⁴ They have overturned the way of the poor, and have oppressed together the meek of the earth.

¹⁴ The murderer riseth at the very break of day, he killeth the needy, and the poor man: but in the night he will be as a thief.

¹² Because I had delivered the poor man that cried out; and the fatherless, that had no helper.

²⁵ I wept heretofore for him that was afflicted, and my soul had compassion on the poor.

¹⁶ If I have denied to the poor what they desired, and have made the eyes of the widow wait:

¹ Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. ^(41:2) Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.

¹⁶ Because he remembered not to shew mercy,

¹⁶ He that oppresseth the poor, to increase his own riches, shall himself give to one that is richer, and shall be in need.

¹² In the joy of the just there is great glory: when the wicked reign, men are ruined.

²⁸ When the wicked rise up, men shall hide themselves: when they perish, the just shall be multiplied.

¹⁴ A generation that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.

² To oppress the poor in judgment, and do violence to the cause of the humble of my people: that widows might be their prey, and that they might rob the fatherless.

¹² That grieveth the needy and the poor, that taketh away by violence, that restoreth not the pledge, and that lifteth up his eyes to idols, that comitteth abomination:

¹⁸ As for his father, because he oppressed and offered violence to his brother, and wrought evil in the midst of his people, behold he is dead in his own iniquity.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and committed robbery: they afflicted the needy and poor, and they oppressed the stranger by calumny without judgment.

⁷ They bruise the heads of the poor upon the dust of the earth, and turn aside the way of the humble: and the son and his father have gone to the same young woman, to profane my holy name.

⁴ Hear this, you that crush the poor, and make the needy of the land to fail, ⁵ Saying: When will the month be over, and we shall sell our wares: and the sabbath, and we shall open the corn: that we may lessen the measure, and increase the sicle, and may convey in deceitful balances, ⁶ That we may possess the needy for money, and the poor for a pair of shoes, and may sell the refuse of the corn?

¹ Woe to you that devise that which is unprofitable, and work evil in your beds: in the morning light they execute it, because their hand is against God. ² And they have coveted fields, and taken them by violence, and houses they have forcibly taken away: and oppressed a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

⁴ Behold the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth: and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ You have feasted upon earth: and in riotousness you have nourished your hearts, in the day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned and put to death the Just One: and he resisted you not.
