¹ Then the sons of Israel journeyed and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho. ² Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorite, ³ and Moab shrank in view of the people exceedingly, for they were numerous. Since Moab was irritated in view of the sons of Israel, ⁴ Moab said to the elders of Midian:Now this assembly shall lick up all around us like a bull licks up the green grass of the field. So Balak son of Zippor who was king of Moab at that time ⁵ sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor (which is on the Stream in the land of the sons of his people) to call for him, saying:Behold, a people has come forth from Egypt. Behold, they cover the eye of the land, and they are dwelling at my forefront. ⁶ Now come, I pray, curse this people for me, for they are more substantial than I. Perhaps I shall prevail, so that we may smite them and I may drive them out from the land, for I know that whomever you bless is being blessed and whomever you curse is accursed. ⁷ The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with the pay for divinations in their hands. They came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. ⁸ He said to them:Lodge here for the night, and I will bring back word to you just as Yahweh shall speak to me. So the chiefs of Moab dwelt with Balaam. ⁹ Now Elohim came to Balaam and said:Who are these men with you? ¹⁰ And Balaam said to the One, Elohim:Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent them to me, saying. ¹¹ Behold, the people coming forth from Egypt are covering the eye of the land! Now go, revile him for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight him, and I will drive him out. ¹² Then Elohim said to Balaam:You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for it is blessed. ¹³ Balaam rose in the morning and said to the chiefs of Balak:Go back to your land, for Yahweh has refused to allow me to go with you. ¹⁴ So the chiefs of Moab rose and came to Balak and said:Balaam refused to go with us. ¹⁵ Balak continued further to send other chiefs, more numerous and illustrious than these. ¹⁶ They came to Balaam and said to him:Thus says Balak son of Zippor, Do not, I pray, be withheld from coming to me, ¹⁷ for I shall glorify, yea glorify you exceedingly, and all that you may say to me I shall do. So come now I pray, revile this people for me. ¹⁸ Yet Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak:If Balak were giving to me the fullness of his house in silver and gold I could not cross the bidding of Yahweh my Elohim to do what is small or great. ¹⁹ Yet now dwell, I pray, you too, in this place, for the night; then I shall know what Yahweh shall continue to speak with me. ²⁰ Elohim came to Balaam at night and said to him:Since the men have come to call for you, rise, go with them. Yet only the word that I speak to you, only it shall you use. ²¹ Balaam rose in the morning and saddled his jenny and went with the chiefs of Moab. ²² Elohim's anger grew hot because he was going. So a messenger of Yahweh stationed himself in the road to be adverse to him. Now he was riding on his jenny, and his two lads were with him. ²³ The jenny saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road with his drawn sword in his hand, so the jenny turned aside from the road and went into a field. Balaam smote the jenny to turn her aside into the road. ²⁴ Then the messenger of Yahweh stood in a lane between the vineyards with a stone dike on this side and a stone dike on that side. ²⁵ The jenny saw the messenger of Yahweh and pressed herself close to the sidewall. When she pressed Balaam's foot close to the sidewall he continued to smite her. ²⁶ Yet the messenger of Yahweh continued to pass and stood in a narrow place in which there was no way to turn aside right or left. ²⁷ The jenny saw the messenger of Yahweh, and she reclined under Balaam. Balaam's anger grew hot, and he smote the jenny with a stick. ²⁸ Then Yahweh opened the mouth of the jenny, and she said to Balaam:What have I done to you that you have smitten me these three times? ²⁹ And Balaam said to the jenny:Because you abused me! O that there were a sword in my hand, for I would kill you right now. ³⁰ The jenny said to Balaam:Am I not your jenny on which you have ridden from your youth until this day? Have I been accustomed, yea accustomed to do thus to you? And he said:No. ³¹ Yahweh exposed the eyes of Balaam so that he saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road with his drawn sword in his hand. So he bowed his head and bowed himself down, with his nostrils to the ground. ³² The messenger of Yahweh said to him:On what grounds did you smite your jenny these three times? Behold, I myself came forth as your adversary, for your way in front of me is precipitant. ³³ The jenny saw me and turned aside from before me these three times. Unless she had turned aside from before me surely just now I would have killed you, and I would have preserved her alive. ³⁴ Then Balaam said to the messenger of Yahweh:I was at fault, for I did not realize that you were stationed to meet me on the road. And now, if it is evil in your eyes let me return to mine. ³⁵ The messenger of Yahweh said to Balaam:Go with the men, yet only the word which I speak to you may you speak to him. So Balaam went with the chiefs of Balak. ³⁶ When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went forth to meet him at Ar of Moab on the boundary of Arnon which was at the end of the territory. ³⁷ Then Balak said to Balaam:Did I not send, yea send to you to call for you? Why did you not come to me? Am I truly not able to glorify you? ³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak:Behold, I have come to you now. Can I prevail to speak anything freely? The word that Elohim places in my mouth, it shall I speak. ³⁹ So Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-Huzoth. ⁴⁰ Balak sacrificed from herd and flock and sent some to Balaam and to the chiefs who were with him. ⁴¹ It came to be in the morning that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the fane heights of Baal that he might see from there the outmost part of the people.

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the ravine which is in the field of Moab, the summit of the Pisgah ridge that gazes over the surface of the desolation.

¹⁹ for we shall not have an allotment with them across the Jordan and beyond since our allotment has come to us across the Jordan toward the sunrise.

⁴⁸ They journeyed from the mountains of Abarim and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho. ⁴⁹ They encamped along the Jordan from Beth-Jesimoth as far as Abel-Shittim in the plains of Moab. ⁵⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho, saying.

¹⁵ The two stocks and the half stock have taken their allotment across the Jordan of Jericho, eastward toward sunrise.

