¹⁷ Let the priests that rule well be esteemed worthy of double honour: especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

⁹ And when they were gone over, Elias said to Eliseus: Ask what thou wilt have me to do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Eliseus said: I beseech thee, that in me may be thy double spirit.

² Speak ye to the heart of Jerusalem, and call to her: for her evil is come to an end, her iniquity is forgiven: she hath received of the hand of the Lord double for all her sins.

¹⁸ And I will repay first their double iniquities, and their sins: because they have defiled my land with the carcasses of their idols, and they have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

¹⁸ Let them be confounded that persecute me, and let not me be confounded: let them be afraid, and let not me be afraid: bring upon them the day of affliction, and with a double destruction, destroy them.

¹² Return to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope, I will render thee double as I declare today.

³⁷ Then he saith to his disciples, The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. ³⁸ Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest.

²⁵ Behold I have told it to you, beforehand.

¹ And after these things, the Lord appointed also other seventy-two. And he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come. ² And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he send labourers into his harvest.

⁷ And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house.

⁴² And the Lord said: Who thinkest thou is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season?

³⁸ I have sent you to reap that in which you did not labour. Others have laboured: and you have entered into their labours.

³⁰ Which also they did, sending it to the ancients, by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

³⁵ I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive.

¹⁰ Who also honoured us with many honours: and when we were to set sail, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

⁸ He that exhorteth, in exhorting; he that giveth, with simplicity; he that ruleth, with carefulness; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

²⁷ For it hath pleased them: and they are their debtors. For, if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they ought also in carnal things to minister to them.

¹² Salute Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute Persis, the dearly beloved, who hath much laboured in the Lord.

⁹ For we are God's coadjutors. You are God's husbandry: you are God's building.

⁵ Have we not power to carry about a woman, a sister as well as the rest of the apostles and the brethren of the Lord and Cephas? ⁶ Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to do this? ⁷ Who serveth as a soldier, at any time, at his own charges? Who planteth a vineyard and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Who feedeth the flock and eateth not of the milk of the flock? ⁸ Speak I these things according to man? Or doth not the law also say; these things? ⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses: Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? ¹⁰ Or doth he say this indeed for our sakes? For these things are written for our sakes: that he that plougheth, should plough in hope and he that thrasheth, in hope to receive fruit. ¹¹ If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we reap your carnal things? ¹² If others be partakers of this power over you, why not we rather? Nevertheless, we have not used this power: but we bear all things, lest we should give any hindrance to the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Know you not that they who work in the holy place eat the things that are of the holy place; and they that serve the altar partake with the altar? ¹⁴ So also the Lord ordained that they who preach the gospel should live by the gospel.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me hath not been void: but I have laboured more abundantly than all they. Yet not I, but the grace of God with me:

¹⁶ That you also be subject to such and to every one that worketh with us and laboureth.

¹ And we helping do exhort you that you receive not the grace of God in vain.

⁶ And let him that is instructed in the word communicate to him that instructeth him, in all good things.

¹⁶ Holding forth the word of life to my glory in the day of Christ: because I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.

²⁹ Receive him therefore with all joy in the Lord: and treat with honour such as he is.

³ And I entreat thee also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

¹² And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you; ¹³ That you esteem them more abundantly in charity, for their work's sake. Have peace with them.

⁵ But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

⁶ These things proposing to the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished up in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which thou hast attained unto.

¹⁰ For therefore we labour and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.

¹⁶ Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.

³ Honour widows that are widows indeed.

⁶ The husbandman that laboureth must first partake of the fruits.

² Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.

⁷ Remember your prelates who have spoken the word of God to you: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation,

¹⁷ Obey your prelates and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls: that they may do this with joy and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.

²⁴ Salute all your prelates and all the saints. The brethren from Italy salute you.
