¹⁴ But I will judge the nation which they shall serve, and after this they shall come out with great substance.

¹ And Israel taking his journey, with all that he had, came to the well of the oath, and killing victims there to the God of his father Isaac, ² He heard him, by a vision in the night, calling him, and saying to him: Jacob, Jacob. And he answered him: Lo, here I am. ³ God said to him: I am the most mighty God of thy father; fear not, go down into Egypt, for I will make a great nation of thee there. ⁴ I will go down with thee thither, and will bring thee back again from thence: Joseph also shall put his hands upon thy eyes. ⁵ And Jacob rose up from the well of the oath: and his sons took him up, with their children and wives in the wagons, which Pharao had sent to carry the old man, ⁶ And all that he had in the land of Chanaan: and he came into Egypt with all his seed; ⁷ His sons, and grandsons, daughters, and all his offspring together. ⁸ And these are the names of the children of Israel, that entered into Egypt, he and his children. All the souls of her sons and daughters, thirty-three. ¹⁶ The sons of Gad: Sephion and Haggi, and Suni and Esebon, and Heri and Arodi, and Areli. ¹⁷ The sons of Aser: Jamne and Jesua, and Jessuri and Beria, and Sara their sister. The sons of Beria: Heber and Melchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zelpha, whom Laban gave to Lia, his daughter. And these she bore to Jacob, sixteen souls. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And sons were born to Joseph, in the land of Egypt, whom Aseneth, the daughter of Putiphare, priest of Heliopolis, bore him: Manasses and Ephraim. ²¹ The sons of Benjamin: Bela and Bechor, and Asbel and Gera, and Naaman and Echi, and Ross and Mophim, and Ophim and Ared. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, whom she bore to Jacob: all the souls, fourteen. ²³ The sons of Dan: Husim. ²⁴ The sons of Nephthali: Jaziel and Guni, and Jeser and Sallem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bala, whom Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter: and these she bore to Jacob: all the souls, seven. ²⁶ All the souls that went with Jacob into Egypt, and that came out of his thigh, besides his sons' wives, sixty-six. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph, that were born to him in the land of Egypt, two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, that entered into Egypt, were seventy. ²⁸ And he sent Juda before him to Joseph, to tell him; and that he should meet him in Gessen. ²⁹ And when he was come thither, Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet his father in the same place: and seeing him, he fell upon his neck, and embracing him, wept. ³⁰ And the father said to Joseph: Now shall I die with joy, becuase I have seen thy face, and leave thee alive. ³¹ And Joseph said to his brethren, and to all his father's house: I will go up, and will tell Pharao, and will say to him: My brethren, and my father's house, that were in the land of Chanaan, are come to me: ³² And the men are shepherds, and their occupation is to feed cattle; their flocks, and herds, and all they have, they have brought with them. ³³ And when he shall call you, and shall say: What is your occupation? ³⁴ You shall answer: We, thy servants, are shepherds, from our infancy until now, both we and our fathers. And this you shall say, that you may dwell in the land of Gessen, because the Egyptians have all shepherds in abomination.

²¹ And I will give favour to this people, in the sight of the Egyptians: and when you go forth, you shall not depart empty: ²² But every woman shall ask of her neighbour, and of her that is in her house, vessels of silver and of gold, and raiment: and you shall put them on your sons and daughters, and shall spoil Egypt.

⁵ I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, wherewith the Egyptians have oppressed them: and I have remembered my covenant. ⁶ Therefore say to the children of lsrael: I am the Lord who will bring you out from the work-prison of the Egyptians, and will deliver you from bondage: and redeem you with a high arm, and great judgments.

¹ And the Lord said to Moses: Behold, I have appointed thee the god of Pharao; and Aaron, thy brother, shall be thy prophet. ² Thou shalt speak to him all that I command thee; and he shall speak to Pharao, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land. ³ But I shall harden his heart, and shall multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. ⁴ And he will not hear you: and I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and will bring forth my army and my people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt, by very great judgments. ⁵ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, who have stretched forth my hand upon Egypt, and have brought forth the children of Israel out of the midst of them. ⁶ And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord had commanded; so did they. ⁷ And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty- three, when they spoke to Pharao. ⁸ And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: ⁹ When Pharao shall say to you, Shew signs; thou shalt say to Aaron: Take thy rod, and cast it down before Pharao, and it shall be turned into a serpent. ¹⁰ So Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharao, and did as the Lord had commanded. And Aaron took the rod before Pharao and his servants, and it was turned into a serpent. ¹¹ And Pharao called the wise men and the magicians; and they also by Egyptian enchantments and certain secrets, did in like manner. ¹² And they every one cast down their rods, and they were turned into serpents: but Aaron's rod devoured their rods. ¹³ And Pharao's heart was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, as the Lord had commanded. ¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses: Pharao's heart is hardened, he will not let the people go.

