¹ And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.

⁶ And the sons of Zerah: Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. ⁷ And the sons of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the accursed thing.

⁷ And God was displeased on account of this thing, and he smote Israel.

¹⁸ And they forsook the house of Jehovah the God of their fathers, and served the Asherahs and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

⁶ and said: O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over [our] head, and our trespass is grown up to the heavens.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.

⁷ Thine, O Lord, is the righteousness, but unto us confusion of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, in all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their unfaithfulness in which they have been unfaithful against thee.

⁷ And they said each one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

¹ It is universally reported [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as [is] not even among the nations, so that one should have his father`s wife. ² And *ye* are puffed up, and ye have not rather mourned, in order that he that has done this deed might be taken away out of the midst of you. ³ For *I*, [as] absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged as present, ⁴ [to deliver,] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (ye and my spirit being gathered together, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ), him that has so wrought this: ⁵ to deliver him, [I say,] [being] such, to Satan for destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ Your boasting [is] not good. Do ye not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