¹³ These are the instructions and judgments which Yahweh had instructed by means of Moses to the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab, along the Jordan across from Jericho.

⁵ In Transjordan in the country of Moab, Moses was disposed to make this law plain by saying.

⁸ At that time we took the area from the hand of the two kings of the Amorite who were in Transjordan, from the watercourse of Arnon as far as Mount Hermo.

¹ Then Moses ascended from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, the summit of the Pisgah ridge, which is overlooking Jericho. And Yahweh showed him all the land:Gilead as far as Dan;"

⁸ The sons of Israel lamented for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the days of lamentation, the mourning for Moses, came to an end.

¹⁶ that the waters stand; those coming down from above have risen--one heap, very far above Adam the city, which [is] at the side of Zaretan; and those going down by the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea, have been completely cut off; and the people have passed through over-against Jericho;"

³ Yahweh heard the voice of Israel and gave the Canaanite into his hand. So he doomed them and their cities; hence one called the name of the place Hormah.

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the ravine which is in the field of Moab, the summit of the Pisgah ridge that gazes over the surface of the desolation. ²¹ Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorite with words of peace, saying. ²² Let me pass through your land. We shall not turn aside into field or into vineyard. We shall not drink water of any well. By the king's road shall we go until we cross over your boundary. ²³ Yet Sihon would not allow Israel to cross over at his boundary. Sihon gathered all his people and went forth to meet Israel toward the wilderness. He came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. ²⁴ Yet Israel smote him with the edge of the sword and tenanted his land from the Arnon as far as the Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon, for the boundary of the sons of Ammon was Jazer. ²⁵ Israel took all these cities. Israel also dwelt in all the cities of the Amorite, in Heshbon and in all its outskirts, ²⁶ for Heshbon, it was a city of Sihon king of the Amorite. He had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land from his hand as far as the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore those discoursers say:Come to Heshbon, let it be rebuilt, and let the city of Sihon establish itself. ²⁸ For a fire came forth from Heshbon, a blaze from the town of Sihon. It devoured Ar of Moab, the possessors of the fane heights of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, people of Chemosh! He gave up his sons delivered from slaughter, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon, king of the Amorite. ³⁰ We shot them; Heshbon perished as far as Dibon; we caused desolation until the fire was blown as far as Medeba. ³¹ When Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorite, ³² Moses sent men to spy out Jazer. They seized its outskirts and evicted the Amorite who was there. ³³ Then they turned around and went up by the Bashan road. Og king of Bashan went forth to meet them, he and all his people, for battle at Edrei. ³⁴ Now Yahweh said to Moses:Do not fear him, for into your hand I give him and all his people and his land. You will do to him just as you did to Sihon king of the Amorite who was dwelling in Heshbon. ³⁵ So they smote him and his sons and all his people until no survivor at all remained for him; and they tenanted his land.

²⁵ `And now, [are] you at all better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he at all strive with Israel? did he at all fight against them?

¹⁵ Then the sheiks of Edom are flustered; the arbiters of Moab, quivering took hold of them. All the dwellers of Canaan are dissolved.

²⁵ This day I shall start to put the awe of you and the fear of you on the face of all peoples beneath the entire heavens; whenever they should hear a report of you, they will be disturbed and in travail before your face.

¹⁰ `For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which you have done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom you devoted. ¹¹ And we hear, and melt does our heart, and there has not stood any more spirit in [any] man, from your presence, for Yahweh your Elohim, He [is] Elohim in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath.

²⁴ and they say unto Joshua, `Surely Yahweh has given into our hand all the land; and also, all the inhabitants of the land have melted at our presence..

²⁴ And they answer Joshua and say, `Because it was certainly declared to your servants, that Yahweh your Elohim commanded Moses His servant to give to you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing;"

⁵ There they were afraid with alarm when no alarm was present, For Elohim, He had dispersed the bones of the foe encamping against you; You put them to shame, for Elohim rejected them."

⁵ As the report progresses to Egypt, they will travail. As to the report of Tyre,

² Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorite,

⁷ The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with the pay for divinations in their hands. They came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak.

¹⁷ I see him yet not now, I regard him yet not near. A star will tread forth from Jacob; a scepter will arise from Israel, and he will transfix both edges of Moab, and the scalp of all the sons of tumult.

¹⁵ And the name of the smitten Midianite woman was Cozbi daughter of Zur. He was a head of clans of a father's house in Midian. ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying. ¹⁷ Distress the Midianites and smite them, ¹⁸ for they were distressing you in their plots which they plotted against you over the matter of Peor and over the matter of their sister Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten on the day of the stroke over the matter of Peor.

⁸ As for the kings of Midian, they killed them along with their men wounded to death:Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, five kings of Midian. Also Balaam son of Beor they killed with the sword.

²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote, with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, princes of Sihon, inhabitants of the land. ²² And Balaam, son of Beor, the diviner, have the sons of Israel slain with the sword, among their wounded ones.

³⁸ On all roofs of Moab, and in her broad-places, All of it--[is] lamentation, For I have broken Moab as a vessel in which there is no pleasure, An affirmation of Yahweh."

¹⁶ And I make your seed as the soil of the land. Could a man count the soil of the land, moreover, then your seed shall be counted.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and were swarming and numerous and very, very staunch. So the land was filling up with them. ⁸ Then a new king rose over Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. ⁹ He said to his people: Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more numerous and staunch than we. ¹⁰ Grant attention! Let us show ourselves wise as to them, lest they increase and it come to be when someone proclaims war on us, and they are added, even they, to those hating us, that they fight against us and ascend from the land.

