³ Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.

¹¹ Who is like to thee, among the strong, O Lord? who is like to thee, glorious in holiness, terrible and praise-worthy, doing wonders?

²³ You shall not make gods of silver, nor shall you make to yourselves gods of gold.

⁷ Thou shalt not have strange gods in my sight.

⁵ Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole strength.

¹⁴ You shall not go after the strange gods of all the nations, that are round about you:

¹⁸ And he hath cast out all the nations, the Amorrhite the inhabitant of the land into which we are come. Therefore we will serve the Lord, for he is our God. ¹⁹ And Josue said to the people: You will not be able to serve the Lord: for he is a holy God, and mighty and jealous, and will not forgive your wickedness and sins. ²⁰ If you leave the Lord, and serve strange gods, he will turn, and will afflict you, and will destroy you after all the good he hath done you. ²¹ And the people said to Josue: No, it shall not be so as thou sayest, but we will serve the Lord. ²² And Josue said to the people, You are witnesses, that you yourselves have chosen you the Lord to serve him. And they answered: We are witnesses. ²³ Now therefore, said he, put away strange gods from among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord the God of Israel. ²⁴ And the people said to Josue: We will serve the Lord our God, and we will be obedient to his commandments.

²⁹ And every nation made gods of their own and put them in the temples of the high places, which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities where they dwelt. ³⁰ For the men of Babylon made Sochothbenoth: and the Cuthites made Nergel: and the men of Emath made Asima. ³¹ And the Hevites made Nebahaz, and Tharthac. And they that were of Sepharvaim burnt their children in fire, to Adramelech and Anamelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. ³² And nevertheless they worshipped the Lord. And they made to themselves, of the lowest of the people, priests of the high places, and they placed them in the temples of the high places. ³³ And when they worshipped the Lord, they served also their own gods, according to the custom of the nations out of which they were brought to Samaria: ³⁴ Unto this day they follow the old manner: they fear not the Lord, neither do they keep his ceremonies, and judgments, and law, and the commandment, which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he surnamed Israel: ³⁵ With whom he made a covenant, and charged them, saying: You shall not fear strange gods, nor shall you adore them, nor worship them, nor sacrifice to them.

² Bring to the Lord glory and honour: bring to the Lord glory to his name: adore ye the Lord in his holy court.

²⁵ For what have I in heaven? and besides thee what do I desire upon earth?

⁴ You have hoped in the Lord for evermore, in the Lord God mighty for ever.

¹⁰ You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know, and believe me, and understand that I myself am. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there shall be none.

⁸ Fear ye not, neither be ye troubled from that time I have made thee to hear, and have declared: you are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me, a maker, whom I have not known?

²¹ Tell ye, and come, and consult together: who hath declared this from the beginning, who hath foretold this from that time? Have not I the Lord, and there is no God else besides me? A just God and a saviour, there is none besides me. ²² Be converted to me, and you shall be saved, all ye ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is no other.

⁹ Remember the former age, for I am God, and there is no God beside, neither is there the like to me:

⁶ And go not after strange gods to serve them, and adore them: nor provoke me to wrath by the works of your hands, and I will not afflict you.

¹⁵ And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way, and make your ways good: and follow not strange gods, nor worship them, and you shall dwell in the land, which I gave you and your fathers: and you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.

¹⁰ Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁴ But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that there is no God but one.

⁶ Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him: and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

⁵ For know you this and understand: That no fornicator or unclean or covetous person (which is a serving of idols) hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things.

¹⁸ Let no man seduce you, willing in humility and religion of angels, walking in the things which he hath not seen, in vain puffed up by the sense of his flesh:

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal. ²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

¹⁰ And I fell down before his feet, to adore him. And he saith to me: See thou do it not. I am thy fellow servant and of thy brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Adore God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

⁹ And he said to me: See thou do it not. For I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets and of them that keep the words of the prophecy of this book. Adore God.
