¹⁴ The beginning of a quarrel is like opening up a dam of water, So before the contention rails, abandon it."

⁸ And saying is Abram to Lot, "There must not, pray, come to be contention between me and you, and between my graziers and your graziers, for mortals, brethren are we. ⁹ Is not the entire land before you? Be parted, pray, from me. If to the left, to the right will I go. And if to the right, to the left will I go.

¹ And the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What [is] this thing you have done to us--not to call for us when you did go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;" <sup>2</sup> and he said unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer? ³ Into your hand has Elohim given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

¹ And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has you passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us have not called to go with you? your house we burn over you with fire.. <sup>2</sup> And Jephthah said unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and you have not saved me out of their hand, ³ and I see that you are not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Yahweh gives them into my hand--and why have you come up unto me this day to fight against me?. ⁴ And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fights with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim [are] you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim--in the midst of Manasseh.. <sup>5</sup> And Gilead captures the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it has been, when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,' and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephraimite you?' and he said, `No;. ⁶ that they say to him, `Say, I pray you, Shibboleth;' and he said, `Sibboleth,' and is not prepared to speak right--and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.

¹⁴ And Abner said unto Joab, `Let the youths rise, I pray you, and they play before us;' and Joab said, `Let them rise.. ¹⁵ And they rise and pass over, in number twelve of Benjamin, even of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. ¹⁶ And they lay hold, each on the head of his companion, and his sword [is] in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and [one] calls that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which [is] in Gibeon, ¹⁷ and the battle is very hard on that day, and Abner is smitten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

⁴¹ And, lo, all the men of Israel are coming unto the king, and they say unto the king, `Wherefore have they stolen you--our brethren, the men of Judah?' (and they bring the king and his household over the Jordan, and all the men of David with him).

¹⁴ and speaks unto them according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I--I add unto it; my father chastised you with whips, and I--with scorpions.. <sup>15</sup> And the king has not hearkened unto the people, for the revolution has been from Elohim, for the sake of Yahweh's establishing His word that He spoke by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat. <sup>16</sup> And all Israel have seen that the king has not hearkened to them, and the people send back [to] the king, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; each to your tents, O Israel; now, see your house--David,' and all Israel go to their tents.

¹⁷ and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁷ And Amaziah king of Judah takes counsel, and sends unto Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, ¹⁸ `Come, we look one another in the face.' And Joash king of Israel sends unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon has sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by does a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treads down the thorn. ¹⁹ You have said, Lo, I have smitten Edom; and your heart has lifted you up to boast; now, abide in your house, why do you stir yourself up in evil, that you have fallen, you, and Judah with you?. ²⁰ And Amaziah has not hearkened, for from Elohim it [is] in order to give them into hand, because they have sought the elohims of Edom;" ²¹ and go up does Joash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's, ²² and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee--each to his tents. ²³ And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, has Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and brings him in to Jerusalem, and breaks down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits, ²⁴ and [takes] all the gold, and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Elohim with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turns back to Samaria.

⁶ And Pekah son of Remaliah slays in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers.

¹⁰ Surely arrogance produces strife, Yet wisdom is found with those taking counsel."

²⁹ He who is slow to anger shows great comprehension, Yet he who is short of spirit heightens folly."

¹ A tender response turns away fury, Yet grievous speech kindles anger."

³² He who is slow to anger is better than a masterful man, And he who rules over his spirit than one seizing a city."

¹⁹ He who loves transgression loves strife; He who makes his portal lofty seeks its breaking down.

¹¹ It is intelligence for a man when he postpones his anger, And it is his beauty to pass over a transgression."

³ It is glory to a man to cease from contention, Yet every fool rails on."

⁸ Do not speak forth hastily to many; For what shall you do in its end, When your associate confounds you?

²¹ Coal for embers and wood for fire, And a quarrelsome man to heat a contention."

²² An angry man stirs up a quarrel, And a furious person works much transgression."

