² And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters.

⁷ He stretched out the north over the empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

¹⁴ Lo, these things are said in part of his ways: and seeing we have heard scarce a little drop of his word, who shall be able to behold the thunder of his greatness?

⁶ By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:

³⁰ Thou shalt send forth thy spirit, and they shall be created: and thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

¹² Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and weighed the heavens with his palm? who hath poised with three fingers the bulk of the earth, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? ¹³ Who hath forwarded the spirit of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor, and hath taught him? ¹⁴ With whom hath he consulted, and who hath instructed him, and taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and shewed him the way of understanding?

¹⁸ For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens, God himself that formed the earth, and made it, the very maker thereof: he did not create it in vain: he formed it to be inhabited. I am the Lord, and there is no other.

²³ I beheld the earth, and lo it was void, and nothing: and the heavens, and there was no light in them.

¹⁰ She is destroyed, and rent, and torn: the heart melteth, and the knees fail, and all the loins lose their strength: and the faces of them all are as the blackness of a kettle.