⁷ He took up his discourse and said:From Syria Balak gave me guidance, the king of Moab from the mountains of the east:Come now and curse Jacob for me! And come now and menace Israel.

⁴ on the score that they did not succor you with bread and with water along the main road when you came forth from Egypt and that they hired against you Balaam son of Beor, from Pethor, Aram-naharayim, to maledict you.

²² And Balaam, son of Beor, the diviner, have the sons of Israel slain with the sword, among their wounded ones.

⁹ `And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, rises and fights against Israel, and sends and calls for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you,

¹ On that day there was read in the book of Moses, in the ears of the people, and it has been found written in it that an Ammonite and Moabite does not come into the assembly of Elohim--unto the eon, ² because they have not come before the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and hire against them Balaam to revile them, and our Elohim turns the reviling into a blessing.

²⁴ Then He made His people exceedingly fruitful And made them more plentiful than their foes.

⁵ My people, remember, I pray, what Balak, king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam, son of Beor, answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of Yahweh."

¹⁵ Leaving the straight path, they were led astray, following out the path of Balaam of Beor, who loves the wages of injustice, ¹⁶ yet was exposed for his own outlawry. A voiceless yoke-beast, uttering with a human voice, forbids the insanity of the prophet."

¹¹ Woe to them! for they went in the way of Cain, and in the deception of Balaam's wages were they poured out, and in the contradiction of Korah they perished."

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, that you have there those holding the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a snare before the sons of Israel, to be eating idol sacrifices, and to commit prostitution."

³ And bless those will I who bless you, and those making light of you will I curse. And blessed in you and in your seed are all the families of the ground.

²⁹ Serve you shall peoples, and down shall bow to you the folkstems. Master be you over your brothers, and down to you shall bow the sons of your mother, One cursing you is accursed. And one blessing you is blessed!"

¹² Then Elohim said to Balaam:You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for it is blessed.

¹⁷ for I shall glorify, yea glorify you exceedingly, and all that you may say to me I shall do. So come now I pray, revile this people for me.

⁷ He took up his discourse and said:From Syria Balak gave me guidance, the king of Moab from the mountains of the east:Come now and curse Jacob for me! And come now and menace Israel. ⁸ How should I revile when El has not reviled him? How should I menace when Yahweh has not menaced?

⁹ He crouches and lies down like a lion, and like a parent lion; who shall make him rise? Whoever is blessing you is blessed and whoever is cursing you is cursed.

⁴³ And the Philistine said unto David, `Am I a dog that you are coming unto me with staves?' and the Philistine reviles David by his elohims,

⁶ and the king of Israel gathers the prophets, about four hundred men, and said unto them, `Do I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' and they say, `Go up, and the Lord does give [it] into the hand of the king..

⁸ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, `Yet--one man to seek Yahweh by him, and I have hated him, for he does not prophesy concerning me good, but evil--Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat said, `Let not the king say so..

¹³ And the messenger who has gone to call Micaiah has spoken unto him, saying, `Lo, I pray you, the words of the prophets, with one mouth, [are] good towards the king; let it be, I pray you, your word as the word of one of them--and you have spoken good..

² because they have not come before the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and hire against them Balaam to revile them, and our Elohim turns the reviling into a blessing.

¹⁷ He loved malediction; may it come back on him. He has not delighted in blessing; may it stay far from him. ¹⁸ He clothed himself with malediction as his coat; May it enter within him like water, And like oil into his bones."

²⁸ They may maledict, but You shall bless; Those rising against me shall be ashamed, yet Your servant shall rejoice."

² Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flying, So a gratuitous malediction does not come to rest."

¹² Then stand, pray, by your magic charms, and by your many enchantments, with which you were acquainted from your youth until today. Perhaps you can benefit! Perhaps you will be staunch!" ¹³ You are tired with your many counsels. Standing, pray, are they, and saving you are the astrologers, the seers of visions in the stars, the informers for new moons, from the things which are coming on you?

⁶ They have seen vanity, and lying divination, Who are saying:An affirmation of Yahweh, And Yahweh has not sent them, And they have hoped to establish a word."

⁹ Yet, before this, a certain man named Simon existed in the city by using magic and amazing the nation of Samaria, saying himself to be some great one, ¹⁰ whom they all heeded, from the small to the great, saying, "This man is the power of the god which is called Great."

¹⁶ Now it occurred, at our going to prayer, a certain maid, having a python spirit, meets us, who afforded a vast income to her masters, divining."

²³ For there is no augury against Jacob nor divination against Israel; at the right time it is spoken to Jacob and to Israel:What has El contrived!

¹ Balaam saw that it was good in the eyes of Yahweh to bless Israel so he did not go out, as he had done time upon time, to meet auguries, yet set his face toward the wilderness.

⁷ And Saul said to his young man, `And lo, we go, and what do we bring in to the man? for the bread has gone from our vessels, and a present there is not to bring in to the man of Elohim--what [is] with us?. <sup>8</sup> And the young man adds to answer Saul, and said, `Lo, there is found with me a fourth of a shekel of silver:and I have given to the man of Elohim, and he has declared to us our way..

¹¹ and curs strongly soulish. No satisfaction do they know. And they are evil. They do not know to understand. All of them face to their own way, each man for his own gain, for his own end."

¹⁹ Yea, you pierce Me concerning My people, For handfuls of barley, And for pieces of bread, to put to death Souls that should not die, And to keep alive souls that should not live, By your lying to My people--hearkening to lies."

¹¹ her heads are judging for a bribe, and her priests are directing for a price, and her prophets are divining for money, and on Yahweh they are leaning, saying:Is not Yahweh within us? Evil shall not come on us."

¹⁸ for such for our Lord Christ are not slaving, but for their own bowels, and through compliments and adulation are deluding the hearts of the innocent."