⁸ The end of a matter is better than its beginning; A long-suffering spirit is better than a haughty spirit. ⁹ Do not be rash to be vexed in your spirit, For vexation rests in the bosom of the stupid."

³⁹ Yet I am saying to you not to withstand a wicked person, but anyone who slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And he who wants to sue you and obtain your tunic, leave him your cloak also. ⁴¹ And anyone who conscripts you one mile, go with him two.

¹ Now in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came to be a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews, that their widows were overlooked in the daily dispensation." ² Now the twelve, calling the multitude of the disciples to them, say, "It is not pleasing for us, leaving the word of God, to be serving at tables." ³ Now, brethren, pick out seven attested men from among you, full of the spirit and of wisdom, whom we will place over this need." ⁴ Yet we shall be persevering in prayer and the dispensation of the word." ⁵ And, pleased by the word spoken before the entire multitude, they choose Stephen, a man full of faith and holy spirit, and Philip and Prochoros and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholas, a proselyte of Antioch,

² Now as Paul and Barnabas come to have no slight commotion and questioning with them, they prescribe that Paul and Barnabas and some others from among them are to go up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem concerning this question." ³ They indeed, then, being sent forward by the ecclesia, passed through Phoenicia as well as Samaria, detailing the turning about of the nations. And they caused great joy to all the brethren." ⁴ Now coming along into Jerusalem, they were received by the ecclesia and the apostles and the elders. Besides, they inform them of whatever God does with them." ⁵ Yet some from the sect of the Pharisees who have believed rise up, saying that they must be circumcised, besides charging them to keep the law of Moses." ⁶ Now the apostles and the elders were gathered to see about this matter. ⁷ Now, there coming to be much questioning, rising, Peter said to them, "Men! Brethren! You are versed in the fact that from the days at the beginning God chooses among you, that through my mouth the nations are to hear the word of the evangel and believe." ⁸ And God, the Knower of hearts, testifies to them, giving the holy spirit according as to us also, ⁹ and in nothing discriminates between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith." ¹⁰ Why, then, are you now trying God, by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we are strong enough to bear? ¹¹ But through the grace of the Lord Jesus we are believing, to be saved in a manner even as they." ¹² Now the entire multitude hushes, and they heard Barnabas and Paul unfolding whatever signs and miracles God does among the nations through them." ¹³ Now after they hush, James answered saying, "Men! Brethren! Hear me!" ¹⁴ Simon unfolds how God first visits the nations, to obtain out of them a people for His name." ¹⁵ And with this agree the words of the prophets, according as it is written, ¹⁶ After these things I will turn back, 'And I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen... And its overturned structure will I rebuild, And I will re-erect it... " ¹⁷ So that those left of mankind should be seeking out the Lord, And all the nations, on them over whom My name is invoked, Is saying the Lord, Who is doing these things.'" ¹⁸ Known from the eon to the Lord is His work. ¹⁹ Wherefore I decide not to be harassing those from the nations who are turning back to God, ²⁰ but to write an epistle to them to be abstaining from ceremonial pollution with idols, and prostitution, and what is strangled, and blood." ²¹ For Moses, from ancient generations, city by city, has those who are heralding him, being read on every sabbath in the synagogues."

¹⁸ if possible that which comes out from yourselves. Being at peace with all mankind,

¹¹ and that you be ambitious to be quiet, and to be engaged in your own affairs, and to be working with your hands, according as we charge you,

²³ Now stupid and crude questionings refuse, being aware that they are generating fightings." ²⁴ Now a slave of the Lord must not be fighting, but be gentle toward all, apt to teach, bearing with evil,

¹⁴ Now if you are having bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, are you not vaunting against and falsifying the truth? ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but terrestrial, soulish, demoniacal. " ¹⁶ For wherever jealousy and faction are, there is turbulence also, and every bad practice." ¹⁷ Now the wisdom from above is first, indeed, pure, thereupon peaceable, lenient, compliant, bulging with mercy and good fruits, undiscriminating, unfeigned." ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is being sown in peace for those making peace.
