¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury: but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit,

²¹ And drinking of the wine was made drunk, and was uncovered in his tent.

³² Come, let us make him drunk with wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. ³³ And they made their father drink wine that night: and the elder went in, and lay with her father: but he perceived not, neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up. ³⁴ And the next day the elder said to the younger: Behold I lay last night with my father, let us make him drink wine also to night, and thou shalt lie with him, that we may save seed of our father. ³⁵ They made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and lay with him: and neither then did he perceive when she lay down, nor when she rose up.

²⁰ And shall say to them: This our son is rebellious and stubborn, he slighteth hearing our admonitions, he giveth himself to revelling, and to debauchery and banquetings:

¹ Wine is a luxurious thing, and drunkenness riotous: whosoever is delighted therewith, shall not be wise.

²⁰ Be not in the feasts of great drinkers, nor in their revellings, who contribute flesh to eat: ²¹ Because they that give themselves to drinking, and that club together, shall be consumed: and drowsiness shall be clothed with rags.

²⁹ Who hath woe? whose father hath woe? who hath contentions? who falls into pits? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? ³⁰ Surely they that pass their time in wine, and study to drink off their cups. ³¹ Look not upon the wine when it is yellow, when the colour thereof shineth in the glass: it goeth in pleasantly, ³² But in the end, it will bite like a snake, and will spread abroad poison like a basilisk. ³³ Thy eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ And thou shalt be as one sleeping in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot fast asleep when the stern is lost. ³⁵ And thou shalt say: They have beaten me, but I was not sensible of pain: they drew me, and I felt not: when shall I awake and find wine again?

^{4 (1:3)} Draw me: we will run after thee to the odour of thy ointments. The king hath brought me into his storerooms: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, remembering thy breasts more than wine: the rightous love thee.

⁹ Thy throat like the best wine, worthy for my beloved to drink, and for his lips and his teeth to ruminate.

¹¹ Woe to you that rise up early in the morning to follow drunkenness, and to drink in the evening, to be inflamed with wine. ¹² The harp, and the lyre, and, the timbrel and the pipe, and wine are in your feasts: and the work of the Lord you regard not, nor do you consider the works of his hands. ¹³ Therefore is my people led away captive, because they had not knowledge, and their nobles have perished with famine, and their multitude were dried up with thirst.

²² Woe to you that are mighty to drink wine, and stout men at drunkenness.

⁶ And the Lord of hosts shall make unto all people in this mountain, a feast of fat things, a feast of wine, of fat things full of marrow, of wine purified from the lees.

¹ All you that thirst, come to the waters: and you that have no money make haste, buy, and eat: come ye, buy wine and milk without money, and without any price.

¹⁵ The Lord of hosts will protect them: and they shall devonr, and subdue with the stones of the sling: and drinking they shall be inebriated as it were with wine, and they shall be filled as bowls, and as the horns of the altar. ¹⁶ And the Lord their God will save them in that day, as the flock of his people: for holy stones shall be lifted up over his land. ¹⁷ For what is the good thing of him, and what is his beautiful thing, but the corn of the elect, and wine springing forth virgins?

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you make clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within you are full of rapine and uncleanness.

⁴⁹ And shall begin to strike his fellow servants and shall eat and drink with drunkards:

¹⁵ For he shall be great before the Lord and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

¹³ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the good Spirit to them that ask him?

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart: My Lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the men-servants and maid-servants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk:

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and the cares of this life: and that day come upon you suddenly.

¹³ But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine. ¹⁴ But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you and with your ears receive my words. ¹⁵ For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day: ¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel: ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord), I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. ¹⁸ And upon my servants indeed and upon my handmaids will I pour out in those days of my spirit: and they shall prophesy.

²⁴ For he was a good man and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy.

¹¹ But now I have written to you, not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator or covetous or a server of idols or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner: with such a one, not so much as to eat.

¹⁰ Nor the effeminate nor liers with mankind nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor railers nor extortioners shall possess the kingdom of God.

²¹ For every one taketh before his own supper to eat. And one indeed is hungry and another is drunk.

²¹ Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity, ²³ Mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences. ²⁵ If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.

⁶ If any be without crime, the husband of one wife. having faithful children, not accused of riot or unruly.

³ For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings and unlawful worshipping of idols. ⁴ Wherein they think it strange that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness: speaking evil of you.
