²³ Do not still drink water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thy frequent infirmities.

⁹ You shall not drink wine nor any thing that may make drunk, thou nor thy sons, when you enter into the tabernacle of the testimony, lest you die. Because it is an everlasting precept; through your generations: ¹⁰ And that you may have knowledge to discern between holy and unholy, between unclean and clean: ¹¹ And may teach the children of Israel all my ordinances which the Lord hath spoken to them by the hand of Moses.

¹⁵ And that wine may cheer the heart of man. That he may make the face cheerful with oil: and that bread may strengthen man's heart.

⁴ Give not to kings, O Lamuel, give not wine to kings: because there is no secret where drunkenness reigneth: ⁵ And lest they drink and forget judgments, and pervert the cause of the children of the poor. ⁶ Give strong drink to them that are sad; and wine to them that are grieved in mind: ⁷ Let them drink, and forget their want, and remember their sorrow no more.

²¹ And no priest shall drink wine when he is to go into the inner court.

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury: but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit,

³ Not given to wine, no striker, but modest, not quarrelsome, not covetous, but

⁸ Deacons in like manner: chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre:

⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected that is received with thanksgiving:

⁷ For a bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not subject to anger, nor given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre:
