¹⁷ Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;

²⁵ And it came to pass when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison-house, and he played before them; and they set him between the pillars.

⁵ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out from thence a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed, ⁶ and cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David; and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. ⁷ And thus said Shimei as he cursed: Away, away, thou man of blood and man of Belial! ⁸ Jehovah has returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Jehovah has given the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son; and behold, thou art [taken] in thine own evil, for thou art a man of blood. ⁹ And Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head. ¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, for Jehovah has said to him, Curse David! Who shall then say, Why dost thou so? ¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forth of my bowels, seeks my life: how much more now a Benjaminite? let him alone and let him curse; for Jehovah has bidden him. ¹² It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. ¹³ And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill`s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. ¹⁴ And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, and exulted when evil befell him;

¹⁵ But at my halting they rejoiced, and gathered together: the slanderers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not; they did tear [me], and ceased not:

¹⁹ Let not them that are wrongfully mine enemies rejoice over me; let them not wink with the eye that hate me without cause.

¹⁰ As with a crushing in my bones mine adversaries reproach me, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?

⁵ Whoso mocketh a poor [man] reproacheth his Maker; he that is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent.

¹² But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; nor have opened wide thy mouth in the day of distress.

⁶ does not rejoice at iniquity but rejoices with the truth, ⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
