²⁰ The womb forgetteth him; the worm feedeth sweetly on him: he shall be no more remembered; and unrighteousness is broken as a tree, --

⁷ For there is hope for a tree: if it be cut down, it will sprout again, and its tender branch will not cease; ⁸ Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground, ⁹ Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a young plant. ¹⁰ But a man dieth, and is prostrate; yea, man expireth, and where is he?

¹⁴ I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister!

¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off; ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name on the pasture-grounds.

²⁶ And [if] after my skin this shall be destroyed, yet from out of my flesh shall I see +God;

⁷ The memory of the righteous [man] shall be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

¹⁰ And I have also seen the wicked buried and going away; and such as had acted rightly went from [the] holy place, and were forgotten in the city. This also is vanity.

¹⁴ [They are] dead, they shall not live; deceased, they shall not rise: for thou hast visited and destroyed them, and made all memory of them to perish.

¹⁴ he cried aloud, and said thus: Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit; let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from its branches.

¹⁰ And already the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
