¹³ And the land shall be made desolate because of the inhabitants thereof, and for the fruit of their devices.

³³ And I will scatter you among the Gentiles: and I will draw out the sword after you. And your land shall be desert, and your cities destroyed. ³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths all the days of her desolation. When you shall be ³⁵ In the enemy's land, she shall keep a sabbath, and rest in the sabbaths of her desolation: because she did not rest in your sabbaths, when you dwelt therein. ³⁶ And as to them that shall remain of you I will send fear in their hearts in the countries of their enemies. The sound of a flying leaf shall terrify them: and they shall flee as it were from the sword. They shall fall, when no man pursueth them. ³⁷ And they shall every one fall upon their brethren as fleeing from wars: none of you shall dare to resist your enemies. ³⁸ You shall perish among the Gentiles: and an enemy's land shall consume you. ³⁹ And if of them also some remain, they shall pine away in their iniquities, in the land of their enemies: and they shall be afflicted for the sins of their fathers, and their own.

⁸ On the contrary, I have seen those who work iniquity, and sow sorrows, and reap them,

³¹ Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and shall be filled with their own devices.

²² His own iniquities catch the wicked, and he is fast bound with the ropes of his own sins.

³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands: and let her works praise her in the gates.

¹⁰ Say to the just man that it is well, for he shall eat the fruit of his doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked unto evil: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

¹¹ And I said: How long, O Lord? And he said: Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land shall be left desolate. ¹² And the Lord shall remove men far away, and she shall be multiplied that was left in the midst of the earth. ¹³ And there shall be still a tithing therein, and she shall turn, and shall be made a show as a turpentine tree, and as an oak that spreadeth its branches: that which shall stand therein, shall be a holy seed.

³ With desolation shall the earth be laid waste, and it shall be utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourned, and faded away, and is weakened: the world faded away, the height of the people of the earth is weakened. ⁵ And the earth is infected by the inhabitants thereof: because they have transgressed the laws, they have changed the ordinance, they have broken the everlasting covenant. ⁶ Therefore shall a curse devour the earth, and the inhabitants thereof shall sin: and therefore they that dwell therein shall be mad, and few men shall be left. ⁷ The vintage hath mourned, the vine hath languished away, all the merry have sighed. ⁸ The mirth of timbrels hath ceased, the noise of them that rejoice is ended, the melody of the harp is silent.

¹⁰ I am the Lord who search the heart, and prove the reins: who give to every one according to his way, and according to the fruit of his devices.

¹⁴ But I will visit upon you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the Lord: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof: and it shall devour all things round about it.

¹¹ And all this land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment: and all these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

¹⁹ Great in counsel, and incomprehensible in thought: whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the children of Adam, to render unto every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his devices.

^{26 (4:23)} But whereas he commanded, that the stump of the roots thereof, that is, of the tree, should be left: thy kingdom shall remain to thee, after thou shalt have known that power is from heaven. ^{27 (4:24)} Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to thee, and redeem thou thy sins with alms, and thy iniquities with works of mercy to the poor: perhaps he will forgive thy offences.

¹² Therefore because of you, Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be as a heap of stones, and the mountain of the temple as the high places of the forests.

¹³ And I therefore began to strike thee with desolation for thy sins.

²⁰ And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed about with an army, then know that the desolation thereof is at hand. ²¹ Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains: and those who are in the midst thereof depart out: and those who are in the countries not enter into it. ²² For these are the days of vengeance, that all things may be fulfilled, that are written. ²³ But woe to them that are with child and give suck in those days: for there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captives into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles till the times of the nations be fulfilled.

⁷ Be not deceived: God is not mocked. ⁸ For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit of the spirit shall reap life everlasting.
