¹⁶ Morouer thus saieth ye LORDE: Seinge the doughters of Sion are become so proude, and come in with stretched out neckes, and with vayne wanton eyes: seinge they come in trippinge so nycely with their fete:

¹⁸ In that daye shal the LORDE take awaye the gorgiousnes of their apparel, and spanges, cheynes, partlettes, ¹⁹ and colares, bracelettes and hooues, ²⁰ ye goodly floured, wyde and broderd raymet, brusshes and headbandes, ²¹ rynges and garlades, ²² holy daye clothes and vales, kerchues and pynnes, ²³ glasses and smockes, bonettes and taches. ²⁴ And in steade of good smell there shalbe stynck amonge them. And for their gyrdles there shalbe lowse bondes. And for wellset hayre there shalbe baldnesse. In steade of a stomacher, a sack cloth, and for their bewty wythrednesse and sonneburnynge.

⁴ They shal buylde the loge rough wildernes, & set vp ye olde deserte. They shal repayre the waist places, & soch as haue bene voyde thorow out many generacios

³² Doth a mayden forget hir raymet, or a bryde hir stomacher? And doth my people forget me so loge?

³⁰ What wilt thou now do, thou beinge destroyed? For though thou clothest thy self with scarlet, & deckest ye with gold: though thou payntest thy face wt colours, yet shalt thou trymme thy self in vayne. For those that hither to haue bene thy greate fauourers, shal abhorre the, and go aboute to slaye ye.

⁹ Then wa?shed I the with water, & pourged thy bloude from the. I anoynted the with oyle, ¹⁰ I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Taxus lether: I gyrthed ye aboute wt white sylcke, I clothed the with kerchues, ¹¹ I decked the wt costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, ¹² spages vpo thy foreheade, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, & set a beutifull crowne vpon thine heade. ¹³ Thus wast thou deckte with syluer & golde, & thy rayment was of fyne white sylke, of nedle worke & of dyuerse colours. Thou didest eate nothinge but symnels, honny & oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutifull, yee euen a very Quene wast thou: ¹⁴ In so moch, that thy beuty was spoken of amonge the Heithen, for thou wast excellet in my beuty, which I put vpo the, saieth the LORDE God. ¹⁵ But thou hast put confidece in thine owne beuty, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou hast committed whordome, with all that wente by the, & hast fulfilled their desyres: ¹⁶ Yee thou hast taken thy garmetes of dyuerse colours, & deckte thine aulters therwith, where vpon thou mightest fulfill thine whordome, of soch a fashion, as neuer was done, ner shalbe.

²⁸ why care ye then for rayment? Considre the lylies of the felde, how they growe. They laboure not, nether spynne. ²⁹ And yet for all that I saye vnto you, that euen Salomon in all his royalte was not arayed lyke vnto one of these.

⁸ Or what are ye gone out for to se? Wolde ye se a man clothed in soft rayment? Beholde, they that weare soft clothinge, are in kinges houses,

³ And the elder wemen likewyse that they shewe them selues as it becommeth holynes, that they be no false accusers, not geuen to moch wyne, that they teach honest thinges, ⁴ that they enfourme the yonge wemen to be sober mynded, to loue their hussbandes, to loue their childre, ⁵ to be discrete, chaste, husswyfly, good, obedient vnto their awne hussbandes, that the worde of God be not euell spoken of.

³ Whose apparell shal not be outwarde wt broyded heer, & hanginge on of golde, or in puttynge on of gorgious araye, ⁴ but let ye inwarde ma of ye hert be vncorrupte wt a meke & a quyete sprete, which before God is moch set by. ⁵ For after this maner in the olde tyme, dyd ye holy weme which trusted in God, tyer the selues, & were obedient vnto their hussbades:
