹⁷ ¶ But Jesus answered them, My Father works until now, and I work.

²¹ For as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life; even so the Son gives life unto whom he will.

⁶³ The Spirit is he that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken unto you, they are Spirit and they are life.

³⁷ ¶ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink. ³⁸ He that believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. ³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well, for so I am.

¹² ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes in me, the works that I do he shall do also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father.

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me;
