¹³ They have been rebellious to the light, they have not known his ways, neither have they returned by his paths.

¹¹ My foot hath followed his steps, I have kept his way, and have not declined from it. ¹² I have not departed from the commandments of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hid in my bosom.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.

⁴⁷ And that servant, who knew the will of his lord and prepared not himself and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment: Because the light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doth evil hateth the light and cometh not to the light, that his works may not be reproved.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil: and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning: and he stood not in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

³⁹ And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world: that they who see not may see; and they who see may become blind. ⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while, the light is among you. Walk whilst you have the light, and the darkness overtake you not. And he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither be goeth.

⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart and be converted: and I should heal them.

⁶ If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch and shall wither: and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire: and he burneth.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He that hateth me hateth my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

³² Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death: and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

¹⁷ But if thou art called a Jew and restest in the law and makest thy boast of God, ¹⁸ And knowest his will and approvest the more profitable things, being instructed by the law: ¹⁹ Art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them that are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having the form of knowledge and of truth in the law. ²¹ Thou therefore, that teachest another, teachest not thyself: thou, that preachest that men should not steal, stealest. ²² Thou, that sayest men should not commit adultery, committest adultery: thou, that abhorrest idols, committest sacrilege: ²³ Thou, that makest thy boast of the law, by transgression of the law dishonourest God. ²⁴ (For the name of God through you is blasphemed among the Gentiles, as it is written.)

¹¹ There is none that understandeth: there is none that seeketh after God. ¹² All have turned out of the way: they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, there is not so much as one. ¹³ Their throat is an open sepulchre: with their tongues they have dealt deceitfully. The venom of asps is under their lips. ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: ¹⁵ Their feet swift to shed blood: ¹⁶ Destruction and misery in their ways: ¹⁷ And the way of peace they have not known.

¹⁰ And in all seduction of iniquity to them that perish: because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ^{11 (2:10)} Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying: ^{12 (2:11)} That all may be judged who have not believed the truth but have consented to iniquity.

¹⁷ To him therefore who knoweth to do good and doth it not, to him it is sin.

²⁰ For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice than, after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them. ²² For, that of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog is returned to his vomit; and: The sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

¹⁹ They went out from us but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us: but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us.

⁶ And the angels who kept not their principality but forsook their own habitation, he hath reserved under darkness in everlasting chains, unto the judgment of the great day.