³² Your sheep and herds take along with you, as you demanded, and departing bless me. ³³ And the Egyptians pressed the people to go forth out of the land speedily, saying: We shall all die. ³⁴ The people therefore took dough before it was leavened; and tying it in their cloaks, put it on their shoulders. ³⁵ And the children of Israel did as Moses had commanded: and they asked of the Egyptians vessels of silver and gold, and very much raiment. ³⁶ And the Lord gave favour to the people in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them: and they stripped the Egyptians. ³⁷ And the children of Israel set forward from Ramesse to Socoth, being about six hundred thousand men on foot, beside children. ³⁸ And a mixed multitude, without number, went up also with them, sheep and herds, and beasts of divers kinds, exceeding many.

²⁰ But the Lord hath taken you and brought you out of the iron furnaces of Egypt, to make you his people of inheritance, as it is this present day.

²² And he wrought signs and wonders great and very grievous in Egypt against Pharao, and all his house, in our sight,

¹⁸ Fear not, but remember what the Lord thy God did to Pharao and to all the Egyptians, ¹⁹ The exceeding great plagues, which thy eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched out arm, with which the Lord thy God brought thee out: so will he do to all the people, whom thou fearest.

² Know this day the things that your children know not, who saw not the chastisements of the Lord your God, his great doings and strong hand, and stretched out arm, ³ The signs and works which he did in the midst of Egypt to king Pharao, and to all his land, ⁴ And to all the host of the Egyptians, and to their horses and chariots: how the waters of the Red Sea covered them, when they pursued you, and how the Lord destroyed them until this present day:

⁴ And gave him Isaac: and to him again I gave Jacob and Esau. And I gave to Esau mount Seir for his possession: but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. ⁵ And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt with many signs and wonders. ⁶ And I brought you and your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea: and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen, as far as the Red Sea. ⁷ And the children of Israel cried to the Lord: and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them. Your eyes saw all that I did in Egypt, and you dwelt in the wilderness a long time.

¹⁷ The Lord our God he brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage: and did very great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way by which we journeyed, and among all the people through whom we passed.

⁸ How Jacob went into Egypt, and your fathers cried to the Lord: and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

⁹ And thou sawest the affliction of our fathers in Egypt: and thou didst hear their cry by the Red Sea. ¹⁰ And thou shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharao, and upon all his servants, and upon the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them: and thou madest thyself a name, as it is at this day. ¹¹ And thou didst divide the sea before them, and they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land: but their persecutors thou threwest into the depth, as a stone into mighty waters.

⁴³ How he wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Tanis. ⁴⁴ And he turned their rivers into blood, and their showers that they might not drink. ⁴⁵ He sent amongst them divers sorts of flies, which devoured them: and frogs which destroyed them. ⁴⁶ And he gave up their fruits to the blast, and their labours to the locust. ⁴⁷ And he destroyed their vineyards with hail, and their mulberry trees with hoarfrost. ⁴⁸ And he gave up their cattle to the hail, and their stock to the fire. ⁴⁹ And he sent upon them the wrath of his indignation: indignation and wrath and trouble, which he sent by evil angels. ⁵⁰ He made a way for a path to his anger: he spared not their souls from death, and their cattle he shut up in death. ⁵¹ And he killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt: the firstfruits of all their labour in the tabernacles of Cham.

²⁷ He gave them power to shew them signs, and his wonders in the land of Cham. ²⁸ He sent darkness, and made it obscure: and grieved not his words. ²⁹ He turned their waters into blood, and destroyed their fish. ³⁰ Their land brought forth frogs, in the inner chambers of their kings. ³¹ He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies and sciniphs in all their coasts. ³² He gave them hail for rain, a burning fire in the land. ³³ And he destroyed their vineyards and their fig trees: and he broke in pieces the trees of their coasts. ³⁴ He spoke, and the locust came, and the bruchus, of which there was no number. ³⁵ And they devoured all the grass in their land, and consumed all the fruit of their ground. ³⁶ And he slew all the firstborn in their land: the firstfruits of all their labour. ³⁷ And he brought them out with silver and gold: and there was not among their tribes one that was feeble.

⁹ He sent forth signs and wonders in the midst of thee, O Egypt: upon Pharao, and upon all his servants.

¹⁴ For the Lord will judge his people, and will be entreated in favour of his servants.
