¹ Now Moses fed the sheep of Jethro, his father in law, the priest of Madian: and he drove the flock to the inner parts of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, Horeb.

¹⁶ And the priest of Madian had seven daughters, who came to draw water: and when the troughs were filled, desired to water their father's flocks.

¹⁸ And when they returned to Raguel their father, he said to them: Why are ye come sooner than usual?

²¹ And Moses swore that he would dwell with him. And he took Sephora his daughter to wife:

⁵ And he said: Come not nigh hither, put off the shoes from thy feet; for the place, whereon thou standest, is holy ground.

²⁷ And the Lord said to Aaron: Go into the desert to meet Moses. And he went forth to meet him in the mountain of God, and kissed him.

⁶ Behold I will stand there before thee, upon the rock Horeb, and thou shalt strike the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. Moses did so before the ancients of Israel:

¹ And when Jethro the priest of Madian, the kinsman of Moses, had heard all the things that God had done to Moses, and to Israel his people, and that the Lord had brought forth Israel out of Egypt: ² He took Sephora, the wife of Moses, whom he had sent back: ³ And her two sons, of whom one was called Gersam: his father saying, I have been a stranger in a foreign country. ⁴ And the other Eliezer: For the God of my father, said he, is my helper, and hath delivered me from the sword of Pharao. ⁵ And Jethro, the kinsman of Moses, came with his sons, and his wife to Moses into the desert, where he was camped by the mountain of God. ⁶ And he sent word to Moses, saying: I Jethro, thy kinsman, come to thee, and thy wife, and thy two sons with her.

³ And Moses went up to God; and the Lord called unto him from the mountain, and said: Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

¹¹ And let them be ready against the third day; for on the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people, upon Mount Sinai.

¹³ Moses rose up, and his minister Josue: and Moses going up into the mount of God,

¹⁵ And when Moses was gone up, a cloud covered the mount. ¹⁶ And the glory of the Lord dwelt upon Sinai, covering it with a cloud six days: and the seventh day he called him out of the midst of the cloud. ¹⁷ And the sight of the glory of the Lord, was like a burning fire upon the top of the mount, in the eyes of the children of Israel.

²⁹ And Moses said to Hobab the son of Raguel the Madianite, his kinsman: We are going towards the place which the Lord will give us: come with us, that we may do thee good: for the Lord hath promised good things to Israel.

⁶ The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: You have stayed long enough in this mountain:

¹⁰ From the day in which thou didst stand before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord spoke to me, saying: Call together the people unto me, that they may hear my words, and may learn to fear me all the time that they live on the earth, and may teach their children. ¹¹ Now Haber, the Cinite, had some time before departed from the rest of the Cinites, his brethren, the sons of Hobab, the kinsman of Moses: and had pitched his tents unto the valley, which is called Sennim, and was near Cedes.

⁸ And he arose, and ate and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb.

⁷⁰ And he chose his servant David, and took him from the flocks of sheep: he brought him from following the ewes great with young, ⁷¹ To feed Jacob his servant and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² And he fed them in the innocence of his heart: and conducted them by the skilfulness of his hands.

¹⁹ They made also a calf in Horeb: and they adored the graven thing.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Thecua: which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Ozias king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joas king of Israel two years before the earthquake.

¹⁴ And Amos answered and said to Amasias: I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet: but I am a herdsman plucking wild figs. ¹⁵ And the Lord took me when I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me: Go, prophesy to my people Israel.

⁴ Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the precepts, and judgments.

¹⁸ And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers). ¹⁹ And he saith to them: Come ye after me, and I will make you to be fishers of men.

⁸ And there were in the same country shepherds watching and keeping the night watches over their flock.
