They said, "Barabbas!" ²² Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Let him be crucified!" ²³ And he said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. See to it yourselves." ²⁵ And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

But they shouted all the more, "Crucify him!" ¹⁵ So Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged him, to be crucified.

³⁹ But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?" ⁴⁰ Then they all cried again, "Not this man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.

¹⁵ But they cried out, "Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no King but Caesar." ¹⁶ Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus.

¹⁴ But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,

³⁶ for the mob of the people followed, shouting, "Away with him!"

²² Up to this word they listened to him, and then they raised their voices and said, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he ought not to live."
