⁴⁰ Shall thy blessing be. Thou shalt live by the sword, and shalt serve thy brother: and the time shall come, when thou shalt shake off and loose his yoke from thy neck.

²³ And he answering, said: Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be divided out of thy womb, and one people shall overcome the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying: We came to Esau, thy brother, and behold he cometh with speed to meet thee with four hundred men.

¹⁴ And he put guards in Edom, and placed there a garrison: and all Edom was made to serve David: and the Lord preserved David in all enterprises he went about.

Then Lobna also revolted at the same time.

⁷ He slew of Edom in the valley of the Saltpits, ten thousand men, and took the rock by war, and called the name thereof Jectehel, unto this day.

¹⁰ Thou hast beaten and prevailed over Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up; be content with this glory, and sit at home; why provokest thou evil, that thou shouldst fall, and Juda with thee?

¹¹ And all the vessels of gold, and silver and brass king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and gold which he had taken from all the nations, as well from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, as from the Philistines, and from Amalec. ¹² And Abisai the son of Sarvia slew of the Edomites in the vale of the saltpits, eighteen thousand: ¹³ And he put a garrison in Edom, that Edom should serve David: and the Lord preserved David in all things to which he went.

⁸ In those days Edom revolted, from being subject to Juda, and made themselves a king.

¹⁰ However Edom revolted, from being under the dominion of Juda unto this day: at that time Lobna also revolted, from being under his hand. For he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers.

¹⁷ And the Edomites came and slew many of Juda, and took a great booty.

³⁴ Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.