⁹ Now, those intending to be rich are falling into a trial and a trap and the many foolish and harmful desires which are swamping men in extermination and destruction." ¹⁰ For a root of all of the evils is the fondness for money, which some, craving, were led astray from the faith and try themselves on all sides with much pain."

¹¹ who must be gagged, who are subverting whole households, teaching what they must not, on behalf of sordid gain."

¹⁵ Leaving the straight path, they were led astray, following out the path of Balaam of Beor, who loves the wages of injustice,

⁶ He said:Oh hear My words. If there were a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, in an appearance shall make Myself known to him; in a dream shall I speak to him.

¹⁹ Yet now dwell, I pray, you too, in this place, for the night; then I shall know what Yahweh shall continue to speak with me. ²⁰ Elohim came to Balaam at night and said to him:Since the men have come to call for you, rise, go with them. Yet only the word that I speak to you, only it shall you use.

¹² Yet he answered and said:What Yahweh places in my mouth, is it not it that I should observe to speak?

² You have planted them, yea, they have taken root, They go on, yea, they have made fruit, Near [are] You in their mouth, And far off from their reins."

³¹ And they come in unto you as the coming in of a people, And they sit before you--My people, And have heard your words, and they do them not, For doting loves with their mouth they are making, After their dishonest gain their heart is going."

⁹ And calling is Yahweh Elohim to the human, and He is saying to him, "Adam! Where are you? ¹⁰ And saying is he to Him, "The sound of You walking hear I in the garden, and fearful am I, for naked am I, and I am hiding. ¹¹ And saying is He to him, "Did anyone tell you that you are naked? From the tree of which alone I instruct you to avoid eating, from it did you eat?

⁹ And saying is Yahweh Elohim to Cain, "Where is Abel, your brother? "And saying is he, "I do not know. The keeper of my brother am I?

⁸ And saying to her is the messenger of Yahweh, "Hagar, maid of Sarai, whence come you and whither are you going?And saying is she, "From the face of Sarai, my mistress, am I running away.

³ And coming is the Elohim to Abimelech in a dream in the night, and is saying to him, "Behold yourself dying on account of the woman whom you take, when she is possessed by a possessor.

²⁴ And coming is the Elohim to Laban, the Syrian, in a dream in the night. And saying is He to him, "Beware, you, lest you be speaking with Jacob from good unto evil!"

²⁵ And saying is Joseph to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh, one is it. What the Elohim will be doing He tells to Pharaoh.

² Now Yahweh said to him: What is this in your hand? And he answered: A rod.

²⁰ Elohim came to Balaam at night and said to him:Since the men have come to call for you, rise, go with them. Yet only the word that I speak to you, only it shall you use.

¹⁴ And Isaiah the prophet comes in unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, `What said these men? and whence come they unto you?' And Hezekiah said, `From a land afar off they have come--from Babylon.. ¹⁵ And he said, `What saw they in your house?' and Hezekiah said, `All that [is] in my house they saw; there has not been a thing that I have not showed them among my treasures..

⁴⁵ Forasmuch as you perceived that a stone severs itself from a mountain range, that is, not by hands, and it pulverizes the iron, the copper, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great Eloah makes known to the king what shall occur after this. Certain is the dream and faithful its interpretation."

³¹ While the matter is still in the mouth of the king, a voice falls from the heavens, "To you are they saying, King Nebuchadnezzar:The kingdom passes away from you." ³² From mortals are they shoving you, and with the animals of the field is your abode. Herbage will they feed to you, as oxen. Thus seven seasons shall pass on over you till you shall know that the Supreme is in authority in the kingdom of mortals and to whom He is willing He is giving it."

²² Many will be declaring to Me in that day, 'Lord! Lord! Was it not in Your name that we prophesy, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many powerful deeds?'"

²⁴ For roused shall be false christs and false prophets, and they shall be giving great signs and miracles, so as to deceive, if possible, even the chosen."

⁵¹ Now this he said, not from himself, but, being the chief priest of that year, he prophesies that Jesus was about to be dying for the sake of the nation,

² And make you will I into a great nation, and bless you will I and make your name great, and become must you a blessing.

¹⁶ By Myself I swear, averring is Yahweh, that, because you have done this thing and have not kept back your son, your only one, from Me, ¹⁷ that, blessing, yea, blessing you am I, and increasing, yea, increasing your seed am I as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the sea shore. And your seed shall tenant the gateway of its enemies, ¹⁸ and blessed, in your seed, shall be all the nations of the earth, inasmuch as you hearken to My voice.

³ Then Balaam said to Balak:Station yourself at your ascent offering and let me go. Perhaps Yahweh shall happen to meet me; then whatever word He shall show me I will tell you. So he went off to the ridge.

¹³ Balak said to him:Go, I pray, with me to another place from where you may see it. Only its outmost part shall you see; all of it you shall not see. Revile it for me from there. ¹⁴ So he took him to the field of the Watchmen, to the summit of the Pisgah ridge. He built seven altars and offered up a young bull and a ram on each altar. ¹⁵ Then he said to Balak:Station yourself thus at your ascent offering while I meet Him thus.

¹⁹ El is not a man that He should lie. Nor a son of humanity that He should feel regret. Does He say it and then not do it? Or speak and then not carry it out? ²⁰ Behold, I undertake to bless; He blesses and I shall not reverse it.

⁵ But Yahweh your Elohim would not hearken to Balaam. And Yahweh your Elohim turned the malediction into a blessing for you, for Yahweh your Elohim loves you.

²⁹ Happy are you, Israel! Who is like you? A people saved by Yahweh, the Shield of your Helper, Who is also the Sword of your augustness! Your enemies shall dissimulate submission to you, yet you, you shall tread on their fane heights.

