⁵ Now in the law, Moses directs us that such are to be stoned. You, then, what are you saying?

¹⁰ As for a man who commits adultery with another man's wife--one who commits adultery with his associate's wife--the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death, yea death.

²¹ then they will bring forth the maiden to the portal of her father's house, and the men of her city will stone her with stones so that she dies, for she committed decadence in Israel so as to prostitute herself while in her father's house. Thus you will eradicate the evil from among you. ²² In case a man should be found lying with a woman possessed by a possessor, then they must die, indeed both of them, the man who was lying with the woman and the woman. Thus you will eradicate the evil from Israel. ²³ In case there should be a maiden, a virgin, who is betrothed to a man, and another man finds her in the city, and he lies with her, ²⁴ then you must bring forth both of them to the gate of that city and stone them with stones so that they die, the maiden on the score that she did not cry for help in the city, and the man on the score that he humiliated the wife of his associate. Thus you will eradicate the evil from among you.

³⁸ And I have judged you--judgments of adulteresses, And of women shedding blood, And have given you blood, fury, and jealousy." ³⁹ And I have given you into their hand, And they have thrown down your arch, And they have broken down your high places, And they have stript you of your garments, And they have taken your beauteous vessels, And they have left you naked and bare." ⁴⁰ And have caused an assembly to come up against you, And stoned you with stones, And thrust you through with their swords,

⁴⁷ And they have cast at them the stone of the assembly, And cut them with their swords, Their sons and their daughters they do slay, And their houses with fire they burn."

¹⁷ You should not infer that I came to demolish the law or the prophets. I came not to demolish, but to fulfill.

⁶ So that no longer are they two, but one flesh. What God, then, yokes together, let not man be separating." ⁷ They are saying to Him, "Why, then, does Moses direct to give a scroll of divorce and to dismiss her? ⁸ Jesus is saying to them, that "Moses, in view of your hardheartedness, permits you to dismiss your wives. Yet from the beginning it has not come to be thus."

¹⁶ And they are dispatching to Him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we are aware that you are true, and are teaching the way of God in truth, and you are not caring concerning anyone, for you are not looking at the face of men." ¹⁷ Tell us, then, what you are supposing. Is it allowed to give poll tax to Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ Now Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why are you trying Me, hypocrites?
