² Though they go down even to hell, thence shall my hand bring them out: and though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down.

⁶ If his pride mount up even to heaven, and his head touch the clouds:

⁶ Hell is naked before him, and there is no covering for destruction.

⁷ Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face? ⁸ If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present. ⁹ If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea: ¹⁰ Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.

¹⁹ And they shall go into the holes of rocks, and into the caves of the earth from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.

¹³ And thou saidst in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, I will sit in the mountain of the covenant, in the sides of the north. ¹⁴ I will ascend above the height of the clouds, I will be like the most High. ¹⁵ But yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, into the depth of the pit. ¹⁶ They that shall see thee, shall turn toward thee, and behold thee. Is this the man that troubled the earth, that shook kingdoms,

¹⁶ Thy arrogancy hath deceived thee, and the pride of thy heart: O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, and endeavourest to lay hold on the height of the hill: but though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as an eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

⁵³ If Babylon should mount up to heaven, and establish her strength on high: from me there should come spoilers upon her, saith the Lord.

¹³ Thou wast in the pleasures of the paradise of God: every precious stone was thy covering: the sardius, the topaz, and the jasper, the chrysolite, and the onyx, and the beryl, the sapphire, and the carbuncle, and the emerald: gold the work of thy beauty: and thy pipes were prepared in the day that thou wast created. ¹⁴ Thou a cherub stretched out, and protecting, and I set thee in the holy mountain of God, thou hast walked in the midst of the stones of fire. ¹⁵ Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day of thy creation, until iniquity was found in thee. ¹⁶ By the multitude of thy merchandise, thy inner parts were filled with iniquity, and thou hast sinned: and I cast thee out from the mountain of God, and destroyed thee, O covering cherub, out of the midst of the stones of fire.

⁴ Though thou be exalted as an eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars: thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.

¹⁸ And he said to them: I saw Satan like lightning falling from heaven.