¹⁵ In a dream, a vision of the night, When stupor falls upon men, In slumberings on their bed;" ¹⁶ Then He reveals matters to the ear of men, And He dismays them with admonitions, ¹⁷ To withdraw a human from his deed, And that He may obliterate pride in a master.

¹⁵ Happy is the people for whom it is thus; Happy is the people whose Elohim is Yahweh.

⁵ Happy is he who has the El of Jacob as his Help; His hopefulness is set on Yahweh his Elohim,

¹⁹ Now at his sitting on the dais, his wife dispatches to him, saying, "Let there be nothing between you and that just man, for I suffered much today in a trance because of him."

⁶ Even as David also is telling of the happiness of the man to whom God is reckoning righteousness apart from acts: ⁷ Happy they whose lawlessnesses were pardoned and whose sins were covered over!

²⁹ For unregretted are the graces and the calling of God.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who blesses us with every spiritual blessing among the celestials, in Christ,

¹⁴ So the chiefs of Moab rose and came to Balak and said:Balaam refused to go with us.

¹³ Balaam rose in the morning and said to the chiefs of Balak:Go back to your land, for Yahweh has refused to allow me to go with you.

³⁷ Then Balak said to Balaam:Did I not send, yea send to you to call for you? Why did you not come to me? Am I truly not able to glorify you?

⁷ The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with the pay for divinations in their hands. They came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. ⁸ He said to them:Lodge here for the night, and I will bring back word to you just as Yahweh shall speak to me. So the chiefs of Moab dwelt with Balaam.

⁷ Now as the messenger who is speaking to him came away, summoning two of the domestics and a devout soldier of those who waited on him, ⁸ and unfolding it all to them, he dispatches them to Joppa."

⁶ Now come, I pray, curse this people for me, for they are more substantial than I. Perhaps I shall prevail, so that we may smite them and I may drive them out from the land, for I know that whomever you bless is being blessed and whomever you curse is accursed.

² Balak did just as Balaam had spoken. Balak and Balaam offered up a young bull and a ram on each altar. ³ Then Balaam said to Balak:Station yourself at your ascent offering and let me go. Perhaps Yahweh shall happen to meet me; then whatever word He shall show me I will tell you. So he went off to the ridge.

²⁹ Then Balaam said to Balak:Build for me in this place seven altars, and prepare for me in this place seven young bulls and seven rams. ³⁰ Balak did just as Balaam had said and offered up a young bull and a ram on each altar.

¹¹ And now get yourself away to your place! I said I would glorify, yea glorify you. Yet behold, Yahweh has withheld you from glory.

⁹ You shall count off seven weeks for yourself. From the start of the scythe in the raised grain shall you start to count off seven weeks.

¹¹ Haman related to them the glory of his riches, his many sons and all about how the king had magnified him and how he had advanced him above all the king's chief officials and courtiers.

⁹ And Harbona, one of the eunuchs before the king, said:Moreover, behold, there is standing at Haman's house the lofty gallows of fifty cubits that Haman had prepared for Mordecai who had spoken to the good of the king. So the king commanded:Hang him on it!"

⁸ Again the Adversary takes Him along into a very high mountain, and is showing Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. ⁹ And he said to Him, "All these to you will I be giving, if ever, falling down, you should be worshiping me."

⁷ Whence, with an oath, he avows to give her whatsoever she should be requesting."

²⁶ For the Son of Mankind is about to be coming in the glory of His Father, with His messengers, and then He will be paying each in accord with his practice."

³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak:Behold, I have come to you now. Can I prevail to speak anything freely? The word that Elohim places in my mouth, it shall I speak.

²⁶ Balaam responded and said to Balak:Did not I speak to you, saying:All that Yahweh shall speak, it I shall do?

¹³ If Balak were giving to me the fullness of his house in silver and gold, I could not cross the bidding of Yahweh to do what is good or evil out of my own heart. Whatever Yahweh shall speak, it shall I speak.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, `Yahweh lives; surely that which Yahweh said unto me--it I speak..

¹³ And Micaiah said `Yahweh lives, surely that which my Elohim said, it I speak..

¹⁷ Then answering is Daniel and saying before the king, "Your gifts be to yourself, and your rewards grant to another! But the writing will I read to the king, and its interpretation will I make known to him."

²⁰ Yet Peter said to him, "May your silver be for destruction together with you, seeing that you infer that the gratuity of God is to be acquired by means of money!"

¹⁶ They are avowing an acquaintance with God, yet by their acts are denying it, being abominable and stubborn, and disqualified for every good act."

³ and in greed, with suave words, they will traffic in you, whose judgment of old is not idling, and their destruction is not nodding."

³⁵ The messenger of Yahweh said to Balaam:Go with the men, yet only the word which I speak to you may you speak to him. So Balaam went with the chiefs of Balak.

⁵ Yahweh placed a word in the mouth of Balaam and said:Return to Balak and thus shall you speak.

¹⁶ Yahweh met with Balaam and placed the word in his mouth and said:Return to Balak and thus shall you speak.

⁵ and say unto him, `Lo, you have become aged, and your sons have not walked in your ways; now, appoint to us a king, to judge us, like all the nations.. <sup>6</sup> And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they have said, `Give to us a king to judge us;' and Samuel prays unto Yahweh. ⁷ And Yahweh said unto Samuel, `Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto you, for you they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them. ⁸ According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other elohims--so they are doing also to you. ⁹ And now, hearken to their voice; only, surely you do certainly protest to them, and have declared to them the custom of the king who does reign over them..

