⁸ How Jacob went into Egypt, and your fathers cried to the Lord: and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

⁵ And Jacob rose up from the well of the oath: and his sons took him up, with their children and wives in the wagons, which Pharao had sent to carry the old man, ⁶ And all that he had in the land of Chanaan: and he came into Egypt with all his seed; ⁷ His sons, and grandsons, daughters, and all his offspring together.

²³ Now after a long time the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel groaning, cried out because of the works: and their cry went up unto God from the works. ²⁴ And he heard their groaning, and remembered the covenant which he made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

⁹ For the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have seen their affliction, wherewith they are oppressed by the Egyptians. ¹⁰ But come, and I will send thee to Pharao, that thou mayst bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.

¹⁴ The Lord being angry at Moses, said: Aaron the Levite is thy brother, I know that he is eloquent: behold he cometh forth to meet thee, and seeing thee, shall be glad at heart. ¹⁵ Speak to him, and put my words in his mouth: and I will be in thy mouth, and in his month, and will shew you what you must do. ¹⁶ He shall speak in thy stead to the people, and shall be thy mouth: but thou shalt be to him in those things that pertain to God.

²⁷ And the Lord said to Aaron: Go into the desert to meet Moses. And he went forth to meet him in the mountain of God, and kissed him. ²⁸ And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord, by which he had sent him, and the signs that he had commanded. ²⁹ And they came together, and they assembled all the ancients of the children of Israel. ³⁰ And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had said to Moses: and he wrought the signs before the people. ³¹ And the people believed. And they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction: and falling down they adored.

²⁶ These are Aaron and Moses, whom the Lord commanded to bring forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.

⁵¹ And the same day the Lord brought forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.

³⁰ And the Lord delivered Israel in that day out of the hands of the Egyptians. ³¹ And they saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore, and the mighty hand that the Lord had used against them: and the people feared the Lord, and they believed the Lord, and Moses his servant.

¹⁵ In what manner our fathers went down into Egypt, and there we dwelt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers.

² Moses my servant is dead: arise, and pass over this Jordan, thou and thy people with thee, into the land which I will give to the children of Israel. ³ I will deliver to you every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, as I have said to Moses. ⁴ From the desert, and from Libanus unto the great river Euphrates, all the land of the Hethites, unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

⁶ Take courage, and be strong: for thou shalt divide by lot to this people the land for which I swore to their fathers, that I would deliver it to them.

¹⁰ And again he said: By this you shall know, that the Lord, the living God, is in the midst of you, and that he shall destroy, before your sight, the Chanaanite and the Hethite, the Hevite and the Pherezite, the Gergesite also, and the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite. ¹¹ Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth shall go before you into the Jordan. ¹² Prepare ye twelve men of the tribes of Israel, one of every tribe. ¹³ And when the priests, that carry the ark of the Lord the God of the whole earth, shall set the soles of their feet in the waters of the Jordan, the waters that are beneath shall run down and go off: and those that come from above, shall stand together upon a heap.

¹⁸ And he said to the children of Israel: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the hand of all the kings who afflicted you.

⁶ And Samuel said to the people: It is the Lord who made Moses and Aaron, and brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt.

¹ Unto the end, for the sons of Core, to give understanding. ^(44:2) We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old. ^{2 (44:3)} Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out. ^{3 (44:4)} For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

⁵⁴ And he brought them into the mountain of his sanctuary: the mountain which his right hand had purchased. And he cast out the Gentiles before them: and by lot divided to them their land by a line of distribution. ⁵⁵ And he made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tabernacles.

⁴⁴ And he gave them the lands of the Gentiles: and they possessed the labours of the people:

¹⁵ So Jacob went down into Egypt. And he died, and our fathers.
