¹³ If one returns evil for good, Evil shall not remove itself from his house."

¹⁷ And he said unto David, `More righteous you [are] than I; for you have done me good, and I have done you evil;"

¹ And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeks the face of Yahweh, and Yahweh said, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.. <sup>2</sup> And the king calls for the Gibeonites, and said unto them--as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeks to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah-. <sup>3</sup> yea, David said unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless you the inheritance of Yahweh.. ⁴ And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he said, `What you are saying I do to you.. ⁵ And they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us--we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel-. <sup>6</sup> let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Yahweh, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.' And the king said, `I do give;. ⁷ and the king has pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Yahweh that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;" ⁸ and the king takes the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite, ⁹ and gives them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Yahweh; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest. ¹⁰ And Rizpah daughter of Aiah takes the sackcloth, and stretches it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water has been poured out upon them from the heavens, and has not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night. ¹¹ And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, has done, ¹² and David goes and takes the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;" ¹³ and he brings up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged, ¹⁴ and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and Elohim is entreated for the land afterwards.

¹² They are repaying me evil for good, Seeking bereavement to my soul."

²⁰ Those repaying evil for good, They are my adversaries in my pursuit of the good."

¹² For it is not an enemy who is reproaching me; Then I could bear it; It is not one hating me who magnifies himself against me; Then I could conceal myself from him; ¹³ But it is you, a mortal of my own rank, My mentor and my close acquaintance." ¹⁴ We who together made sweet deliberation, We walked with the foregathering crowd in the House of Elohim." ¹⁵ May death lure them away; May they descend to the unseen alive, For evils are among them in their sojourning."

⁴ In return for my love they are my adversaries, Even while I was in prayer." ⁵ They bring evil upon me in return for good, And hatred in return for my love." ⁶ Post a wicked person over him, And let an adversary stand at his right hand." ⁷ When he is judged, let him go forth condemned, And let his prayer be seen as sin." ⁸ May his days come to be few; May his supervision be taken by another. ⁹ May his sons become orphans, And his wife a widow." ¹⁰ May his sons rove, yea rove so that they must beg, And may they be driven out from their deserted homes." ¹¹ May the creditor confiscate all that he has, And may aliens plunder the fruit of his labor." ¹² There must not be anyone being indulgent with kindness to him, And there must not be anyone showing grace to his orphans." ¹³ May his posterity be cut off; In the generation following, may his name be wiped out."

²⁰ Is evil recompensed instead of good, That they have dug a pit for my soul? Remember my standing before You to speak good of them, To turn back Your wrath from them." ²¹ Therefore, give up their sons to famine, And cause them to run on the sides of the sword, And their wives are bereaved and widows, And their men are slain by death, Their young men smitten by sword in battle,

⁵ And, tossing the silver pieces into the temple, he retires, and, coming away, strangles himself."

²⁵ And, answering, the entire people said, "His blood be on us and on our children!"

¹⁷ To no one render evil for evil, making ideal provision in the sight of all men,

¹⁵ See that no one may be rendering evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue that which is good for one another as well as for all."

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling, but, on the contrary, blessing, seeing that you were called for this, that you should be enjoying the allotment of blessing,