¹² `And you see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon has come against you, and you say to me, Nay, but a king does reign over us; and Yahweh your Elohim [is] your king!" <sup>13</sup> And, now, lo, the king whom you have chosen--whom you have asked! and lo, Yahweh has placed over you a king. <sup>14</sup> `If you fear Yahweh, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then you do not provoke the mouth of Yahweh, and you have been--both you and the king who has reigned over you--after Yahweh your Elohim. ¹⁵ `And if you do not hearken to the voice of Yahweh--then you have provoked the mouth of Yahweh, and the hand of Yahweh has been against you, and against your fathers. <sup>16</sup> `Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Yahweh is doing before your eyes;" ¹⁷ is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Yahweh, and He does give voices and rain; and know you and see that your evil is great which you have done in the eyes of Yahweh, to ask for you a king.. ¹⁸ And Samuel calls unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gives voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Yahweh and Samuel;" ¹⁹ and all the people say unto Samuel, `Pray for your servants unto Yahweh your Elohim, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king..

¹⁰ Yahweh, He annuls the intrigue of the nations; He repudiates the devices of the peoples." ¹¹ The counsel of Yahweh shall stand for the eon, The designs of His heart for generation after generation."

³⁰ Yet they were not alienated from their yearning; Their food was still in their mouth, ³¹ When the anger of Elohim ascended against them; He killed the stoutest of them, And the choice ones of Israel He cut off."

¹² So I let them go in the obduracy of their own heart; They went in their own counsels.

²⁹ Because your perturbance against Me and your tumult ascends in My ears, so I will place My gaff in your nose, and My bit in your lips, and I will reverse you by the way in which you came."

² And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, ³ `Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them? <sup>4</sup> `Therefore, speak with them, and you have said unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Every one of the house of Israel who causes his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity sets over-against his face, and has gone in unto the prophet--I Yahweh have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols, ⁵ in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols--all of them."

¹¹ I am giving you a king in My anger, and I am taking him away in My rage."

⁹ whose presence is in accord with the operation of Satan, with all power and signs and false miracles" ¹⁰ and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation." ¹¹ And therefore God will be sending them an operation of deception, for them to believe the falsehood, ¹² that all may be judged who do not believe the truth, but delight in injustice."

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; Withhold your foot from their track." ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, And they hasten to shed blood."

¹⁵ And blessing them is he and saying, "The Elohim before Whom my forefathers, Abraham and Isaac, walked, the Elohim, my Shepherd from my youth till this day, ¹⁶ the Messenger, my Redeemer from all evil, bless these youths. And called on them shall be my name, and the name of my forefathers, Abraham and Isaac. And prolific shall they be, to make a vast increase within the land.

² Then the messenger of Yahweh appeared to him in a blaze of fire from the midst of a thornbush. So he stared, and behold, the thornbush was consuming with fire, yet the thornbush, it was not being devoured. ³ Hence Moses said: Let me withdraw, I pray, and discern this great sight, for what reason the thornbush is not being consumed. ⁴ When Yahweh saw that he withdrew to discern, Elohim called to him from the midst of the thornbush and said: Moses! Moses! So he answered: Behold me!" ⁵ Then he said: Do not come near hither! Ease your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing, this is ground of holiness. ⁶ And He said: I am the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac and the Elohim of Jacob. Now Moses concealed his face, for he feared to look toward the One, Elohim.

²⁴ It came to be on the way, in the lodging, that a messenger of Yahweh encountered him and sought to put him to death.

²⁰ Behold, I shall be sending a messenger before you to keep you in the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.

³² The messenger of Yahweh said to him:On what grounds did you smite your jenny these three times? Behold, I myself came forth as your adversary, for your way in front of me is precipitant.

²⁰ And Jehu said, `Sanctify a restraint for Baal;' and they proclaim [it].

⁴ He has positioned His bow like an enemy, setting His right hand like a foe; And He is killing all that is coveted by the eye in the tent of the daughter of Zion; He has poured out His fury like fire."

⁴ And Yahweh is saying to him, Call his name Jezreel, for still a little and I visit the blood of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and I cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease."

⁴ And he is controlling the Messenger, and is prevailing; he laments and is supplicating to Him. In Bethel He is finding him, and there He is speaking with him." ⁵ And Yahweh is Elohim of the hosts; Yahweh is His remembrance.

¹⁷ And Elisha prays, and said, `Yahweh, open, I pray You, his eyes, and he does see;' and Yahweh opens the eyes of the young man, and he sees, and lo, the hill is full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha.

¹⁶ and David lifts up his eyes, and sees the messenger of Yahweh standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, and David falls, and the elders, covered with sackcloth, on their faces.

⁷ Even a stork in the heavens has known her seasons, And turtle, and swallow, and crane, Have watched the time of their coming, And--My people have not known the judgment of Yahweh."

⁷ Yet I Daniel alone see this great sight-- the mortals who come to be with me do not see the sight, verily a great trembling falls on them and they are running away to hide-- yet I remain alone and am seeing this great sight."

⁹ Now those who are with me gaze, indeed, at the light, yet they hear not the voice of Him Who is speaking to me."

²⁷ but the stupidity of the world God chooses, that He may be disgracing the wise, and the weakness of the world God chooses, that He may be disgracing the strong, ²⁸ and the ignoble and the contemptible things of the world God chooses, and that which is not, that He may be discarding that which is, ²⁹ so that no flesh at all should be boasting in God's sight.

¹⁶ yet was exposed for his own outlawry. A voiceless yoke-beast, uttering with a human voice, forbids the insanity of the prophet."

¹³ Seizing the wise in their craftiness, So that their cunning counsel is carried headlong. ¹⁴ By day they encounter darkness, And as in the night, they grope at noon. ¹⁵ He saves the deserted from their mouth And the needy from the hand of the unyielding.

