²² Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel? saying: The days shall be prolonged, and every vision shall fail.

¹⁹ That say: Let him make haste, and let his work come quickly, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel come, that we may know it.

¹² They have denied the Lord, and said, It is not he: and the evil shall not come upon us: we shall not see the sword and famine. ¹³ The prophets have spoken in the wind, and there was no word of God in them: these things therefore shall befall them.

³³ If therefore this people, or the prophet, or the priest shall ask thee, saying: What is the burden of the Lord? thou shalt say to them: You are the burden: for I will cast you away, saith the Lord. ³⁴ And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people that shall say: The burden of the Lord: I will visit upon that man, and upon his house. ³⁵ Thus shall you say every one to his neighbour, and to his brother, What hath the Lord answered? and what hath the Lord spoken? ³⁶ And the burden of the Lord shall be mentioned no more, for every man's word shall be his burden: for you have perverted the words of the living God, of the Lord of hosts our God. ³⁷ Thus shalt thou say to the prophet: What hath the Lord answered thee? and what hath the Lord spoken? ³⁸ But if you shall say: The burden of the Lord: therefore thus saith the Lord: Because you have said this word: The burden of the Lord: and I have sent to you, saying: Say not, The burden of the Lord: ³⁹ Therefore behold I will take you away carrying you, and will forsake you, and the city which I gave to you, and to your fathers, out of my presence. ⁴⁰ And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame which shall never be forgotten.

³ Saying: Were not houses lately built? This city is the caldron, and we the flesh.

²⁷ Son of man, behold the house of Israel, they that say: The visions that this man seeth, is for many days to come: and this man prophesieth of times afar off.

⁴⁴ Behold every one that useth a common proverb, shall use this against thee, saying: As the mother was, so also is her daughter.

² That you use among you this parable as a proverb in the land of Israel, saying: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge. ³ As I live, saith the Lord God, this parable shall be no more to you a proverb in Israel.

³ You that are separated unto the evil day: and that approach to the throne of iniquity;

³ Knowing this first: That in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts, ⁴ Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? For since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
