⁷ And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man, of whom we may ask the will of the Lord: but I hate him, for he never prophesieth good to me, but always evil: and it is Micheas the son of Jemla. And Josaphat said: Speak not thus, O king.

⁴ For when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, he took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water.

¹⁷ And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel?

¹⁰ And he answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant: they have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets with the sword, and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it away.

⁴² And he said to him: Thus saith the Lord. Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man worthy of death, thy life shall be for his life, and thy people for his people. ⁴³ And the king of Israel returned to his house, slighting to hear, and raging came into Samaria.

²⁰ And Achab said to Elias: Hast thou found me thy enemy? He said: I have found thee because thou art sold, to do evil in the sight of the Lord.

²² And when Joram saw Jehu, he said: Is there peace, Jehu? And he answered: What peace? so long as the fornications of Jezabel, thy mother, and her many sorceries, are in their vigour.

¹³ And Micheas answered him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever my God shall say to me, that will I speak.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel: and thou shalt hear the word out of my mouth, and shalt tell it them from me. ¹⁸ If, when I say to the wicked, Thou shalt surely die: thou declare it not to him, nor speak to him, that he may be converted from his wicked way, and live: the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand. ¹⁹ But if thou give warning to the wicked, and he be not converted from his wickedness, and from his evil way: he indeed shall die in his iniquity, but thou hast delivered thy soul.

¹⁰ They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly.

⁷ The house of Jacob saith: Is the Spirit of the Lord straitened or are these his thoughts? Are not my words good to him that walketh uprightly?

¹⁸ For John said to Herod: It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife. ¹⁹ Now Herodias laid snares for him: and was desirous to put him to death and could not.

²⁷ But sending an executioner, he commanded that his head should be brought in a dish.

²² Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

⁷ The world cannot hate you: but me it hateth, because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil,

¹⁸ If the world hate you, know ye that it hath hated me before you. ¹⁹ If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

²⁶ Wherefore I take you to witness this day that I am clear from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not spread to declare unto you all, the counsel of God.

¹⁶ Am I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
