¹ And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have seen assuredly the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and their cry have I heard on account of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows.

²⁵ -- If thou lend money to my people, the poor with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer: ye shall charge him no interest. ²⁶ -- If thou at all take thy neighbour`s garment in pledge, thou shalt return it to him before the sun goes down; ²⁷ for that is his only covering, his garment for his skin: on what shall he lie down? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

³⁵ And if thy brother grow poor, and he be fallen into decay beside thee, then thou shalt relieve him, [be he] stranger or sojourner, that he may live beside thee. ³⁶ Thou shalt take no usury nor increase of him; and thou shalt fear thy God; that thy brother may live beside thee. ³⁷ Thy money shalt thou not give him upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.

⁷ If there be amongst you a poor man, any one of thy brethren in one of thy gates, in thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy brother in need; ⁸ but thou shalt open thy hand bountifully unto him, and shalt certainly lend him on pledge what is sufficient for his need, [in that] which he lacketh. ⁹ Beware that there be not a wicked thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry against thee to Jehovah, and it be sin in thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt bountifully give unto him, and thy heart shall not be evil-disposed when thou givest unto him; because for this thing Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thy works, and in all the business of thy hand. ¹¹ For the needy shall never cease from within the land; therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thy hand bountifully unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

³⁸ If my land cry out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have tormented to death the souls of its owners:

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

⁷ For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah the plant of his delight: and he looked for justice, and behold, blood-shedding; for righteousness, and behold, a cry.

⁷ And shall not God at all avenge his elect, who cry to him day and night, and he bears long as to them?

²⁶ And on the morrow he shewed himself to them as they were contending, and compelled them to peace, saying, *Ye* are brethren, why do ye wrong one another?

⁶ But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers. ⁷ Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded? ⁸ But *ye* do wrong, and defraud, and this [your] brethren.

⁴ Behold, the wages of your labourers, who have harvested your fields, wrongfully kept back by you, cry, and the cries of those that have reaped are entered into the ears of [the] Lord of sabaoth.
