¹⁴ When thou comest unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are about me;

³⁴ When ye come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put a leprous plague in a house of the land of your possession,

¹ When Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations from before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou,

³¹ For ye pass over the Jordan to enter in to possess the land which Jehovah your God giveth you, and ye shall take possession of it, and dwell therein.

⁹ For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which Jehovah thy God giveth thee. ¹⁰ But when ye have gone over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which Jehovah your God causeth you to inherit, and when he hath given you rest from all your enemies round about, and ye dwell in safety,

⁹ When thou art come into the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.

¹ And it shall be when thou comest into the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein,

⁹ and he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey!

⁵ and said to him, Behold, thou art become old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now appoint us a king to judge us, like all the nations. ⁶ And the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah. ⁷ And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

¹⁹ And the people refused to hearken to the voice of Samuel; and they said, No, but there shall be a king over us, ²⁰ that we also may be like all the nations; and our king shall judge us, and go out before us, and conduct our wars.

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to Jehovah thy God for thy servants, that we die not; for we have added to all our sins the wickedness to ask for ourselves a king.
