But it was certain Jews from Asia, ¹⁹ who ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me; ²⁰ or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council, ²¹ [other] than concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching [the] resurrection of [the] dead. ²² And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair; ²³ ordering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him. ²⁴ And after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. ²⁵ And as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee; ²⁶ hoping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him. ²⁷ But when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound.

⁷ And when he was come, the Jews who were come down from Jerusalem stood round, bringing many and grievous charges which they were not able to prove:

⁷ to all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and [our] Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ swift their feet to shed blood;

⁴ who are Israelites; whose [is] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the law-giving, and the service, and the promises; ⁵ whose [are] the fathers; and of whom, as according to flesh, [is] the Christ, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

⁹ For a great door is opened to me and an effectual [one], and [the] adversaries many.

¹³ For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And [it is] not wonderful, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is no great thing therefore if his ministers also transform themselves as ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

⁴ and [it was] on account of the false brethren brought in surreptitiously, who came in surreptitiously to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage;

¹⁸ wherefore we have desired to come to you, even I Paul, both once and twice, and Satan has hindered us.

²² hold aloof from every form of wickedness.

⁸ Now in the same manner in which Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, thus these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, found worthless as regards the faith.

¹³ Be in subjection [therefore] to every human institution for the Lord`s sake; whether to [the] king as supreme, ¹⁴ or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well. ¹⁵ Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction; ² and many shall follow their dissolute ways, through whom the way of the truth shall be blasphemed.

⁹ I wrote something to the assembly; but Diotrephes, who loves to have the first place among them, receives us not. ¹⁰ For this reason, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he does, babbling against us with wicked words; and not content with these, neither does he himself receive the brethren; and those who would he prevents, and casts [them] out of the assembly.

¹⁰ And I heard a great voice in the heaven saying, Now is come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ; for the accuser of our brethren has been cast out, who accused them before our God day and night:
