¹⁶ Count not thy handmaid for one of the daughters of Belial: for out of the abundance of my sorrow and grief have I spoken till now.

¹³ Children of Belial are gone out of the midst of thee, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, and have said: Let us go, and serve strange gods which you know not:

¹² Now the sons of Heli were children of Belial, not knowing the Lord,

²⁷ But the children of Belial said: Shall this fellow be able to save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents; but he dissembled as though he heard not.

²⁵ Let not my lord the king, I pray thee, regard this naughty man, Nabal: for according to his name, he is a fool, and folly is with him: but I, thy handmaid, did not see thy servants, my lord, whom thou sentest.

² O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance. ³ As the sand of the sea, this would appear heavier: therefore, my words are full of sorrow:

¹ My soul is weary of my life, I will let go my speech against myself, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say to God: Do not condemn me: tell me why thou judgest me so?

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can you speak good things, whereas you are evil? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ A good man out of a good treasure bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of an evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
