¹ My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger,

⁹ I take the boy upon me, require him at my hand: unless I bring him again, and restore him to thee, I will be guilty of sin against thee for ever.

³² Let me be thy proper servant, who took him into my trust, and promised, saying: If I bring him not again, I will be guilty of sin against my father for ever. ³³ Therefore I, thy servant, will stay instead of the boy in the service of my lord, and let the boy go up with his brethren.

³ Deliver me, O Lord, and set me beside thee, and let any man's hand fight against me.

¹⁵ He shall be afflicted with evil, that is surety for a stranger: but he that is aware of snares, shall be secure.

¹⁸ A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.

¹⁶ Take away the garment of him that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge from him for strangers.

²⁶ Be not with them that fasten down their hands, and that offer themselves sureties for debts:

¹³ Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.

¹⁸ And if he hath wronged thee in any thing or is in thy debt, put that to my account. ¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee that thou owest me thy own self also.
