¹ And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:

²⁹ And when he saw that the day of his death drew nigh, he called his son Joseph, and said to him: If I have found favour in thy sight, put thy hand under my thigh; and thou shalt shew me this kindness and truth, not to bury me in Egypt.

¹⁹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest and all the multitude:

²⁸ Command Josue, and encourage and strengthen him: for he shall go before this people, and shall divide unto them the land which thou shalt see.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses: Behold the days of thy death are nigh: call Josue, and stand ye in the tabernacle of the testimony, that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Josue went and stood in the tabernacle of the testimony:

²³ And the Lord commanded Josue the son of Nun, and said: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I have promised, and I will be with thee.

¹ This is the blessing, wherewith the man of God, Moses, blessed the children of Israel, before his death.

²⁸ Take heed to yourselves and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the Church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ I know that after my departure ravening wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ And of your own selves shall arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore watch, keeping in memory that for three years I ceased not with tears to admonish every one of you, night and day.

¹⁸ This precept, I commend to thee, O son Timothy: according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare,

¹³ I charge thee before God who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus who gave testimony under Pontius Pilate, a good confession:

¹ I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom:

⁶ For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand.

¹³ But I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance. ¹⁴ Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me. ¹⁵ And I will endeavour that you frequently have after my decease whereby you may keep a memory of these things.