¹² Then stand, pray, by your magic charms, and by your many enchantments, with which you were acquainted from your youth until today. Perhaps you can benefit! Perhaps you will be staunch!"

¹¹ Yahweh, Your exalted hand they will fail to perceive. Yet they shall perceive and be shamed by the zeal of the disciplined people. Indeed, the fire of Your foes will devour them."

⁶ Wherefore, behold Me hedging her way with briars, and I dike her with a stone dike, and she will not find her tracks."

¹⁶ A wise man is fearing and withdrawing from evil, Yet the stupid one is congenial and trusting to it."

³ Heavy is stone, and weighty is sand, Yet vexation from a fool is heavier than them both." ⁴ Fury is cruel, and anger overwhelming, Yet who can stand before jealousy?

¹⁹ Now you are aware, my beloved brethren! Yet let every man be swift to hear, tardy to speak, tardy to anger,

¹¹ Yahweh said to him: Who make the mouth for a human or Who is making one mute or deaf or with eye unclosed or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?

³⁷ seeing that it will not be impossible with God to fulfill His every declaration."

²² For we are aware that the entire creation is groaning and travailing together until now.

¹⁹ For it is written, I shall be destroying the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the intelligent shall I be repudiating."

¹⁰ The just man knows the soul's need of even his domestic beast, Yet even the compassions of the wicked are cruel."

¹⁶ On the very day of disgrace a fool makes his vexation known, Yet a prudent man covers up an affront."

³ This is the evil in all that is done under the sun:That one destiny is for all; Moreover the heart of the sons of humanity is full of evil, And ravings are in their heart throughout their life, Yet after it, they are joined to the dead."

¹⁹ For out of the heart are coming wicked reasonings, murders, adulteries, prostitutions, thefts, false testimonies, calumnies."

¹⁹ And unclosing is the Elohim her eyes, and seeing is she a well of living water, and is going and filling the flask with water, and giving the lad a drink.

⁸ Then Moses hastened, bowed his head toward the earth, bowed himself down,

⁴ the averring of the one hearing the sayings of El, Who is perceiving a vision from Him Who-Suffices, falling prostrate, yet his eyes are revealed.

²⁰ Do set fear before them, O Yahweh; Let the nations know they are mortal. {Interlude{ "

¹⁶ Yet their eyes were held so as not to recognize Him.

³¹ Now their eyes were opened up, and they recognize Him. And He became unapparent to them."

⁶ As, then, He said to them, "I am He,they drop behind and fall on the ground."

¹⁸ to open their eyes, to turn them about from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God, for them to get a pardon of sins and an allotment among those who have been hallowed by faith that is in Me.'"

²² Elohim's anger grew hot because he was going. So a messenger of Yahweh stationed himself in the road to be adverse to him. Now he was riding on his jenny, and his two lads were with him.

²⁸ Then Yahweh opened the mouth of the jenny, and she said to Balaam:What have I done to you that you have smitten me these three times?

⁴ You shall not muzzle a bull when it threshes.

⁶ Your righteousness is like the mountain ranges of El, Your judgment like the vast abyss:Both human and beast You save, O Yahweh."

⁹ Yahweh is good to all, And His compassions are over all His works."

⁹ Giving its nourishment to the beasts, To the raven's young when they should call."

² He who walks in uprightness fears Yahweh, Yet he who deviates in his ways despises Him."

⁶ Better is a destitute man who walks in his integrity Than one whose ways are perverse, though he be rich."

¹⁸ He who walks flawlessly shall be kept in safety, Yet he whose ways are perverse shall fall into a pit."

¹¹ And I, shall I not commiserate over Nineveh, the great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand human beings who do not know their right from their left, and many beasts?

¹⁰ said, "O, full of all guile and all knavery, son of the Adversary, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

¹⁴ having the distended eyes of an adulteress, and that do not stop from sin, luring unstable souls, having a heart exercised by greed, children of a curse." ¹⁵ Leaving the straight path, they were led astray, following out the path of Balaam of Beor, who loves the wages of injustice,

³⁷ those men who were bringing forth evil mutterings of the land died by a stroke before Yahweh.

³³ So they descended, they and all who belonged to them, alive to the unseen; and the earth covered over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. ³⁴ Yet all Israel who were around them fled at their voice, for they said:Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ Then fire came forth from Yahweh and devoured the two hundred fifty men who were bringing near the incense.

²⁴ and he goes, and a lion finds him in the way, and puts him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase. ²⁵ And lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak [of it] in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling. ²⁶ And the prophet who brought him back out of the way hears and said, `It [is] the man of Elohim who provoked the mouth of Yahweh, and Yahweh gives him to the lion, and it destroys him, and puts him to death, according to the word of Yahweh that he spoke to him.. <sup>27</sup> And he speaks unto his sons saying, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle [it]. ²⁸ And he goes and finds his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion are standing near the carcase--the lion has not eaten the carcase nor destroyed the ass.

²⁷ Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and for Aaron and said to them: I have sinned this time. Yahweh is the righteous One, and I and my people are the wicked.

¹⁶ Now Pharaoh hastened to call for Moses and for Aaron and said: I have sinned against Yahweh your Elohim and against you. ¹⁷ And now, I pray, bear with my sin only this time, and make an entreaty to Yahweh your Elohim that he may take away from over me but this death!"

¹ The people became like complainers, evil in the ears of Yahweh. Yahweh hearkened and His anger grew hot, and the fire of Yahweh consumed some among them and devoured the outmost part of the camp.

⁴⁰ They rose early in the morning and went up to the summit of the hill-country, saying:Behold us, now we will go up to the place of which Yahweh spoke, for we have sinned.

