¹¹ And he said: let the earth bring forth green herb, and such as may seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its kind, which may have seed in itself upon the earth. And it was so done.

²⁹ And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat:

⁵ And every plant of the field before it sprung up in the earth, and every herb of the ground before it grew: for the Lord God had not rained upon the earth; and there was not a man to till the earth.

⁹ And the Lord God brought forth of the ground all manner of trees, fair to behold, and pleasant to eat of: the tree of life also in the midst of paradise: and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁶ And he commanded him, saying: Of every tree of paradise thou shalt eat:

⁵ The land, out of which bread grew in its place, hath been overturned with fire.

³ And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season. And his leaf shall not fall off: and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

The river of God is filled with water, thou hast prepared their food: for so is its preparation. ^{10 (65:11)} Fill up plentifully the streams thereof, multiply its fruits; it shall spring up and rejoice in its showers. ^{11 (65:12)} Thou shalt bless the crown of the year of thy goodness: and thy fields shall be filled with plenty. ^{12 (65:13)} The beautiful places of the wilderness shall grow fat: and the hills shall be girded about with joy, ^{13 (65:14)} The rams of the flock are clothed, and the vales shall abound with corn: they shall shout, yea they shall sing a hymn.

¹⁴ Bringing forth grass for cattle, and herb for the service of men. That thou mayst bring bread out of the earth: ¹⁵ And that wine may cheer the heart of man. That he may make the face cheerful with oil: and that bread may strengthen man's heart. ¹⁶ The trees of the field shall be filled, and the cedars of Libanus which he hath planted: ¹⁷ There the sparrows shall make their nests. The highest of them is the house of the heron.

⁸ Who covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth. Who maketh grass to grow on the mountains, and herbs for the service of men.

⁸ And he shall be as a tree that is planted by the waters, that spreadeth out its roots towards moisture: and it shall not fear when the heat cometh. And the leaf thereof shall be green, and in the time of drought it shall not be solicitous, neither shall it cease at any time to bring forth fruit.

¹⁰ For now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doth not yield good fruit, shall be cut down, and cast into the fire.

³⁰ And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith?

¹⁶ By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? ¹⁷ Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. ²⁰ Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

²⁸ For the earth of itself bringeth forth fruit, first the blade, then the ear, afterwards the full corn in the ear.

⁴³ For there is no good tree that bringeth forth evil fruit: nor an evil tree that bringeth forth good fruit. ⁴⁴ For every tree is known by its fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns: nor from a bramble bush do they gather the grape.

⁷ For the earth, that drinketh in the rain which cometh often upon it and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is tilled, receiveth blessing from God.

¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear grapes? Or the vine, figs? So neither can the salt water yield sweet.
