¹ ¶ And David made houses for himself in the city of David and prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

⁹ So David dwelt in the fortress and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

⁷ Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon’s house and make him something to eat. ⁸ So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house, and he was lying down. And she took flour and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked the cakes.

²⁴ But the king said, Let him go to his own house and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and did not see the king’s face.

³ And David gathered all Israel together in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD unto its place, which he had prepared for it.

¹ ¶ So they brought the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.

¹ ¶ Now it came to pass, as David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan, the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD under curtains. ² Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thy heart for God is with thee. ³ And it came to pass the same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, ⁴ Go and tell David my slave, Thus hath the LORD said, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in, ⁵ for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

⁵ until I find out a place for the LORD, a habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

⁴⁶ who found grace before God and asked to provide a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