²⁴ And Saul said unto Samuel, `I have sinned, for I passed over the command of Yahweh, and your words; because I have feared the people, I also hearken to their voice;"

³⁰ And he said, `I have sinned; now, honor me, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me; and I have bowed myself to Yahweh your Elohim..

¹⁷ And he said unto David, `More righteous you [are] than I; for you have done me good, and I have done you evil;"

²¹ And Saul said, `I have sinned; turn back, my son David, for I do evil to you no more, because that my soul has been precious in your eyes this day; lo, I have acted foolishly, and do err very greatly..

¹³ And David said unto Nathan, `I have sinned against Yahweh.' And Nathan said unto David, `Also--Yahweh has caused your sin to pass away; you do not die;"

⁷ And it is evil in the eyes of Elohim concerning this thing, and He smites Israel,

³¹ Indeed has one said to El, I have been lured away; I shall not harm any more;" ³² Until I can perceive, direct me Yourself; If I have contrived iniquity, I shall not do so again?

³⁴ Whenever He killed them, then they sought after Him, And they returned and sought early for El."

¹⁸ Lest Yahweh should see and it be evil in His eyes, So that He turns away His anger from him."

⁴ saying, "I sinned in giving up innocent blood.Yet they said, "What is it to us? You should be seeing to that!" ⁵ And, tossing the silver pieces into the temple, he retires, and, coming away, strangles himself."

²⁰ Elohim came to Balaam at night and said to him:Since the men have come to call for you, rise, go with them. Yet only the word that I speak to you, only it shall you use. ²¹ Balaam rose in the morning and saddled his jenny and went with the chiefs of Moab.

²⁶ Have you not heard from afar that it was made by Me? From days aforetime also, I formed it. Now will I bring it, and coming are you to cause tumult, to besieged mounds, defended cities." ²⁷ And their dwellers are shorthanded; they are dismayed and ashamed. They become herbage of the field and green verdure, grass of the housetops, and blasted before raised." ²⁸ Your rising and your sitting and your faring forth and your coming in I know, and your perturbance against Me." ²⁹ Because your perturbance against Me and your tumult ascends in My ears, so I will place My gaff in your nose, and My bit in your lips, and I will reverse you by the way in which you came."

¹⁷ And forth is faring the king of Sodom to meet him, after his return from smiting Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at the vale Shaveh (It is now the vale of the king).

² And lifting is he his eyes and seeing, and behold! Three mortals are stationed by him. And seeing is he and running to meet them from the opening of the tent, and is prostrating to the earth.

²⁹ And hitching up is Joseph his chariot and is going up to Goshen to meet Israel, his father, and is appearing to him. And falling is he on his neck. And weeping is he longer on his neck.

⁷ Then Moses went forth to meet his father-in-law; and he bowed himself down and kissed him. After they had asked, each man of his associate, concerning his welfare, then they came to the tent,

¹³ From there they journeyed and encamped across the Arnon, which is in the wilderness going forth from the boundary of the Amorite, (for the Arnon is the boundary of Moab between Moab and the Amorite. ¹⁴ Therefore it is said in the Scroll of the Wars of Yahweh:The gushing river at the terminus! And the watercourses of Arnon!

²⁴ Arise, journey, and cross over the watercourse of Arnon. See! I will give into your hand Sihon king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his country. Start out to tenant it, and struggle with him in battle.

¹⁸ and he goes through the wilderness, and compasses the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and comes in at the rising of the sun of the land of Moab, and they encamp beyond Arnon, and have not come into the border of Moab, for Arnon [is] the border of Moab.

¹⁰ And it comes to pass at his completing to cause the burnt-offering to ascend, that lo, Samuel has come, and Saul goes out to meet him, to bless him;"

² And it comes, as a flitting flyer being sent from the nest, so the daughters of Moab are becoming at the crossings of Arnon."

²⁰ Put to shame has been Moab, For it has been broken down, Howl and cry, declare you in Arnon, For spoiled is Moab,

¹⁵ And thence the brethren, hearing about us, come to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Three Taverns, perceiving whom, Paul, thanking God, took courage."

¹⁶ They came to Balaam and said to him:Thus says Balak son of Zippor, Do not, I pray, be withheld from coming to me, ¹⁷ for I shall glorify, yea glorify you exceedingly, and all that you may say to me I shall do. So come now I pray, revile this people for me.

⁶ For no one from the sun's coming forth or from the west, And no one from the wilderness can exalt a man;"

⁶ And the Adversary said to Him, "To you shall I be giving all this authority and the glory of them, for it has been given up to me, and to whomsoever I may will, I am giving it."

⁴⁴ How can you believe, getting glory from one another, and are not seeking the glory which is from God alone?

¹⁸ Yet Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak:If Balak were giving to me the fullness of his house in silver and gold I could not cross the bidding of Yahweh my Elohim to do what is small or great.

¹⁰ Yahweh, He annuls the intrigue of the nations; He repudiates the devices of the peoples."

¹⁰ For the fury of humanity, it is acclaiming You; The remainder of the fury shall celebrate to You."

²¹ Many are the designs in a man's heart, Yet the counsel of Yahweh, it shall stand firm."

²⁵ Annulling the signs of the inventors of deception, and making the diviners bluster, causing the wise to return backward, and making their knowledge silly,

¹⁰ Telling from the beginning, the hereafter, and from aforetime, what has not yet been done. Saying, `All My counsel shall be confirmed, and all My desire will I do.'"

⁵⁴ And sacrificing is Jacob a sacrifice in the mountain. And calling is he his brethren to eat bread. And eating are they bread and lodging in the mountain.
