¹ Unto the end, for the sons of Core, to give understanding. ^(44:2) We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old.

²⁴ Thou shalt keep this thing as a law for thee and thy children for ever. ²⁵ And when you have entered into the land which the Lord will give you, as he hath promised, you shall observe these ceremonies. ²⁶ And when your children shall say to you: What is the meaning of this service? ²⁷ You shall say to them: It is the victim of the passage of the Lord, when he passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, striking the Egyptians, and saving our houses. And the people bowing themselves, adored.

¹⁴ And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What is this? thou shalt answer him: With a strong hand did the Lord bring us forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ¹⁵ For when Pharao was hardened, and would not let us go, the Lord slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of man to the firstborn of beasts: therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all that openeth the womb of the male sex, and all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.

¹⁴ Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord: As he did in the Red Sea, so will he do in the streams of Arnon. ¹⁵ The rocks of the torrents were bowed down that they might rest in Ar, and lie down in the borders of the Moabites. ¹⁶ When they went from that place, the well appeared whereof the Lord said to Moses: Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

²⁷ Therefore it is said in the proverb: Come into Hesebon, let the city of Sehon be built and set up: ²⁸ A fire is gone out of Hesebon, a flame from the city of Sehon, and hath consumed Ar of the Moabites, and the inhabitants of the high places of the Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to thee Moab: thou art undone, O people of Chamos. He hath given his sons to flight, and his daughters into captivity to Sehon the king of the Amorrhites. ³⁰ Their yoke is perished from Hesebon unto Dibon, they came weary to Nophe, and unto Medaba.

²⁰ And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What mean these testimonies, and ceremonies and judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded us?

¹³ And Gedeon said to him: I beseech thee, my lord, if the Lord be with us, why have these evils fallen upon us? Where are his miracles, which our fathers have told us of, saying: The Lord brought us out of Egypt but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hand of Madian.

⁸ For inquire of the former generation, and search diligently into the memory of the fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and are ignorant that our days upon earth are but a shadow

¹⁷ I will shew thee, hear me: and I will tell thee what I have seen. ¹⁸ Wise men confess and hide not their fathers. ¹⁹ To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger hath passed among them.

^{31 (22:32)} There shall be declared to the Lord a generation to come: and the heavens shall shew forth his justice to a people that shall be born, which the Lord hath made.

¹ Unto the end, understanding for the sons of Core. ^(42:2) As the hart panteth after the fountains of water; so my soul panteth after thee, O God.

¹⁸ And unto old age and grey hairs: O God, forsake me not, Until I shew forth thy arm to all the generation that is to come: Thy power,

³ How great things have we heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ They have not been hidden from their children, in another generation. Declaring the praises of the Lord, and his powers, and his wonders which he hath done. ⁵ And he set up a testimony in Jacob: and made a law in Israel. How great things he commanded our fathers, that they should make the same known to their children: ⁶ That another generation might know them. The children that should be born and should rise up, and declare them to their children.

¹ Give glory to the Lord, and call upon his name: declare his deeds among the Gentiles. ² Sing to him, yea sing praises to him: relate all his wondrous works.

¹⁹ The living, the living, he shall give praise to thee, as I do this day: the father shall make the truth known to the children.

³ Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
