¹⁴ The murderer riseth at the very break of day, he killeth the needy, and the poor man: but in the night he will be as a thief.

¹⁴ And when the morning was come, David wrote a letter to Joab: and sent it by the hand of Urias, ¹⁵ Writing in the letter: Set ye Urias in the front of the battle, where the fight is strongest: and leave ye him, that he may be wounded and die. ¹⁶ Wherefore as Joab was besieging the city, he put Urias in the place where he knew the bravest men were. ¹⁷ And the men coming out of the city, fought against Joab, and there fell some of the people of the servants of David, and Urias the Hethite was killed also.

⁸ He sitteth in ambush with the rich, in private places, that he may kill the innocent. ⁹ His eyes are upon the poor man: he lieth in wait, in secret, like a lion in his den. He lieth in ambush, that he may catch the poor man: so catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him. ¹⁰ In his net he will bring him down, he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.

¹ Woe to you that devise that which is unprofitable, and work evil in your beds: in the morning light they execute it, because their hand is against God. ² And they have coveted fields, and taken them by violence, and houses they have forcibly taken away: and oppressed a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

³⁹ But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch and would not suffer his house to be broken open.

⁷ Be ye not therefore partakers with them. ⁸ For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. ⁹ For the fruit of the light is in all goodness and justice and truth: ¹⁰ Proving what is well pleasing to God. ¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness: but rather reprove them.

² For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night.

³ Have in mind therefore in what manner thou hast received and heard: and observe and do penance: If then thou shalt not watch, I will come to thee as a thief: and thou shalt not know at what hour I will come to thee.
