¹ And Elias the Thesbite, of the inhabitants of Galaad, said to Achab: As the Lord liveth, the God of Israel, in whose sight I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to the words of my mouth.

⁸ At that time he separated the tribe of Levi, to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to stand before him in the ministry, and to bless in his name until this present day.

⁴ Then calling to him all the men of Galaad, he fought against Ephraim: and the men of Galaad defeated Ephraim, because he had said: Galaad is a fugitive of Ephraim, and dwelleth in the midst of Ephraim and Manasses.

¹ After many days, the word of the Lord came to Elias, in the third year, saying: Go, and shew thyself to Achab, that I may give rain upon the face of the earth.

¹⁰ As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when all answered: He is not here: he took an oath of every kingdom and nation, because thou wast not found.

¹⁵ And Elias said: As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whose face I stand, this day I will shew myself unto him.

¹⁴ But Micheas said to him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.

¹⁴ And Eliseus said to him: As the Lord of hosts liveth, in whose sight I stand, if I did not reverence the face of Josaphat, king of Juda, I would not have hearkened to thee, nor looked on thee.

¹⁶ But he answered: As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And when he pressed him, he still refused.

¹⁸ Lift up thy eyes round about, and see all these are gathered together, they are come to thee: I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt be clothed with all these as with an ornament, and as a bride thou shalt put them about thee.

¹⁹ Therefore thus saith the Lord: If thou wilt be converted, I will convert thee, and thou shalt stand before my face; and thou wilt separate the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: they shall be turned to thee, and thou shalt not be turned to them.

²⁹ For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees.

¹⁴ And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.

¹⁴ But they said: Some John the Baptist, and other some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

⁴⁷ And some that stood there and heard said: This man calleth Elias.

⁴⁹ And the others said: Let be. Let us see whether Elias will come to deliver him.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias: that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.

¹⁹ And the angel answering, said to him: I am Gabriel, who stand before God and am sent to speak to thee and to bring thee these good tidings.

²⁵ In truth I say to You, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth. ²⁶ And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman.

³⁰ And behold two men were talking with him. And they were Moses and Elias,

³³ And it came to pass that, as they were departing from him, Peter saith to Jesus: Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses; and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

⁵⁴ And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?

³⁶ Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the Son of man.

²¹ And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No.

²⁵ And they asked him and said to him: Why then dost thou baptize, if thou be not Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?

²³ For an angel of God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood by me this night,

² God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Know you not what the scripture saith of Elias, how he calleth on God against Israel?

¹⁷ Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that it might not rain upon the earth. And it rained not for three years and six months.

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: And they have power over waters, to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
