⁸ But if the woman will not follow thee, thou shalt not be bound by the oath: only bring not my son back thither again.

⁴ But that thou go to my own country and kindred, and take a wife from thence for my son Isaac. ⁵ The servant answered: If the woman will not come with me into this land, must I bring thy son back again to the place from whence thou camest out? ⁶ And Abraham said: Beware thou never bring my son back again thither.

^{5 (30:6)} But if her father, immediately as soon as he heard it, gainsaid it, both her vows and her oaths shall be void, neither shall she be bound to what she promised, because her father hath gainsaid it.

^{8 (30:9)} But if as soon as he heareth he gainsay it, and make her promises and the words wherewith she had bound her soul of no effect: the Lord will forgive her.

¹⁷ And they said to her: We shall be blameless of this oath, which thou hast made us swear, ¹⁸ If, when we come into the land, this scarlet cord be a sign, and thou tie it in the window, by which thou hast let us down: and gather together thy father and mother, and brethren, and all thy kindred into thy house. ¹⁹ Whosoever shall go out of the door of thy house, his blood shall be upon his own head, and we shall be quit. But the blood of all that shall be with thee in the house, shall light upon our head, if any man touch them. ²⁰ But if thou wilt betray us, and utter this word abroad, we shall be quit of this oath, which thou hast made us swear.

²⁰ But this we will do to them: Let their lives be saved, lest the wrath of the Lord be stirred up against us, if we should be forsworn:

³² And you shall know the truth: and the truth shall make you free.
