³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

⁹ And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.

² The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.

⁶ But I am appointed king by him over Sion, his holy mountain, preaching his commandment.

^{7 (45:8)} Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

² And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom, and of understanding, the spirit of counsel, and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge, and of godliness.

¹ Behold my servant, I will uphold him: my elect, my soul delighteth in him: I have given my spirit upon him, he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

¹ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me: he hath sent me to preach to the meek, to heal the contrite of heart, and to preach a release to the captives, and deliverance to them that are shut up. ² To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all that mourn: ³ To appoint to the mourners of Sion, and to give them a crown for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, a garment of praise for the spirit of grief: and they shall be called in it the mighty ones of justice, the planting of the Lord to glorify him.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom: and healing all manner of sickness and every infirmity, among the people. ²⁴ And his fame went throughout all Syria, and they presented to him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and such as were possessed by devils, and lunatics, and those that had the palsy, and he cured them: ²⁵ And much people followed him from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

³⁵ And Jesus went about all the cities and towns, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease, and every infirmity.

¹⁵ But Jesus knowing it, retired from thence: and many followed him, and he healed them all.

²⁸ But if I by the Spirit of God cast out devils, then is the kingdom of God come upon you.

²¹ And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coast of Tyre and Sidon. ²² And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grievously troubled by a devil. ²³ Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us: ²⁴ And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep, that are lost of the house of Israel. ²⁵ But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. ²⁶ Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs. ²⁷ But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. ²⁸ Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour. ²⁹ And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee: and going up into a mountain, he sat there. ³⁰ And there came to him great multitudes, having with them the dumb, the blind, the lame, the maimed, and many others: and they cast them down at his feet, and he healed them: ³¹ So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

³⁸ And he saith to them: Let us go into the neighbouring towns and cities, that I may preach there also; for to this purpose am I come. ³⁹ And he was preaching in their synagogues and in all Galilee and casting out devils.

⁷ But Jesus retired with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee and Judea, ⁸ And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea and from beyond the Jordan. And they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing the things which he did, came to him. ⁹ And he spoke to his disciples that a small ship should wait on him, because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. ¹⁰ For he healed many, so that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had evils. ¹¹ And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him: and they cried, saying:

¹³ And Jesus immediately gave them leave. And the unclean spirits going out, entered into the swine: and the herd with great violence was carried headlong into the sea, being about two thousand, were stifled in the sea. ¹⁴ And they that fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the fields. And they went out to see what was done: ¹⁵ And they came to Jesus, and they see him that was troubled with the devil, sitting, clothed, and well in his wits, and they were afraid.

⁶ And he wondered because of their unbelief, and he went through the villages round about teaching.

⁵⁴ And when they were gone out of the ship, immediately they knew him: ⁵⁵ And running through that whole country, they began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. ⁵⁶ And whithersoever he entered, into towns or into villages or cities, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch but the hem of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

²⁹ And he said to her: For this saying, go thy way. The devil is gone out of thy daughter. ³⁰ And when she was come into her house, she found the girl lying upon the bed and that the devil was gone out.

²² And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape, as a dove, upon him. And a voice came from heaven: Thou art my beloved Son. In thee I am well pleased.

³³ And in the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean devil: and he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ Saying: Let us alone. What have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God. ³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying: Hold thy peace and go out of him. And when the devil had thrown him into the midst, he went out of him and hurt him not at all. ³⁶ And there came fear upon all; and they talked among themselves, saying: What word is this, for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out?

¹⁰ And they who were sent, being returned to the house, found the servant whole who had been sick. ¹¹ And it came to pass afterwards that he went into a city that is called Naim: and there went with him his disciples and a great multitude. ¹² And when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold a dead man was carried out, the only son of his mother: and she was a widow. And a great multitude of the city was with her. ¹³ Whom when the Lord had seen, being moved with mercy towards her, he said to her: Weep not. ¹⁴ And he came near and touched the bier. And they that carried it stood still. And he said: Young man, I say to thee, arise. ¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up and begun to speak. And he gave him to his mother. ¹⁶ And there came a fear upon them all: and they glorified God saying: A great prophet is risen up among us: and, God hath visited his people. ¹⁷ And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea and throughout all the country round about.

²¹ (And in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases and hurts and evil spirits: and to many that were blind he gave sight.) ²² And answering, he said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, to the poor the gospel is preached. ²³ And blessed is he whosoever shall not be scandalized in me.

⁴² And as he was coming to him, the devil threw him down and tore him.

⁵⁶ The Son of man came not to destroy souls, but to save. And they went into another town.

² This man came to Jesus by night and said to him: Rabbi, we know that thou art come a teacher from God; for no man can do these signs which thou dost, unless God be with him.

³⁴ For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God doth not give the Spirit by measure.

²⁷ Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that which endureth unto life everlasting, which the Son of man will give you. For him hath God, the Father, sealed.

³² Jesus answered them: Many good works I have shewed you from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?

³⁶ Do you say of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world: Thou blasphemest; because I said: I am the Son of God? ³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. ³⁸ But if I do, though you will not believe me, believe the works: that you may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in the Father.

³² Behold, the hour cometh, and it is now come, that you shall be scattered every man to his own and shall leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know:

²⁶ The kings of the earth stood up: and the princes assembled together against the Lord and his Christ. ²⁷ For of a truth there assembled together in this city against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel,

⁹ Thou hast loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

¹⁴ Therefore because the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner hath been partaker of the same: that, through death, he might destroy him who had the empire of death, that is to say, the devil: ¹⁵ And might deliver them, who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to servitude.

⁸ Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.

⁸ He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
